The defender was loaned out to Swansea City last season when it looked like he will be given an opportunity to prove himself in the first team last season.

It is looking highly likely now that the player will be used by Howe this summer to add more depth in the squad, something that was badly missing last season when the club suffered an injury crisis.

Tino Livramento is currently ahead of Ashby in the pecking order but it could all change if Kieran Trippier moves away from the club this summer.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, there has been confirmation that Newcastle have allowed one of their talented Englishmen to leave the club.

Eddie Howe will understand that he needs to be ruthless in some cases as the Magpies continue to progress, with any decision made solely for the benefit of the club and not necessarily personal against any player.

Some decisions will be easier to make than others, whilst some will be difficult but, ultimately, needed.

Harrison Ashby, who only signed for the club in January, isn’t going to get close to the first-team selection anytime soon, so it makes sense to move the player on.

Importantly, according to BBC Sport, his move to Swansea City for the entirety of the 2023/24 Championship season will allow the youngster to get the game time that his talent deserves, and may even hold him in better stead for a chance to integrate into the Magpies first-team for 2024/25.

The deal has been done quickly enough for the youngster to be available for selection for the Swans season opener against Birmingham City on Saturday.

From Newcastle’s point of view it’s a win-win situation, as it means the 21-year-old will get some competitive action in a physical league.

Should he do well and the Magpies decide against the player returning, Swansea would surely only be too delighted to get Ashby on a permanent deal further down the road.

Newcastle United complete their pre-season commitments this coming weekend with the Sela Cup tournament that will see them play against Fiorentina and Villarreal.

It will provide Eddie Howe and his backroom staff with a final chance to take a look at the players before their opening Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

Though it would be expected that the manager would have some sort of idea which players may form his first XI of the 2023/24 Premier League season, the final 180 minutes of pre-season could give others the chance to stake a claim.

If there’s one thing that managers apparently love to have, it’s the competition for places in all areas so that no one gets comfortable.

One player that’s almost certain not to feature for the Magpies next season, however, is Harrison Ashby.

The youngster only joined the club from West Ham in January, but according to Newcastle World, he is on the verge of joining Swansea City on a season-long loan with a medical booked for next Monday.

Ashby, 21, has yet to make a competitive appearance for Eddie Howe’s side, and the loan move away would suggest that his future lies elsewhere, unless his performances for the Swans during the upcoming campaign get his parent club sitting up and taking notice.

Newcastle United full-back Harrison Ashby looks set to undergo a medical at Swansea on Monday.

Swans manager Michael Duff recently confirmed to BBC Wales that the club has three deals booked for Monday next week.

Although Magpies boss Eddie Howe has been quick to deny any suggestions Ashby, 21, is on his way to the Liberty Stadium on loan, it looks to be just a matter of time before the young defender secures a move to the Championship side.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are making significant progress in their pursuit of signing Tino Livramento from Southampton.

Talks have reportedly advanced rapidly in the last 24 hours. The young full-back’s arrival is expected to provide cover and competition for current first-choice right-back Kieran Trippier.

However, Livramento’s potential signing could also lead to 21-year-old Harrison Ashby leaving the club.

The report suggests that Ashby might be sent out on loan to continue his development, as Livramento’s arrival might limit his opportunities for first-team football at Newcastle.

Ashby has been involved in Newcastle’s pre-season preparations and even scored the winner in a match against Rangers for Eddie Howe’s team.

There isn’t long left for Eddie Howe to make a splash in the transfer window with Newcastle United.

After acquiring Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, the Magpies supporters might be feeling a little miffed as to why that signing hasn’t been followed by a flurry of other big names.

However, with Financial Fair Play at stake, Newcastle don’t have an awful lot of leg room in terms of being able to legally massage the figures in order to bring in more than one or two more stars.

There remains a possibility of bringing in Harvey Barnes from Leicester City, though it’s believed negotiations have been going on for some while and there’s still no resolution to that particular deal.

The club may have to go back into the market at a late stage too, as they’ll need cover in the right-back area.

According to Chronicle Live, 21-year-old Harrison Ashby, who only joined the Magpies in January, is the subject of interest from a number of Championship clubs.

He has, apparently, endured rather than enjoyed the last six months and with no real chance of usurping Kieran Tripper or indeed providing him with genuine competition for the role, the best thing from Howe’s point of view is to send Ashby out on loan at the very least.

Should that situation come to pass, then the Newcastle manager will need cover for Trippier as a matter of priority.

Having already secured the signing of Sandro Tonali for Newcastle, Eddie Howe is wasting no time it seems in aiming to beef up the Magpies first-team squad.

With a Champions League campaign to add to their Premier League and domestic cup commitments, Newcastle are going to need some strength in depth if they want to be there or thereabouts at the business end of the competitions that they’ve entered.

To that end, it’s believed that the club are trying hard to secure the services of 20-year-old Southampton star, Tino Livramento.

If they’re successful in being able to get the right-back to move to the north east, that could spell the end of Harrison Ashby at the club, despite only signing with them at the start of the year.

According to inews, there are some Championship clubs enquiring after Ashby’s services and, given that he hasn’t yet made any inroads into the Newcastle first-team in any event, it could be a move that suits all parties.

There’s still a long way to go before that happens, however, given that the Saints want £30m for Livramento and inews suggest that the Magpies only want to pay around half of that amount.

The likelihood is that the two clubs will meet somewhere in the middle because Southampton could do with the money and Newcastle need the player.

Players like this with a high ceiling and noticeable attributes are very valuable to Newcastle and should keep them in line with FFP, and although City developed plenty of young stars, they rarely made the first team and were behind big-money signings in the pecking order.

Newcastle in talks to seal multiple deadline day moves

Newcastle United are set to seal a number of transfers before the January window closes.

According to reports, the Magpies have already signed Garang Kuol from Central Coast Mariners and Anthony Gordon from Everton.

Kuol has now joined Hearts on loan for the remainder of the season while Gordon will be expected to make his debut for Newcastle soon.

Meanwhile, West Ham United’s Harrison Ashby has completed his move to the club.

Having sealed three transfers already, the Magpies are now in the process of finalizing a move for Jonjo Shelvey, who is heading to Nottingham Forest.

The 30-year-old midfielder will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Nottingham Forest after the Premier League side made a late move for him.

He was expected to continue at Newcastle this season but Nottingham’s offer has proven too good to turn down for the midfielder.

The Newcastle midfielder would have been out of contract at the end of the season and Nottingham’s offer has secured his long-term future.

Newcastle United are preparing their announcement for the signing of youngster Harrison Ashby from West Ham United.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth confirmed on Twitter this afternoon that Ashby had completed his medical ahead of his move to the Magpies and that the club would issue a formal announcement soon.

The 21-year-old has joined for a fee of £3 million including add-ons and the Irons have included a sell-on clause within the terms.
