Championship star given multi-game ban for racially abusing his teammate this summer

Former Cardiff City and Rangers defender Jack Simpson has been hit with a fine and multi-game ban having admitted to racially abusing one of his teammates.

While at the Bluebirds, Simpson was part of the club’s tour of Portugal in July 2023 and one night when players were given time off to enjoy some drinks after a friendly clash with Portuguese giants Porto, the defender abused his teammate Rohan Luthra with a racial slur.

After the players went down to breakfast the following day ahead of their return home, having gone out into Vilamoura the night prior, Simpson called Luthra ‘a dirty P***’ as the latter approached his table.

The incident was reported and Simpon admitted to saying those words. The footballer left Cardiff by mutual consent in August and has now been handed an £8,000 fine – plus an additional £1,000 in costs and hearing fees – and six-game suspension for calling a former team-mate a ‘P***’, reports the Daily Mail.

This will have a significant impact on Simpson’s career as he will find it hard to join a new club after this incident.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have agreed pre-contract deals with Bournemouth duo Nnamdi Ofoborh and Jack Simpson. However, Steven Gerrard hasn’t ruled out bringing the pair to the club this month.

The newspaper understands that Rangers have already tied up Bosman moves for the Nigerian midfielder and English centre-back, when they become free agents in the summer, but are now preparing a January capture for both. With the league title all but wrapped up, this would give Rangers an ideal opportunity to bed the pair into the side ahead of the new campaign.

Having already agreed pre-contract terms, the players could be available for a cut price fee.

Simpson has particularly caught the eye this season, regularly starting matches in the Championship up until the last week when it became apparent that he was set to leave the club. The central defender came through the ranks at the south coast side, and at 24 years of age, he is very much approaching his prime.

Ofoborh has been less fortunate with playing time, but it’s a tough midfield to break into with the likes of Jefferson Lerma, Lewis Cook and now Jack Wilshere all vying for positions in the team.

AFC Bournemouth accept Cardiff’s bid for highly rated English centre back

AFC Bournemouth have accepted a bid in the region of £750k for 24 year old English centre half Jack Simpson. The offer was sent by Cardiff City, who are looking to bolster their central defensive options after Leicester City recalled Filip Benkovic from his loan spell at the club in recent weeks.

Hearing that AFC Bournemouth have accepted a bid believed to be around 750k for defender Jack Simpson from Cardiff City.

Now, the Bournemouth Echo have taken up the story, revealing that Simpson’s departure to Cardiff is set to go ahead, in their understanding.

Simpson has recently enjoyed a solid run in the Bournemouth side, but did not feature in the club’s defeat to Luton Town yesterday.

The 24-year-old has been at the Cherries for more than 10 years, coming up through the academy to make his first-team debut in the EFL Cup against Middlesbrough in October 2017.

Simpson scored in that 3-1 win, his only goal in 35 appearances for the club.
