When Man United are looking to head off several other clubs in their chase for a player, you know that he must be good.

Hull City ace, Jaden Philogene, has certainly had the world of football talking recently after it was believed that Barcelona had come in for the 22-year-old Hull City star.

Though a potential move to Catalonia hasn’t come to fruition, TeamTalk note that the Red Devils have made their interest in the player clear, with Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich Town, Everton and Crystal Palace all circling.

Man United want Jaden Philogene

With 17 goals and seven assists in 80 English Championship games per transfermarkt, it’s obvious why Philogene is so much in demand.

Former England international, Chris Waddle, actually believes that the player’s ambitions will be better served by playing in Europe.

“He’s only twenty-two, so the potential is massive,” he said to Lord Ping.

Jaden Philogene to Man United?
Jaden Philogene to Man United?

“When I first saw him, I thought he looked like a player that was destined to reach the top of the game. I found it strange that Hull managed to get him because his potential was clear. He’ll obviously be sold for a lot more money than Hull paid for him, so it’s been a shrewd investment from them and a great bit of business.

“He’s one of those wingers who picks up the ball and takes people on. He’s an entertainer. He’s exciting.

“I’ll be honest, I think his game probably suits the continent rather than England. I think he’ll have more freedom to express himself playing in Europe where he can focus on the things he does well and not have to worry as much about the defensive side of the game.

“For his development as a player, a move to Europe would also benefit him. Barcelona have been linked to him, which says it all about the type of player he is and could become.

“He’s going to have some wonderful options and he deserves them. If I was him, I’d go to a club in Spain or Germany.”

With Newcastle’s new ownership still in its infancy, there’s plenty of time for the new directors to take stock of the situation on the playing side and decide which areas are a priority to be strengthened.

Becoming the richest club in the world overnight according to MARCA, will afford the club certain advantages in the transfer window, but is likely to also leave them open to the overtures of agents of certain players looking for a big pay day.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal which The Sun detailed back in June would be worth £400,000 per week, thereby making him the best paid player in the Premier League.

MORE: Liverpool’s interest confirmed

Former Newcastle star, Chris Waddle, believes that the Magpies should be making the French World Cup winner their first signing of the new era, per The Sun.

“Paul Pogba’s out of contract isn’t he? Now people might say about Newcastle — but money talks,” he said.

“If they sell the dream about what we’re going to win and achieve, it might.”

Waddle is entitled to his opinion of course, but he’s completely wide of the mark on this occasion.

He will know more than most what the locals expect of their players, and hard work, desire and being a real team player are pre-requisites.

Pogba only shows his quality now and again, and that simply isn’t good enough for any club, let alone one that is effectively building from the ground up again and needs players to lead by example.

If he’s in the mood the midfielder is a joy to watch, but even with money to burn, the new owners are surely not going to accept having to pay nigh on half a million pounds a week if a player isn’t ‘at it’ consistently.

BBC pundit and former England ace Chris Waddle has cast doubt over the legitimacy of Philippe Coutinho’s back injury, and believes Liverpool should sell.

The Brazilian international missed his side’s Premier League season opener against Watford this weekend with the knock, while it remains to be seen whether or not he recovers in time for the Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim next week.

Waddle isn’t buying it though, as he believes that ultimately the 25-year-old is looking for a move to Barcelona and has questioned the convenient timing of the injury when he’s pushing for the transfer to happen after handing in a request on Friday.

The official line from the club has been that it’s the injury that is keeping Coutinho out of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for now, but perhaps Waddle has a point.

The former Tottenham, Marseille and Sheffield Wednesday star went on to insist that in his opinion, Liverpool are better off just selling him now rather than keeping a player who has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.

While that sounds like a sensible strategy, the problem is that there is just two weeks remaining in the transfer window so who could Klopp bring in to replace him? It’s a difficult situation for the Reds, but one that they’ll likely have to figure out in the coming days.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Chris Waddle has labelled the idea of a winter World Cup, as has been recommended for Qatar 2022, a farce.

A FIFA taskforce said on Tuesday that the tournament would need to be played in November or December due to the excessive Qatari heat during the summer months.

There are fears the temperatures, which can reach higher than 40C, would endanger the health of both supporters and players alike.

Therefore moving the tournament to the cooler winter period, where the heat is a more manageable 25C, would be safer.

However, this has proved a controversial decision with a winter World Cup causing havoc for European leagues and has led Chris Waddle to say there should be a boycott.

“It’s a farce. Why don’t they all just say now we’re all going on strike, all the big leagues in Europe,” said Waddle to BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The footballers in Europe control it, why are they sitting on the fence and saying why this and why that?

“They should all say don’t go, I’m not going. Without the European teams what would they do?”

Without any objections the decision to hold the Qatar World Cup in the winter of 2022 could be officially confirmed by the FIFA executive committee when they meet in Zurich on the 19th and 20th March.

What is it about former England players and the inane comments that they make ahead of international matches? Perhaps, when quizzed about the national team, they simply can’t resist making a controversial statement which is sure to give them the publicity that they once received for pulling on the Three Lions jersey with pride.

One thing’s for sure, the vast majority of football fans won’t agree with Chris Waddle’s assertion that Theo Walcott should be benched for England’s match against Kazakhstan on Saturday. Never mind that Capello’s team should win this match even if the entire Newcastle team were selected, surely scoring a hat-trick in your previous match is about as much as you can do to demonstrate that you are world-class. The big-mouthed Geordie tells the Daily Mail that he feels SWP should slot in instead.

“Despite his hat-trick, Walcott began the match very poorly in Croatia. He couldn’t control the ball, he looked very edgy and nervous. I would even go so far as to say that I wouldn’ t necessarily pick him on the right flank against Kazakhstan and Belarus.

If Capello uses injured Joe Cole’s absence to make room for Steven Gerrard, then I think Manchester City’s Shaun Wright-Phillips is a better bet than the Arsenal man.

I know Walcott grabbed the headlines and all the attention the last time he wore an England shirt – and everybody went ‘wow!’ – but that was a month or so ago.

Since then, it is Wright- Phillips who has been the star turn in the Premier League as far as right wingers go and, now that he is back in the England squad, I hope that he’s given the chance to continue his impressive club form on the international stage.”

First thing’s first, England need to go out and get the job done on Saturday, surely the best way to achieve this is stick with the same players that started the match in Croatia? If they lead the match 3-0 in the second half, then might be the time to start giving some of the squad players an opportunity, although Capello won’t be one for taking risks.

Does anyone think that the Manchester City winger should be picked ahead of the Arsenal youngster?
