Dean Henderson has admitted on social media that he’s trying to persuade a Crystal Palace teammate to join Sheffield United.

Henderson became a Bramhall Lane favourite during a two-year loan spell from Manchester United between 2018 and 2020, helping the Blades win promotion and then finish comfortably in ninth place in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has since spent time with Nottingham Forest, before joining Crystal Palace last summer, where he made 20 appearances across all competitions last season.

Henderson advises teammate to join Blades

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi during the Pre-Season Friendly between Barnet and Crystal Palace at The Hive on July 11, 2023 in Barnet, England.

Henderson’s Palace teammate, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, has reportedly been drawing interest from a number of clubs in England and Europe this summer.

Rak-Sakyi enjoyed a loan spell at Charlton Athletic in League One in 2022/23 that yielded 15 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

His stock was incredibly high upon returning to Selhurst Park, but the winger struggled to make an impact last season, restricted to just eight senior appearances.

As a result, several clubs in Europe and England are rumoured to be pursuing the 21-year-old, including Sheffield United.

Blades supporters seem keen on the idea of signing the five-time England youth international, with one fan taking to X (formerly Twitter) to ask if Henderson can ‘sell the club’ to Rak-Sakyi.

Surprisingly, that post got a response from Henderson himself, who simply wrote: “I have.”

Could ‘agent Henderson’ give Sheffield United the edge over the likes of Leeds, Southampton and Lyon?

Dean Henderson has told Ollie Watkins that his late winner against the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-finals was the ‘best moment of his career’.

Watkins came on from the bench and netted in the 91st minute to complete a 2-1 comeback victory for the Three Lions, who booked their place in a second consecutive European Championship final in the process.

The late goal sparked wild celebrations inside Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, with England’s substitutes flooding onto the field to get involved.

One of those substitutes was goalkeeper Henderson and despite not featuring in a single minute at the tournament, Watkins has revealed the Crystal Palace goalkeeper told him it was the ‘best moment of his career’.

“Dean Henderson said it’s the best moment of his career and he wasn’t even playing,” Watkins told reporters (via BBC Sport).

“We work so hard, day in and day out, across the season. We’re all here on merit, we’re regular starters for our club teams. It’s hard to adapt to being a substitute but everyone’s together. It [England’s run to the final] has brought the group together.”

Watkins admits Spain have been Euro 2024’s ‘best team so far’

England arrived at Euro 2024 as one of the pre-tournament favourites but their performances in Germany mean they head into Sunday’s final against Spain as the underdogs.

La Roja, meanwhile, have been most people’s pick as the best team of the summer, already beating the likes of Croatia, Italy, Germany and France — as well as Georgia and Albania — to reach this stage. What’s more, Luis de la Fuente’s men have posted tournament highs so far for goals scored (13), expected goals (11.06), shots on target (38) and chances created (96).

Even Watkins has admitted Spain represent an enormous challenge for England in Berlin on Sunday.

“I feel like we are very strong, Spain have had some tough games and had to come through a harder journey than us,” he said. “[Beating] the so-called bigger teams. I see what the boss is saying, I think they’ve been the best team in the tournament so far.”

Things have been on the up for Crystal Palace of late, both on and off the pitch.

The hire of Oliver Glasner has turned out to be a master stroke, with the only real issue being that the season ended too early for the Eagles last season. Glasner was just getting warmed up.

His teams were playing some sparkling stuff as they dismantled West Ham, Aston Villa, Man United and Newcastle United at Selhurst Park, and took all three points from Liverpool at Anfield.

Crystal Palace’s training ground neighbours are not happy

Recognition of just how well the team have been playing was provided when all of Adam Wharton, Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson were selected by former Palace captain and now England manager, Gareth Southgate, for his squad for Euro 2024.

No club has more players in the squad, which is an incredible vote of confidence for what Palace are doing down in South London.

Crystal Palace's training ground neighbours are furious with club plans
Crystal Palace’s training ground neighbours are furious with club plans

However, not everyone is happy about the club’s relative success. At least not the neighbours to the club’s Academy ground in Copers Cope Road.

A densely populated residential area in Beckenham, there are apparently already enough traffic problems in the area when Palace’s youth teams are playing at weekends, or training of a summer evening.

Now, the News Shopper are reporting on Palace’s plans to have floodlights installed which would allow them to host midweek evening matches at the venue.

That’s clearly a step too far for the locals, and 48 of them have apparently raised objections.

They are citing the dangers of the road being extremely busy already at certain times of the day and evening, with parents and their children apparently not allowed into the training complex and who wait outside on the pavements.

It’s clearly an emotive subject and one that could have a really negative impact on the club.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

Johnstone joined the Eagles from West Brom in the summer of 2022 but initially struggled to make an impact, sitting out their first 29 Premier League matches of the season.

However, Johnstone was called in for the final nine league outings and impressed, conceding just 10 goals and keeping three clean sheets as Palace lost just twice during that time.

Johnstone remained the No.1 heading into the 2023/24 season, starting each of Palace’s first 16 Premier League matches and keeping five clean sheets before succumbing to a calf injury. The ex-Man Utd stopper returned to action for another four matches between February 19 and March 9, but once again was sidelined, this time with an elbow issue that ended his campaign.

That meant Johnstone — who picks up a £40,000 per week salary, according to Capology — played just three times under new boss Oliver Glasner, with fellow England international Dean Henderson impressing in his place as Palace enjoyed an excellent end to the campaign, rising to 10th in the table — their first top-half finish since 2014/15.

Nottingham Forest to renew Johnstone interest?

According to a report from the Telegraph, Nottingham Forest are considering renewing their interest in Johnstone — who stands at 6ft 3in — after failing to land the four-time England international back in January.

The report states that Forest must raise considerable funds before they are able to make incoming transfers as they continue to battle Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, suffering a four-point deduction last season.

However, it’s understood current goalkeepers Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos have both been put up for sale, which would open the door for them to finally land Johnstone.

Crystal Palace signed goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United late in the transfer window for roughly £20m plus add-ons.

However the signing may have become more of a headache for manager Roy Hodgson.

Sam Johnstone has so far been rock solid in between the post for Palace, which is why Henderson may not be guaranteed a spot in the starting XI despite the fee Palace paid for him.

Before the game against Wolves this past weekend, Roy Hodgson admitted that he now has two top class goalkeepers.

And it was Sam Johnstone who started against Wolves with Henderson on the bench.

Transfer Insider Dean Jones has now claimed that Henderson will have to fight for a spot in the starting XI.

He told GiveMeSport:

“I don’t think [Henderson] will win the battle soon. I think that from everything I understand at Crystal Palace, he has to properly fight Johnstone for this number one shirt.

“I’m not sure Roy Hodgson particularly likes the idea of having a full-on goalkeeper battle for an entire season.

“He likes to have a tried and tested system, particularly defensively, so that everybody understands their roles and each other.

“I don’t really know how this is going to play out in terms of having two goalkeepers that really want to be playing week in, week out going up against each other.

“But from everything I understand, for the foreseeable future, Johnstone is going to be the guy starting.”

Henderson spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but an injury cut short his season.

Henderson must have been hoping to replace David De Gea who left the club on free.

But much to his disappointment, United signed Onana from Inter Milan to replace him.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set to join Crystal Palace in a permanent deal this summer.

According to a report from the Athletic, the 26-year-old will join the London club in a deal worth around £15 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Henderson has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for weeks now.

The 26-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and he is unlikely to get that opportunity at Manchester United.

The player was on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and he has previously impressed during a loan spell at Sheffield United as well. There is no doubt that the 26-year-old is good enough to start regularly in the Premier League and a move to Crystal Palace could provide him with the opportunities he needs.

Henderson will look to establish himself as a key player for Crystal Palace and force his way into the England set-up in the coming months.

Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace?

Manchester United have signed Andre Onana earlier this summer, and they are thought to be closing in on a deal to sign Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce as well. Henderson would have been the third-choice keeper at the club and it makes sense for him to move on.

The reported £20 million sale will allow Manchester United to bring in their own signings as well. The Red Devils could use a quality central defender and some depth in the central midfield as well.

Crystal Palace are reportedly in the driving seat to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

That’s according to a recent report from The Athletic, who claim the English goalkeeper is closing in on joining the Eagles amid rival interest from Nottingham Forest.

Likely to leave Old Trafford at the same time the club welcome Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce, Henderson, 24, will draw a line under a 12-year spell with the Red Devils.

Since being promoted to the club’s first team by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in 2020, Henderson, who has up to three years left on his deal, has kept 13 clean sheets from 29 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson could finally be close to resolving his future after a long running saga this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England international spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and seems unlikely to break into the Man Utd starting XI any time soon, with new signing Andre Onana coming in and straight away becoming Erik ten Hag’s number one.

Still, it’s taken some time for Henderson to find a new club, with Romano now providing an update on his future in the latest edition of his CaughtOffside column on Substack.

Despite long-running links with Forest, it now looks like Henderson is more likely to move to Crystal Palace, according to Romano, who expects this to be resolved in the coming days.

Dean Henderson to leave Manchester United?

It seems one reason for the delay has been due to United’s key demands over a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

“Dean Henderson’s future has also dragged on for a while. Man United always wanted a loan with obligation to buy clause, that is the key point,” Romano said.

“Crystal Palace are currently the favourites to sign him over Nottingham Forest, interest remains there from both sides. I expect him to finally leave United in the next few days.”
