Tottenham confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth on Saturday and the striker has already been welcomed to the club by some of his new teammates.

The 26-year-old has joined Spurs as part of a £65m deal which will see the North London club pay the Cherries an initial £55m with £10m in add-ons for their goal scorer. Solanke has signed a six-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030 as Ange Postecoglou hopes the Englishman provides him with the goals he has been looking for.

Following the announcement of Solanke, Tottenham put out some behind-the-scenes footage and there was a lovely moment showing James Maddison welcoming the striker to Spurs.

Once the midfielder left the room, the North London club’s new signing labelled the England star a “top guy”, with fans of the club likely to love the comradery already between the pair.

Marc Guehi has done little to reassure Crystal Palace fans that he will remain at the club beyond this summer.

Guehi has impressed during his three-year, 111-game spell with Palace since joining from Chelsea, subsequently breaking into the England squad.

The 24-year-old played a key role in the Three Lions’ run to the final of Euro 2024 this summer, eventually losing 2-1 to Spain in the final in Berlin.

However, Guehi’s form has not gone unnoticed and he is now being heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United, while Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea are already being rumoured as possible replacements.

Of course, Eagles supporters would much rather keep hold of Guehi, who has become a very popular figure at Selhurst Park and has worn the captain’s armband on numerous occasions in recent years.

In a clip circulating on social media, however, one Palace fan asked Guehi if he is staying at the club, to which the centre-back merely looked back and struggled his shoulders.

While that doesn’t necessarily mean he is leaving and could simply be down to the player simply being unsure how to react to the question, Guehi’s refusal to state that he is staying put will undoubtedly put Palace supporters on edge.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle currently have a £50m offer at the table for Guehi, who is valued at £65m by Crystal Palace, with the London club holding out for their asking price at present.

Crystal Palace are considering Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah as possible replacements should they sell Marc Guehi this summer, according to reports.

A product of the Chelsea youth system, Guehi has impressed during his three-year, 111-game spell with Palace, subsequently breaking into the England squad.

Guehi played a key role in the Three Lions’ run to the final of Euro 2024 this summer, eventually losing 2-1 to Spain in the final in Berlin.

However, the 24-year-old’s form has not gone unnoticed and according to Fabrizio Romano, Palace are now having to line up replacements as Newcastle United circle for Guehi.

Palace lining up Marc Guehi replacements

According to Romano, Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah are top of Palace’s shortlist of centre-backs to sign should Guehi depart.

The Eagles are thought to face competition from abroad for Chalobah.

“On Trevoh Chalobah’s situation, Crystal Palace are interested but it’s the same with clubs from abroad. Chalobah will take his time to decide what will be the best opportunity for him,” Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing (via Give Me Sport).

“What I’m told too is that Crystal Palace also have Lacroix on their shortlist, a player that’s really appreciated by Glasner. So, a decision will be made once Marc Guehi’s future is clarified as talks with Newcastle are still ongoing, not done yet.”

Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly emerging as a leading contender to be the next England manager and is open to the job of replacing Gareth Southgate.

Pochettino has long been regarded as one of the top coaches in the game, though he endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge last season before the Blues decided to replace him with Enzo Maresca this summer.

Still, one imagines it won’t be long before the Argentine is back in work, with iNews claiming that he’s now looking increasingly like one of the main options to take over from Southgate, who recently stepped down from the job with England.

Southgate did a great job with the Three Lions in his time in charge, leading the country to two Euros finals, as well as the semi-finals of the World Cup, though the challenge now is surely for the team to finally win a trophy.

Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager after Euro 2024

While England have improved a lot from the under-achievement that came before Southgate, there’s also a sense that this golden generation with world class talents like Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham has not quite achieved what it could have.

Pochettino could be ideal to help the country move forward, so it will be interesting to see if the Football Association makes progress on this potential appointment soon.

Lee Carsley is expected to be appointed on an interim basis, according to iNews, while other candidates like Jurgen Klopp and Eddie Howe have ruled themselves out of the job.

Man United could still make a late-window approach for Brentford striker Ivan Toney with the England star’s future yet to be decided ahead of the new Premier League season.

There was a lot of talk about the striker’s future heading into the summer transfer window as the 28-year-old has just one year left on his Brentford contract and the Bees will not want to lose their star man for free next year.

The London club are seeking £50m to part ways with Toney over the next month but so far, no club in the Premier League has been willing to match that price tag.

The talk around the Englishman’s future has gone very quiet, however, Football Insider are now reporting that Man United could make a late move for the 28-year-old as Erik ten Hag wants another number nine at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund suffered an injury during the Manchester club’s pre-season tour of the United States, which will rule the Danish star out of action until mid-September.

New forward signing Joshua Zirkzee is also unavailable due to a lack of match fitness and that means that the Red Devils head into Saturday’s FA Community Shield clash against Man City without a recognised striker.

Despite this, a move for Toney makes no sense having signed the Dutch forward, and only time will tell if Man United make a move for the Brentford star.

Man United could still make a late-window approach for Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Man United could still make a late-window approach for Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney to Man United makes no sense

Before the summer, a move for Toney would have been a great signing for Man United as the England star is a lethal goal scorer and is proven in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has netted 72 times and assisted a further 23 across 141 games for Brentford in the Premier League and Championship in recent seasons, and it is not hard to see why the Manchester club would want the Englishman.

The Red Devils splashed out £36.5m to sign Zirkzee from Bologna this summer, therefore, it makes no sense to spend more money on a new striker when other areas of the pitch need addressing.

Man United should save their money and try to get a deal for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte over the line as Ten Hag cannot go another season with Casemiro in his midfield following his disastrous campaign last time around.

Conor Gallagher’s Chelsea exit is getting closer with the midfielder agreeing to depart Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid, however, the London club have made a key decision related to the transfer.

The Premier League club will receive €40m for the England star, who they were desperate to sell this summer as the player had just one year remaining on his current contract. The sale will also be a big boost to the Blues’ profit and sustainability situation as the money will go down as pure profit.

Gallagher is set to sign a five-year contract with the La Liga club having accepted the move over the weekend. There was also interest in the Chelsea star from the Premier League but the 24-year-old opted for a new challenge abroad.

With the midfielder’s move nearly complete, Chelsea have made a key decision regarding his replacement.

According to Football Insider, the West London outfit are highly unlikely to replace Gallagher at Stamford Bridge as they believe that they are already well covered in the position, despite the crucial role the Englishman had under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

Who will replace Conor Gallagher at Chelsea?

Gallagher started 37 out of a possible 38 Premier League games during the 2023/24 campaign for Chelsea and made 50 appearances in total, notching seven goals and nine assists. That is a player that needs replacing and there are two main options.

The Blues signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City this summer and having already worked with new manager Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, the 25-year-old is the obvious choice.

However, the London club essentially have another new signing in Romeo Lavia, who joined the Premier League team last summer from Southampton but played just 32 minutes having seen his season plagued by injuries.

The Belgian star will have a point to prove and could be set for a big campaign at Stamford Bridge.

In the end, the Blues’ decision not to replace Gallagher could be a smart one as it will allow the Premier League giants to spend the money on strengthening other areas of Maresca’s squad that don’t have a lot of depth, such as a new striker.

In what surely has to be one of the more bizarre potential sightings of a famous person, someone closely resembling Wayne Rooney was caught on live TV at the riots and disruption taking place in Plymouth City Centre.

The former Man United and England international is manager of local side, Plymouth Argyle, so armchair super sleuths may have thought that they were onto something.

However, other social media posts which show a clearer picture seem to confirm that it isn’t Rooney, but a doppelganger.

England’s defeat to Spain in the final of this year’s EUROs sealed Gareth Southgate’s fate.

Although the 53-year-old was not sacked from his role as head coach of the men’s national team, his position became untenable in the aftermath of the 2-1 defeat to Spain.

Overseeing back-to-back EURO final defeats, Southgate was left with no choice but to resign, leaving the FA forced to find the former defender’s long-term successor.

And while a candidate has not yet been named, according to a recent report from The Guardian, CEO Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott, are working toward drawing up a shortlist of candidates with hopes of conducting interviews.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is considered a leading candidate with former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter also among the FA’s options.

Two foreign managers under consideration for England job

However, there are two foreign managers also in contention to succeed Southgate.

Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are both available after departing Chelsea and Bayern Munich, respectively, at the end of last season. The pair are viewed as ‘leading overseas candidates’ with the FA refusing to rule out the possibility of a foreign manager taking charge — something fans have not seen since Italian Fabio Capello was appointed manager in 2008.

Tuchel and Pochettino in line to take England job
Thomas Tuchel (left) and Mauricio Pochettino (right) are candidates for the vacant England job.

The biggest obstacle facing the FA when it comes to capture either Pochettino or Tuchel is the pair’s salary demands. Southgate earned £5 million-per year while serving as England manager — a figure the aforementioned candidates are likely to want increasing.

England’s next match is one month away in the Nations League against Ireland. A permanent manager is unlikely to be in place by then sparking speculation that under-21 manager Lee Carsley will be asked to take charge on an interim basis.

Man City’s Jack Grealish wants to remain with the Premier League champions for the 2024/25 campaign but could look to leave the Manchester club in January if he doesn’t receive the minutes he is looking for.

The England international’s time at the Etihad Stadium has been up and down since joining from Aston Villa in 2021 as part of a £100m deal, with last season being the lowest point of his time in Manchester.

The winger featured in only 20 Premier League matches for Man City, 10 of which were starts, as the 28-year-old fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola following the signing of Jeremy Doku.

When he did play, Grealish was underwhelming and the England international received a big blow this summer when he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

Man City fans hope this will kick the former Aston Villa star into gear ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and the Etihad faithful would love to see the winger replicate his displays shown during the 2022/23 season as the Englishman played a big role in the Manchester club winning the Treble.

Jack Grealish could look to leave Man City in January

With many of Man City’s big players missing the Manchester club’s pre-season preparations so far due to international commitments this summer, this has allowed Grealish time to impress Guardiola ahead of the Premier League champions’ FA Community Shield clash with Man United this weekend.

The England international is said to be determined to fight for his place at Man City ahead of the new season and Football Insider report that the 28-year-old is happy to stay at the Etihad.

However, if the winger doesn’t receive the minutes he wants from Guardiola during the first half of the campaign, the report states that Grealish could look to move on from City during the January transfer window.

The player’s future is in his own hands and following his displays last season, Grealish needs a positive start to the new campaign in order to impress Guardiola.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted ‘nothing changes’ for Jude Bellingham following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

A move long in the making, Mbappe finally left Paris Saint-Germain for Los Blancos this summer at the end of his contract.

Bellingham was the catalyst for Madrid last season, notching an incredible 23 goals and 13 assists across all competitions to help the club lift La Liga, Champions League and Supercopa titles.

The 21-year-old primarily played as an attacking midfielder during his Birmingham City and Borussia Dortmund days. However, he often played in a more advanced role during 2023/24, even occupying the No.9 spot on numerous occasions.

Mbappe’s arrival leaves Ancelotti with a headache when it comes to fitting the Frenchman into the team alongside Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Bellingham and fellow new signing Endryk.

For Bellingham, at least, Ancelotti insists it’ll be business as usual.

“Nothing changes for him. Nothing changes,” he said (via BBC Sport). “The first season, he surprised a lot, because he showed fantastic quality, a really mature guy.

“The next season will not be different. He is going to be one of the best players that we have, supporting a lot the team with his quality.”

Ancelotti praises Bellingham and England’s Euro 2024 showing

Jude Bellingham pictured celebrating after scoring in England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia

Bellingham scored twice to help England reach the final of Euro 2024 this summer, eventually losing 2-1 to Spain.

His most famous moment was undoubtedly the overhead kick equaliser in the final moments of their round-of-16 tie against Slovakia, sending the game into extra-time, where Harry Kane scored the winner.

However, Bellingham, Gareth Southgate and the England team as a whole came under heavy criticism throughout the tournament from fans and pundits for some poor performances, struggling through games despite boasting immense attacking talent.

But Ancelotti has a very different view, crediting both Bellingham and England for their showing in Germany.

“This is an opinion but Bellingham played really well at the Euros,” said Ancelotti, when asked about criticism of the England midfielder following some of his performances at the European Championship.

“England played really well, they reached the final and were close to winning it.”
