Former Arsenal and Man Utd forward Alexis Sanchez returned to Italian side Udinese after 13 years away from the club.

Now 35 years old, Sanchez played 33 times across all competitions for Inter last season, scoring four times and helping the club win the Serie A title, before departing at the end of his contract.

That came after a successful year in France with Marseille — who he joined from Inter for one season — scoring 18 times in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Sanchez last played for Udinese between 2006 and 2011, scoring 21 goals in 112 games across all competitions, and rejoins the club on a two-year deal. Udinese won just six of their 38 Serie A games last season, but picked up 19 draws to help them finish 15th on 37 points, two points clear of relegation.

A 166-time Chile international, Sanchez left Udinese in 2011 for Barcelona and won multiple honours with the Blaugrana — including the 2012/13 La Liga title — during a 141-game, 47-goal spell before joining Arsenal in 2014.

At the Emirates, Sanchez would score 80 goals in 166 appearances, winning two FA Cups and a Community Shield, before leaving for a more modest spell at Manchester United between January 2018 and the summer of 2019.

Sanchez is Udinese’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, alongside Lorenzo Lucca, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Damian Pizarro, Jesper Karlstrom, Iker Bravo and Goncalo Esteves.

Samu Omorodion to Chelsea and what it could mean for Marc Guiu

We can now confirm it’s ‘here we go’ for three important deals, with Julian Alvarez set to sign for Atletico Madrid from Manchester City, in what is a record sale for them, while the deal was only made possible as Samu Omorodion is now set to leave Atletico to sign for Chelsea.

Omorodion will become a new Chelsea player – the verbal agreement is done and we’re just waiting for the formal steps. Atletico Madrid will receive £35.4m, and although earlier in the summer they rejected a bid for Omorodion and wanted to keep the player, their stance changed when they saw the opportunity to sign a fantastic striker like Julian Alvarez.

But again, Conor Gallagher was also an important part of the domino. It was technically a separate deal, but it was part of the discussion. Gallagher was always the top target in midfield for Atletico and for Diego Simeone, and last night he flew from London to Madrid to become a new Atletico player in a €42m deal.

It’s an important sale for Chelsea because of Financial Fair Play, and also because they didn’t have any agreement with Gallagher over a new contract, so they were scared about the possibility of losing the player on a free transfer next summer.

So, Atletico are signing Alvarez and Gallagher, and Omorodion to Chelsea is also done, with this crazy domino finally coming to a conclusion. There was big tension on Tuesday, the deal looked in danger, but now everything is verbally agreed and just waiting to sign the contracts.

As for Omorodion’s medical, for now he is at the Olympics, so everything is being planned taking into consideration that he has an Olympic final to play. In terms of how this deal impacts other strikers, there is no news on Victor Osimhen yet, while on Marc Guiu we can confirm that a loan move is a possibility being assessed internally – Enzo Maresca will also have a say on this.

Dani Olmo to Barcelona ‘here we go’ but Nico Williams still a target

Another major deal is the ‘here we go’ for Dani Olmo to Barcelona. An agreement has been reached with RB Leipzig for a deal worth €55m, €7m in difficult add-ons, for example if Barca win the Champions League in the next six years. But for sure the deal is done and Olmo has been in Barcelona to have his medical.

So, Olmo to Barca is a done deal and it’s their first signing of the summer. They may not be done yet though as they are still thinking of Joao Cancelo, they’re just waiting to understand how they can make it happen with Financial Fair Play. It’s still at the early stages, but Cancelo is hoping to join Barca and waiting for Barca.

It’s not close yet, but the contacts are still active as we wait to see if Barcelona and Manchester City can find an agreement, or if Cancelo will join another club, because the plan remains for Cancelo to leave Manchester City.

We also know Barcelona wanted Nico Williams, so is this saga over yet? It will officially be over when Williams will officially announce his decision. For sure he’s now back at Athletic in a fantastic mood, while Athletic remain relaxed and convinced that he’s going to end up staying. But it’s also the case that Barcelona are still attentive to the situation and keep calling Williams’ agent on daily basis.

Liverpool optimistic over Martin Zubimendi transfer

A big story from yesterday is on the future of Martin Zubimendi – Liverpool are on it, Liverpool are working on a deal to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder. His release clause is €60m, so it’s an expensive deal, but Liverpool want to go very big on this one – they feel they can reach an agreement with Sociedad or trigger the clause, so they’re very optimistic.

Liverpool are now working on the player side, because many clubs tried to convince Zubimendi in the last couple of years – Barca, Bayern, Arsenal, many clubs spoke to the player, he wasn’t keen on the move, but now Liverpool are going very big. They are using the ability of their directors to convince the player, present the contract proposal, and find a way to get the deal done.

Contacts are ongoing with both player and club. Liverpool want Zubimendi and they are confident, optimistic to make it happen while there are still steps to follow on this story to get it done. It’s important also to clarify that Arsenal were never negotiating for Zubimendi this summer, while I’ve never heard anything concrete about Man United so far.

Let me say that this would be a fantastic signing, as Zubimendi is a special midfielder, his footballing brain is different, in the top, top category. He might not be as well known around Europe as some other bigger names, but we’ve seen his quality in the Champions League and also with the Spanish national team – what he’s doing on a regular basis is fantastic.

That’s not all for Liverpool, as I expect them to be busy on the market in August. So for now their focus is on Zubimendi, but there could be more names coming in soon for Liverpool.

Latest on ins and outs at Manchester United

Manchester United are still working and keeping contacts active for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. Despite the links with Denzel Dumfries, their top target at right-back is Mazraoui because he’s a player who can also fill in on the left-hand side, and because he’s well known by Erik ten Hag.

However, one crucial detail is that Man United are still waiting for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave the club. This is the stumbling block at the moment, with United waiting patiently for the player to give the green light to West Ham, or to maybe find another solution.

Still, United’s focus is on De Ligt and Mazraoui, and both players also have the intention to wait for United. Ten Hag hopes to have both players as soon as possible because the start of the Premier League season is getting closer now, so it’s going to be an important ten days or so as both these players wait to get the chance to move to Old Trafford.

Remember as well that Bayern have an agreement to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, so they can close that deal once they make sales first, so they’re just waiting to be able to offload De Ligt and Mazraoui.

Finally on United – Fulham had two bids rejected for Scott McTominay and now it’s gone quiet. Man United always asked for £30m so there’s a big difference in valuation. There’s no agreement now and it looks quiet, but before saying it’s over we have to wait and see what Fulham decide to do. McTominay remains available on the market for a fee of around £30m.

Arsenal and Marseille back in contact over Eddie Nketiah transfer deal

A lot continues to be written about the Eddie Nketiah and Marseille situation, so I thought I’d once again clarify my understanding of this saga here.

From what I know, Arsenal are open to re-discussing terms with Marseille after initially rejecting a €27m bid and asking for €35m, plus a sell-on clause. Now they can be open to discuss and negotiate different structure.

The precise asking price is not something clear yet but the two clubs have been in touch again and Arsenal can be open to discuss terms with OM. Nketiah had already agreed on personal terms, so no issue there, and it’s now on the clubs to reach an agreement.

Milan Skriniar available as PSG close in on Willian Pacho

Willian Pacho to PSG is getting closer, with the Eintracht Frankfurt defender flying to Paris for a medical to finalise a deal worth €40m plus €5m in add-ons. But what does this signing mean for PSG’s other defenders?

Milan Skriniar has always been available on the market but there are currently no bids or talks taking place for him, it’s quiet. In any case, a left-footed centre-back was needed as Lucas Hernandez is injured and Presnel Kimpembe is returning after a long injury, so PSG believe Pacho is an excellent talent and with big potential.

Julian Alvarez transfer nearly done and how Man City could replace him

We’ve had significant developments on a few major deals in a crazy domino around Europe and the first of those is the ‘here we go’ for Julian Alvarez to move from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid. It’s a record sale for Man City – a €75m guaranteed fee plus €20m in add-ons.

So that could be a potential €95m sale for a player Man City signed for just £14m a couple of years ago – an incredible piece of business for the Premier League champions. Of course it’s also an exciting signing for Atletico Madrid, who are landing a top talent up front, so it’s fantastic for both clubs.

It will be completed soon, with Alvarez set to sign a five-year contract. Alvarez has also spoken already with Diego Simeone, who has been really keen to push this move through.

Man City will now look at options to replace Alvarez, for sure. It could be a striker, but I would not be surprised if they end up considering also wingers and maybe playing with a false nine when Erling Haaland will not be available. Talks are taking place internally to decide on the next move, so we will have to wait and see the outcome of those discussions.

Latest on Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion deals

Another big name on his way to Atletico Madrid is Conor Gallagher. The Chelsea midfielder said yes to the La Liga giants after a complicated saga that took some time – he’s now agreed to the contract terms and will fly for his medical. The verbal agreement is in place, but all still waiting to get all signed in order to feel finally safe on this saga, it’s almost ten days now.

Chelsea will make a guaranteed €40m from the sale of Gallagher, so it’s a good sale for them, especially as they preferred to sell him abroad even though he also had interest from Premier League clubs. Tottenham wanted him for next summer as a free agent, but no formal bid was sent to Chelsea this summer.

Of course, Samu Omorodion to Chelsea has also been part of these discussions, though it’s a separate deal. There was interest from Chelsea earlier in the summer, but Atletico said no as they didn’t want to sell the player, while he was also very happy with Atletico.

However, with the Alvarez deal on top of the recent move for Alexander Sorloth, there is no more room for Omorodion, so it’s now all set for him to join Chelsea. The agreement is done with the player on a contract valid for the next seven years, while the clubs have also agreed on a fee of €35m.

So, Omorodion has accepted the move and will have his medical soon, and it’s one more striker for Enzo Maresca. In the end, the Alvarez deal was a crucial part of the domino, even though Omorodion was happy to stay at Atletico, and now he’s getting closer to Chelsea, with some final details to clarify.

Now Chelsea will have to decide what they want to do with Marc Guiu, who they signed from Barcelona earlier in the window, as they could keep him in their squad or possibly send him out on loan. David Datro Fofana and Armando Broja could also leave, and the priority for Chelsea is for a permanent transfer for both players, or it could be a loan with an obligation to buy.

Joao Felix to Aston Villa could still be one to watch

Joao Felix’s future remains undecided and there were some reports that he could be part of the Julian Alvarez deal, though my understanding was that Manchester City were always likely to sell Alvarez without any other player being involved. Felix was never a target for Man City, they have different ideas – they respect him as a player of course, but they have different plans for this window.

With Felix, keep an eye on Aston Villa because the appreciation from Villa Park is still there – Unai Emery really loves Felix as a player. It’s still not decided where Felix will go next, it’s not being decided now, but I wanted to clarify that he was not part of the Alvarez negotiations.

So, the Felix story is not closed yet, and at the moment Atletico are obviously busy with other deals, so we’ll see again in the next few days if the Felix situation will be discussed and what it could mean for his future. Villa are still there, but it’s not time for a breakthrough in this deal just yet.

Jadon Sancho could still leave Man Utd plus truth about those Denzel Dumfries links

There is still a possibility for Jadon Sancho to leave Manchester United in this transfer window – we have to keep the door open for that, but at the moment it’s still not advancing to important stages of negotiations. It’s true that Paris Saint-Germain have an interest and that they have spoken with the agents of the player.

However, there have been reports that PSG are closing in on the player and that’s not correct as far as I understand. He’s on their list, it’s a possibility, but we’re not yet at that stage of the negotiation. Sancho to PSG could be one to watch, but it’s not decided yet, and we’ll have to see as well what Manchester United want to do with the player, because the decision of the club, of INEOS, and of Erik ten Hag will be important to decide the next steps of this story.

Another United story that has gained a lot of attention in recent hours is with Denzel Dumfries. At the moment, I’m still told that Man United’s focus remains on Noussair Mazraoui as their priority target. There’s still no agreement with Bayern but the player is also waiting for United, so the right-back story remains with full focus on Mazraoui.

Dumfries will not sign a new contract in August, but if he’s staying at Inter beyond August it remains a possibility for him to extend.

No change on Victor Osimhen to Chelsea saga

As ever, a lot is being written about Victor Osimhen’s future, with reports from England and Italy saying completely different things, but from what I’m told there has been no change in the last 24-48 hours. With Chelsea, I expect nothing will change tomorrow or the next day either, because the situation is still very clear – Chelsea’s interest remains, they are having conversations with Napoli, but the only option for them to continue is with a loan or another kind of creative formula.

Napoli want to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, and Lukaku has an agreement already with Napoli, but at the moment the issue is that Osimhen is not considering a loan move to Chelsea. He is also not going to lower his wages or accept a reduced salary. So, everything remains open and nothing has changed yet, but when it does I will let you know.

Mikel Merino Arsenal transfer talks ongoing

It’s gone a bit quiet on the Mikel Merino to Arsenal saga in recent days, so I’ve had some fans asking me for an update on the situation.

For now my understanding is that negotiations continue, it’s still all verbal with no formal bid but for sure Merino is waiting for Arsenal to complete the agreement with Real Sociedad.

It’s also about payment terms, the structure, more things to follow between the two clubs. Merino wants Arsenal, so it’s just on the clubs now.

Manchester United could be in luck as it looks like Denzel Dumfries is unlikely to sign a new contract with Inter Milan this month, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

However, it’s also not clear yet if Dumfries is really a top target for Man Utd, with Romano explaining to CaughtOffside as part of his exclusive Daily Briefing column that the Red Devils still seem to be focusing instead on signing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich in that area of the pitch.

Dumfries has shone for Inter and could be a fine addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad, but Mazraoui is also a strong option, so it may be that he’s the more realistic and/or affordable option right now.

Still, maybe Dumfries will be one to watch as the Netherlands international certainly doesn’t seem that committed to staying at Inter as things stand.

Denzel Dumfries to Manchester United?

Dumfries has been linked with United, but Romano has clarified the situation in his latest column.

Dumfries transfer: Man United links explained by Romano

“Another United story that has gained a lot of attention in recent hours is with Denzel Dumfries. At the moment, I’m still told that Man United’s focus remains on Noussair Mazraoui as their priority target. There’s still no agreement with Bayern but the player is also waiting for United, so the right-back story remains with full focus on Mazraoui,” Romano said.

“Dumfries will not sign a new contract in August, but if he’s staying at Inter beyond August it remains a possibility for him to extend.”

United surely need one of these players to come in as an upgrade on unconvincing duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, with neither quite looking good enough to be long-term first choice on the right-hand side of the MUFC defence.

Wan-Bissaka leaving Old Trafford could surely help move things along in terms of bringing in another right-back.

Manchester United are at the centre of a complicated transfer saga involving three players and two other clubs.

After signing striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and highly-rated centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille, the Red Devils are now forced to be creative with any more incomings.

Likely to pursue a new central midfielder but only if one of, or both, Casemiro and Scott McTominay depart, United’s sporting operation, overseen by INEOS’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe and sporting director Dan Ashworth, could yet finish the summer window with a flurry of activity.

Right-back in, right-back out at Old Trafford

And in addition to a midfielder, the 20-time league winners are also in the mix to sign a new right-back. Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui is rumoured to have already agreed personal terms and could join before Saturday’s Community Shield clash at Wembley against rivals Manchester City.

Man United want to sign Noussair Mazraoui if Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaves.
Noussair Mazraoui is an option at right-back for Manchester United.

However, similarly to Casemiro and McTominay, the Red Devils will only bring in a new full-back if Aaron Wan-Bissaka moves on. The former Crystal Palace defender is a top target for West Ham with the two clubs locked in talks for several days.

Denzel Dumfries wants Man United move

The two English clubs have yet to make a breakthrough though, and according to a recent report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, while United’s preference is to replace Wan-Bissaka with 26-year-old Mazraoui, another player-swap scenario has emerged as a possibility.

Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries is refusing to open contract talks with the Serie A club until the window has closed with the Dutch wing-back, thought to be a long-standing target, keen on a move to Old Trafford. Just like Mazraoui though, Dumfries’ future will depend on Wan-Bissaka, and with Inter Milan now also an option for the London-born defender, West Ham will be forced to either hasten their approach, or end negotiations.

Federico Chiesa is now set to become an even more intriguing option for Premier League clubs this summer.

Sources close to CaughtOffside are of the understanding that, during the last two weeks of the window, Juventus would be prepared to accept around €12/15m [£10.3/12.8m] for his services.

Salary requirements, likewise, could very well follow suit and tumble. The player’s demands were once considerable (at €8m-per-year [£6.8m]), however, his negotiating power has decreased significantly in light of his changed squad status.

Where does the Premier League stand on Federico Chiesa?

Premier League interest is, admittedly, somewhat tentative at this current stage. Tottenham had seemed to be on the verge of making an offer for Chiesa, though there has yet to be any concrete movement of this kind. Likewise, as far as other rumoured suitors in Chelsea and Liverpool – which Fali Ramadani has shared details with – are concerned.

The Italian’s agent is now understood to be attempting to court interest from English top-flight outfits outside the Big Six. The goal is to secure a considerable salary and contract length of at least 4-5 years.

In Italy, there is some interest. Currently Inter Milan (only on a free transfer in 2025), Roma and Napoli remain attentive to the player’s situation. Though, for the time being, they remain unlikely to offer the kind of figures that would please Chiesa.

Having not accepted a contract renewal with Juventus (offered at the end of May), the 26-year-old’s future looks set to remain complicated.

Juventus and Inter are working on a swap deal that would see Federico Chiesa and Davide Frattesi switch clubs, according to Tuttosport.

Chiesa has been heavily linked with several Premier League clubs this summer, including Newcastle United, while Tuttosport say (via Football Italia) that the player’s agent Fali Ramadani flew to London for talks with Chelsea and Tottenham.

However, no English club has yet come forward with a firm offer, leading Chiesa’s entourage to search elsewhere for potential suitors.

Now, Tuttosport are making the claim that Inter have been following Chiesa closely for some time now and that the reigning Serie A champions have been considering bringing him to the club on a free transfer next summer.

Those plans could now be accelerated, with a €10m plus Chiesa offer reportedly about to hit their table from Juventus in exchange for midfielder Frattesi.

Inter may well be tempted to take the deal as a cheaper alternative to reported target Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta.

Frattesi to get fresh start in Turin?

Davide Frattesi of FC Internazionale celebrates with his team-mate Lautaro Martinez after scoring his team’s second goal during the Serie A TIM match between FC Internazionale and Hellas Verona FC at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on January 06, 2024

Frattesi might be keen on the move to Turin after starting just six Serie A matches in his first campaign as an Inter player.

Even so, the Italy international has previously praised manager Simone Inzaghi’s man management skills, suggesting the two could have found an understanding in the future.

“It’s best to see a team where everyone is involved. Credit to Inzaghi for not leaving anyone behind,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sportsmax) in February.

“Even when they were always playing the same ones, he came to talk to us and motivate us, making us feel important. I didn’t think I’d be a starter here straight away, it would have been stupid to even think so – but the bench is an opportunity for growth.

“Inzaghi knows how to manage us and when you have a bad day, he tells you the right words.”

In the end, it may be easier for Frattesi and Inter to part ways, with the latter securing a long-time target in the process.

Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck is a target for West Ham according to reports as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

It’s been all change at the London Stadium after the departure of David Moyes and former Wolves and Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is now the man in charge.

The Hammers have been busy in the market and have made some good signings with the likes of Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and Crysencio Summerville all arriving, whilst German striker Niclas Fullkrug is set to complete his move to the club on Monday.

West Ham interested in Bisseck

Defensive reinforcements have been a high priority for West Ham and despite signing Kilman they are believed to be in the market for another centre back.

The Hammers have been linked with a move for Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo and Toulouse’s Logan Costa.

However, there’s another name on the list and Italian outlet FCInterNews.it have reported that West Ham have made an approach for Inter centre back Bisseck but face a difficult task to sign the 23-year-old.

Bisseck only joined Inter Milan last summer.

The report adds that Inter value Bisseck in the region of €25m and consider the German as unsellable.

Bisseck is a Germany under-21 international and only joined the Italian champions last summer from Danish side Aarhus GF.

The centre back, who will be hoping to break into the starting line-up on a more consistent basis next season made 21 appearances in all competitions during the last campaign, with ten of those coming in Serie A.

It’s not just in the centre of defence where the Hammers need to strengthen and they are also in the market for a right back.

West Ham have identified Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a target with the Old Trafford outfit said to want around £18m for the 26-year-old, although an agreement is yet to be reached between the clubs.

A deal is certainly there to be done as United need to offload Wan-Bissaka in order to complete a move for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui who they have already agreed personal terms with.

West Ham United’s move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka has hit a stumbling block with Italian giants Inter attempting to ‘hijack’ the deal, according to reports.

Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019 and has made 190 appearances for the club across all competitions, lifting EFL Cup and FA Cup titles along the way.

However, the 26-year-old right-back has slowly fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and since Erik ten Hag’s arrival, has played just 41 of 76 Premier League matches, starting just 36 of them.

West Ham were understood to be closing on a deal to sign Wan-Bissaka — once described as ‘outstanding’ by Red Devils legend Gary Neville — just a matter of days ago. However, that move now looks in serious danger of collapsing, with Football Insider reporting that Inter have now come to the table.

The Serie A champions are a little light in the right-back department with former Man Utd defender Matteo Darmian — now 34 years old — their only senior option right now.

Football Insider’s report states that both clubs are pushing to get a deal closed before the start of their respective league seasons on August 16th.

But it looks like West Ham have serious work to do as they currently fall £5m short of United’s £15m valuation of Wan-Bissaka, who is also understood to prefer a move abroad — handing Inter the edge in negotiations.

Ahead of Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot has been Man Utd’s go-to right-back under Ten Hag. However, the club are searching for other options this summer with Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui heavily linked.

Manchester United are now understood to be pressing forward in their bid to sign Bayern Munich fullback Noussair Mazraoui.

Sources close to CaughtOffside have made it clear that there will be no issue over securing personal terms with the 26-year-old.

That said, should the Red Devils be unsuccessfull in their pursuit of the Moroccan star, Dutch head coach Erik ten Hag has a “plan B” line up in the form Inter Milan right-back Denze Dumfries.

Inter Milan, for what it’s worth, won’t take any potential interest lying down. The Serie A giants are understood to have held talks to extend the terms of their 28-year-old defender.

However, this could come to a standstill should the No.2 look for a move to the Premier League.

The Red Devils have a “Plan C” in place either way, which is to be ready to compete with fellow English top-flight rivals Arsenal and Liverpool (plus PSG) for Feyenoord star Lutsharel Geertruida.

The Rotterdam-born fullback excelled under the tutelage of Arne Slot last term, registering 14 goal contributions in 47 games (across all competitions).

Meanwhile, West Ham United continue talks with Manchester United over the possibility of signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.
