Hajduk Split manager Gennaro Gattuso, known for his fiery personality, has made headlines for telling his own player to ‘f*** off’.

In June, the Croatian club announced that the former AC Milan and Italy star had signed a contract with them until 2026.

Gattuso’s no-nonsense approach was evident during a press conference before Hajduk Split’s European qualifier against Ruzomberok.

Seated next to player Filip Krovinovic, Gattuso cut him off as he was about to respond to a journalist, saying,

“Filip, don’t speak too much, come on, very quickly and f**k off!”

Despite the abruptness, Krovinovic laughed it off, as did others in the press room, appreciating the Italian’s character.

Former West Brom midfielder Filip Krovinovic was reportedly subjected to a brutal assault in a restaurant toilet just hours after helping his team secure a crucial victory.

Krovinovic, who spent two seasons on loan at West Brom from Benfica, is fondly remembered by the fans for his pivotal role in the team’s promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder scored three goals and provided four assists in 55 appearances for the club over two seasons.

Following his loan spell, Krovinovic spent half a season with Nottingham Forest in the Championship before making a permanent move back to his native country, joining Croatian side Hajduk Split in 2021.

Krovinovic Assaulted in Restaurant Toilet

After helping Hajduk Split secure a vital 5-2 win against NK Lokomotiva, Krovinovic was reportedly attacked by three men while dining with friends at a restaurant in Zagreb.

According to The Sun, the assailants punched and kicked Krovinovic to the floor in the restaurant toilets before fleeing the scene, leaving him with cuts and bruises.

Authorities in the Croatian capital have confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

Reports suggest that the attack may have been perpetrated by rival fans, targeting Krovinovic solely because of his association with Hajduk Split.

Club Statement Condemns Attack

Hajduk Split issued a statement condemning the assault, asserting that Krovinovic was the victim of a targeted attack motivated by his affiliation with the club.

The statement emphasised that Krovinovic did not provoke the attack and stressed the need for the authorities to investigate and punish those responsible.

The statement read (via The Sun):

“Filip Krovinovic was attacked by a group of rival fans.“He was the target of a physical attack after leaving the Kranjcevic Stadium, with the only reason being that he plays for Hajduk.”

“We condemn this barbarous act. We hope the authorities investigate it and punish those involved.“

“This has nothing to do with sporting rivalry. We must stress that Filip did not provoke the attack.”

“His aggressors attacked him in a group when they felt it was a convenient moment.

“It is just pure luck that Krovinovic did not suffer more severe consequences.”

Aston Villa transfer roundup: Johansen, Vidic and Kalinic all linked in January window https://www.caughtoffside.com/2016/01/21/aston-villa-transfer-roundup-johansen-vidic-and-kalinic-all-linked-in-january-window/ Thu, 21 Jan 2016 15:18:23 +0000 http://www.caughtoffside.com/?p=1186244 With around 10 days left of the January transfer window, Aston Villa are yet to make a single addition despite their precarious situation at the bottom of the table. With around 10 days left of the January transfer window, Aston Villa are yet to make a single addition despite their precarious situation at the bottom of the table.

Players have left, with Gary Gardner joining Nottingham Forest, Jose Angel Crespo linking up with Rayo Vallecano and Joe Bennett seeing out the campaign with Sheffield Wednesday, which means there is space and need for new faces to come on board to help manager Remi Garde stamp his own authority on the squad.

However, there have been names linked with joining up, and below we’re running through the names and running the rule over whether they’d be a good fit at B6, and whether the deals are likely to happen.

Lovre Kalinic Aston Villa

Lovre Kalinic – Goalkeeper – Hajduk Split

The goalkeeper position is one that could have done with being seriously looked at over the summer. Current number one Brad Guzan was dropped towards the end of last season for Shay Given, and though he was reinstated this term, he has once again found himself back in the bench in favour of Mark Bunn.

With Guzan’s shaky form, and even shakier distribution doing him no favours, he may well have sealed his fate with a recent run in with Villa fans during the recent clash with Wycombe.

The link with Kalinic is a strange one, mostly because it came from nowhere. Though he is a Croatian international, he is not yet a household name, but he seems to have all the attributes to be a success.

Standing at 6’7, the 25-year-old has established himself as Split’s first choice in recent years and is set to take a place at this summer’s European Championship. Respected Croatian football journalist Aleksandar Holiga believes it will be a good move, highlighting the player’s attributes and reports this week are claiming that a £5million deal is close to being completed.

Nemanja Vidic Inter Milan Nemanja Vidic – Defender – Free agent Vidic is no stranger to the Premier League, having spent eight years at Manchester United, but things haven’t gone according to plan since he departed Old Trafford. Having made 23 appearances in a less than impressive campaign during his first year with Inter Milan, the 34-year-old’s luck ran out there as he has been frozen out by Roberto Mancini this time around, and his contract was terminated earlier this week. And according to reports, Villa have been offered the chance to sign the veteran up quickly. Normally, Villa should jump at the chance of signing such an experienced and intelligent defender, but given that he hasn’t played since May, it might take him a while to get back to full fitness. However, with Crespo leaving and rumours linking Joleon Lesscott with a move to China, the deal could make sense. Z7AN Christian Santos – NEC Nijmegen – Attacking midfielder Santos is a relative unknown to English football circles, but with Villa lacking in creativity and goals, the Venezuelan international has been tipped to come on board and give Villa an extra edge. The 27-year-old has an impressive scoring record in the Netherlands, bagging 35 goals in 52 appearances for NEC, and as he explained on his Twitter account, a clause in his contract would allow him to leave the club and join Villa for just €300,000. However, though he may represent a low cost risk for the Villans, Dutch football expert Mohamed Moallim believes that he may not be of the required standard to help fire them up the table.

william-hill-scottish-cup-scottish-cup-fifth-rnd-celtic-dundee-v-celtic-stefan-johansen_3261472

Stefan Johansen – Celtic – Central midfield

Another link that has seemingly sprang up out of nowhere, as The Sun claim that Villa scouts have been keeping an eye on the Norwegian international with the view of making a £5m move for him in the coming week.

Johansen is known for his energetic, all-action approach – a player former Villa striker and Norwegian international John Carew described as “the Duracell bunny with tekkers”, and was voted as both Celtic’s Player of the Year last season as well as the SPL’s Player of the Year.

However, there are rumours he has been carrying an injury this term, as he has been unable to display his best form again, but with just 18 months left on his current deal and a whole host of competition in Celtic’s midfield, Remi Garde may look to him to bring some much needed energy into the middle.

Adrian Ramos – Borussia Dortmund – Striker

There seems to be very little in this one. The Birmingham Mail reported it in passing this week, but only as part of a ‘rumour roundup’ and the story had no links to anything concrete.

Villa are in need of another striker, but there have so far been very few scraps to feed off here, though Ramos would certainly fit the bill.

At 29, this may be his last chance to move to the Premier League, and his career at Dortmund has stalled after impressing so greatly at Hertha Berlin. Villa fans like a Colombian striker thanks to the efforts of Juan Pablo Angel, and with Carlos Sanchez in the team he would have a compatriot to help him settle.

But, as it stands, it’s a non-starter.

Aston Villa are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Croatian international goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic after agreeing a £5million fee with Hajduk Split, according to reports in Croatia.

Villa boss Remi Garde is hoping to stamp his own impression on the squad he inherited from Tim Sherwood earlier in the season and wants to strengthen his options in goal having recently dropped number one Brad Guzan for Mark Bunn.

And it now seems that Kalinic will become the club’s first arrival of the January window after a £5million fee was agreed with the Croatian big guns.

The 26-year-old has two caps for the national team having made his debut last year, and will be expected to make the squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Villa will be hoping that a successful late serge in the transfer market will help them revive their season and make a climb up the table towards survival.

Dinamo owner battles with spectator as his side win.

Dinamo Zagreb owner Zdravko Mamic was filmed getting into a scrap after his side chalked up a 2-0 win at Hajduk Split in Croatia this weekend.

The league leaders continued their march to the Croatian title with a victory over their fierce rivals at the Poljud Stadium in Split.

At the final whistle Mamic climbed over the fence to celebrate amongst the Split staff and was confronted by former Split player Ivo Bego.

It wasn’t much of a fight, as the scuffle was quickly broken up by a ton of men from either side, but it sure is funny watching old men troll.

However, they are set to be disappointed during the January transfer window, as his father, Nikola, has stated that the 18-year-old is intent on staying with his current club for the time being.

The English pair may also face some serious competition from Serie A as he had admirers in the shape of Lazio, Napoli, Cagliari and Chievo, who have also been keeping tabs on his progression.

Mujan had also once been a target for Liverpool, though his father is adamant that the Croatian under-18 international will be staying in Split under the tutelage of former Croatian international Igor Tudor for a little while longer.

“I must admit a number of clubs are interested in Tonci. Some years ago he got a call to come to Liverpool, but he stayed,” he told daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.

“Now there are more clubs from England who want him, and also from Italy.

“But for now he wants to stay at Hajduk and become an even better player. But then again we have to see what kind of plans his club has for him.”
