Former Everton and West Bromwich Albion star Salomon Rondon scored a clutch goal in Venezuela’s 2024 Copa America quarterfinal matchup against Canada in Arlington, Texas, on Friday night.

Canada took the 1-0 lead in the first half and came close to taking a 2-0 advantage at various points in the matchup. However, Rondon’s scoring from near the halfway mark on the pitch beat Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, who was off his line, resulting in the 1-1 score midway through the second half.

Edu says Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay are favourites for the cup.

Former Arsenal legend Edu says he thinks either Brazil, Argentina, or Uruguay will win this summer’s upcoming Copa America.

Edu, currently a general manager at Brazilian giants Corinthians, told the official site that “Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay will always be favourites because they have great squads, but Chile could also have something to say.”

“At the World Cup the South American teams did very well and from what I can see these teams will continue to get better with the competition there is” he added. “The 2015 Copa América will be a great tournament to follow”.

The tournament kicks off on 11th June with hosts Chile vs Ecuador. The final at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago will be on the 4th July.

Edu played for Arsenal from 2001 to 2005, playing a significant role in the their ‘invincibles’ season.

Copa America Groups:

Group A: Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia
Group B: Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Jamaica
Group C: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela

Copa America 2015 Draw

The group stages for the 2015 Copa America in Chile have just been drawn.

The 2015 edition of the tournament kicks-off on 11th June, with the final being held in Chile’s national stadium in Santiago on 4th July.

The group stages have just been drawn:

GROUP A
Chile
Mexico
Ecuador
Bolivia

GROUP B
Argentina
Uruguay
Paraguay
Jamaica

GROUP C
Brazil

Venezuela

The 2015 event will be the 44th edition of the competition. Argentina are the most successful side, with 9 titles to their name. Despite not being part of CONMEBOL, Mexico and Jamaica participate as invitees.

Ok, let’s rephrase that – “Have you seen a goal scored from a tighter angle by a player who isn’t called Roberto Carlos?”

This incredible effort was scored in the Chile vs Venezuela friendly this weekend. Jorge Valdivia was the scoring, putting the hosts 2-0 up on the stroke of halftime. They went on to win 5-0.

We say claimed, because multiple replays have not made it clear that he was actually the Chile player who got the final touch.

The seeding pots have been decided for the 2015 Copa America draw.

The tournament will be hosted in Chile 11th June and 4th July next year.

There will be three groups of four teams, with the top two sides and the two best third-place teams progressing the to quarter finals.

Chile, Argentina, and Brazil have already been assigned to pot one, two, and three respectively.
