Liverpool have held discussions with the representatives of Wolves star Pedro Neto, whilst they are also weighing up a move for his team-mate Rayan Ait-Nouri according to reports.

It’s been all change at Anfield with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds have been quiet in the market and are yet to make any signings.

The club will also be looking to clarify the future of some of their key players with some uncertainties surrounding the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool plot double raid on Wolves

Liverpool are in the market for reinforcements and the wide areas are believed to be of interest to the club.

There had been questions over the future of Luis Diaz earlier in the summer, but it now appears the Colombian is set to stay.

Liverpool have been linked with moves for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but nothing has materialised with the new season drawing closer.

Liverpool are interested in both Neto and Ait-Nouri.

However, GIVEMSPORT have reported that the Anfield outfit have held talks with Wolves and the representatives of Pedro Neto to discuss the possibility of a move.

Neto still has three years left on his current deal meaning Wolves are in a position where they can command a big fee, and the report adds that Liverpool’s interest isn’t going away at they look for competition for Diaz.

The Portugal international is thought to be valued at around £60m, and wants to play for a club with European football if he leaves.

Neto isn’t the only Wolves player the Reds are looking at and GIVEMSPORT add that Ait-Nouri is thought to also be on their radar.

Some reports had suggested the Algerian has a £38m release clause in his contract, but Wolves haven’t confirmed if that’s the case, and a number of Premier League clubs are thought to be interested in the 23-year-old.

The Reds are currently in America on their pre-season tour, where they have matches against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Tottenham are ahead of Newcastle in the race for Wolves star Pedro Neto as he’s attracted by the prospect of Europa League football according to reports.

Spurs are looking to strengthen a squad which missed out on Champions League football last season and have added talented teenager Archie Gray to their ranks from Leeds, whilst they have also extended Timo Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are known to be looking for more attacking reinforcements and have identified Neto as a target.

Tottenham ahead of Newcastle in the race for Neto

Neto has been one of Wolves’ best players over the years, but injury issues limited him to 24 appearances in all competitions last season, and he scored three goals and provided 11 assists.

Wolves know they are likely going to have to sell one or more of their key players this summer, but having sold Max Kilman to West Ham in a deal worth £40m they may not be under as much pressure to part ways with Neto.

The 24-year-old can now fully focus on his future following Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2024 and is attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Pedro Neto in action for Wolves.
Tottenham and Newcastle are two of the Premier League clubs interested in Neto.

GIVEMESPORT report that Spurs have the edge over Newcastle in the race for the Portugal international because they can offer Europa League football, whilst the opportunity to live in London is also thought to be attractive.

The report adds that two other Premier League clubs have been made aware of Neto’s availability and could make a move before the season starts.

GIVEMESPORT state that Neto’s agent Jorge Mendes could look to create a bidding war for his client amongst potential suitors.

Wolves are thought to value the Portuguese at around £60m and it’s likely any opening bid from Tottenham would be below that mark as they look to test the waters.

Spurs are also thought to be interested in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and it would seem unlikely they would go in for both players, so they will seemingly have a decision to make.

Wilfried Zaha could be set for a return to the Premier League this summer with Galatasaray prepared to sell the winger according to reports.

Special Offer for England Fans – Get Fabrizio Romano’s Premium Transfer Newsletter FREE for a YEAR (normally £60)!

Zaha left Crystal Palace last summer and joined the Turkish giants on a free transfer, where he signed a three deal and earns a reported £300,000 per week.

The 31-year-old performed well last season as me made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring ten goals and providing five assists as Galatasaray won the Turkish title.

Zaha could return to the Premier League this summer

The Daily Mirror report that the Turkish club could be willing to let the former Palace man leave for a cut price deal as they can no longer afford his wages due to the current financial situation at the club.

The report adds that officials at Galatasaray have told Palace and other Premier League sides that Zaha is available and officially on the market.

Wilfried Zaha in action for Galatasaray.
Zaha could be in line for a shock return to the Premier League this summer.

Palace along with Wolves and West Ham are believed to be the three English clubs interested in a potential move, but Zaha would have to take a drop in wages to secure a move to any of those clubs.

The Daily Mirror adds that if Zaha doesn’t want to take a pay cut Galatasaray could opt to pay him off and he would then be able to leave for free.

It’s unclear how interested Oliver Glasner would be in bringing Zaha back to Selhurst Park, but with Michael Olise seemingly Bayern Munich bound and a host of clubs interested in England international Eberechi Eze, a return to the Eagles would certainly be a crowd pleaser.

Palace have boosted their attacking options this summer already with the addition of attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada on a free transfer from Serie A side Lazio.

The Eagles will also be desperate to keep hold of Marc Guehi who is starring for England at Euro 2024, and Palace have reportedly set an asking price in the region of £65m.

Inside Spain is a weekly instalment brought to you by Football España, providing an insight into all of the major stories coming out of the rich and intense climes of La Liga and beyond.

The big occasion in Spain was of course the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, which saw Real Madrid and Manchester City grind to half-time level, despite plenty of effort. Los Blancos have reasons for pessimism, but there is a positive mood at the Santiago Bernabeu.

For a start, Karim Benzema, Rodrygo Goes and David Alaba all missed training on Friday, and are set to miss their Saturday night clash with Getafe. ‘We hope to get them back’, said Carlo Ancelotti speaking of the Manchester City return leg, and admittedly did not seem overly worried. The Italian manager will have to reckon with beating Pep Guardiola on his own patch, not being able to count on home advantage in the second leg like last year. Yet after their match on Tuesday night, the message coming out of the dressing was one of confidence – this lot are not better than us.

Sevilla will have come away from their 1-1 Europa League draw in Turin thinking the exact same about Juventus, having controlled most of the match until the final attack of the game. Youssef En-Nesyri’s opener was cancelled out by Federico Gatti, but Los Nervionenses can feel content with their chances at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Atletico Madrid are looking to maintain second place, but Jan Oblak continues to be absent with a neck injury that has not yet receded after three weeks. Neighbours Getafe were in the news too this week though. After former Watford coach Quique Sanchez Flores was sacked two weeks ago, he raged against a club and a President that were previously beloved to him, calling them ‘not a serious club’, and hinting they were making decisions based on social media.

Meanwhile Barcelona are preparing for the title celebrations with a summer of discontent ahead. Xavi Hernandez is set to tell Ansu Fati he is no longer needed next season after the title is won – they can do so with a win at rivals Espanyol on Sunday. He also received bad news this week though. On various occasions he has reportedly told Barcelona that he does not want Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, yet President Joan Laporta is forging ahead with negotiations anyway. It appears agent Jorge Mendes, who has very close links with Barcelona and Laporta, has even more power than Xavi.

Raúl Jiménez is in the recovery process as he attempts to return to the Wolverhampton Wanderers lineup after suffering a significant head injury.

As the 2020-21 season nears its end, Jiménez might not be able to suit up for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side. Diario AS relayed the comments of the Wolves gaffer concerning Jiménez’s summer as the 29-year-old has the opportunity to play in international competitions for Mexico.

One competition that the Latin American country would want to have Jiménez for their Mexican squad will compete in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. However, Santo is putting the breaks on that idea as he stated that Jiménez must first suit up for Wolves before thinking of any international competition.

“As soon as it is clear that he can play for Wolves, anything can happen, but he must first play for us,” Santo said. “With all due respect to the coach of his team, it is our decision. I understand that he is positive and wants to have Raúl for the Olympics, but we have to be patient here.”

The Portuguese tactician added that the final decision comes down to Wolves and how they’re seeing the player progress in his rehabilitation. If Jiménez doesn’t see any action for Wolves this season, it would be not easy to see them allowing their striker to compete without first seeing him up close.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC striker Raúl Jiménez is continuing his rehab to make his way back to the pitch.

However, after their fixture against Liverpool FC, Wolves won’t play until April 3rd. As a result, manager Nuno has made it known that Jiménez will join the Mexico national football team for the FIFA international break as part of the 29-year-old’s recovery. The striker has been out of action since last November after a head injury.

Premier Leagues had issues with their South American players to countries with surging coronavirus cases; however, Mexico will be playing its two friendlies in Europe. The first fixture will be against Wales in Cardiff City; meanwhile, their second match will occur in Austria versus Costa Rica.

Wolves manager Nuno spoke to the club’s official website to discuss the reasoning behind allowing Jiménez to participate in the friendlies during the FIFA break.

“Now with the international break, we’ve been talking with Mexico, and we think it will be good for him to join the Mexico squad, to see his friends because the national team is a big part of his life,” Nuno said. “The many friends that he has are there, so it will be good for him. We are now trying to figure out the best way to do that, but he will be involved during the week or something like that, then he will return.”

“We’ve been talking with doctors, and I’ve already spoken with Raul about that, and he feels comfortable, and we truly believe that it will be good. “But we are taking these steps on Raul very carefully, and we have to make it work without mistakes. But the idea is for him to join the Mexico squad in Wales, and always with the intention to bring him back in the best way possible.”

The next step for the Mexico international in his recovery will be to return to Premier League, which seems to be inching closer.

The FA published the official squad on Thursday May 20 – with the tournament set to kick off in the Czech Republic on 15 June to 30 June.

The most high-profile names not including are Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

Shaw had been involved in a club-versus-country row [via the Daily Mail] over whether he should take part in the competition, as Louis van Gaal had reservations over the 19-year-old competing having struggled with injury for most of the season. The Dutchman will therefore be pleased with the FA’s confirmation of the U21 squad, with the defender able to rest in the summer.

Here’s the provisional squad in full:

It’s sure to be an action-packed final day in the Championship, with four teams still gunning for a playoff spot.

Check out all the analysis below!

MIDDLESBROUGH

Aitor Karanka’s side has already qualified for the playoffs but will be wanting to grab all three points against 20th-placed Brighton on the final day to secure third place.

Fourth-placed Norwich City play host to Fulham on Saturday in what is a very winnable game for the Canaries and could jump into third if Middlesbrough are to slip up at home.

On-loan striker Patrick Bamford will be vital for Boro in the playoff after having netted 17 goals in the Championship this season and was named Championship Player of the Year at the Football League Awards.

Middlesborough suffered a shock 4-3 loss to Fulham last time out and it remains to be seen if the loss has dented the side’s confidence heading into the playoffs.

Karanka has proven himself to be a shrewd manager and there’s no doubt Middlesbrough have the quality to get back into the Premier League.

NORWICH CITY

Outside of the already promoted top two, the Canaries are the form side leading into the playoffs having picked up 13 points in its last six games.

However, its loss to promotion rivals Middlesbrough a fortnight ago could prove to be costly with the Boro sitting just a point above them in third.

Alex Neil will be backing his side to get the three points at home to Fulham on Saturday and a slip up by Middlesbrough could see Norwich jump up into third position heading into the playoffs.

Cameron Jerome will be pivotal in the playoffs following his 18 goal season so far, while Nathan Redmond will be heavily relied upon in a creative sense.

Can they bounce back into the Premier League?

Middlesbrough are still favourites, but it would be no surprise to see bright yellow shirts of Norwich back in the top flight next season.

Neil Redfearn remained in the dugout for the game, despite questions lingering over his future with the Yorkshire club, but he would not have been pleased with the scrappy start made by his players. Nevertheless, it was his side that took a surprise lead.

Academy graduate, Charlie Taylor cashed in, after Kevin McDonald’s attempted clearance cannoned off teammate Richard Stearman, and into the 21-year-old’s path. He had the simple task of tucking the ball past Carl Ikeme from six yards out.

But the home side needed only eight minutes to level things up. Nouha Dicko managed to squeeze home from an incredibly acute angle after an exciting move put the Leeds defence under pressure.

After a fairly disappointing first half, you would imagine Redfearn was looking forward to getting his team in at half-time whilst they were level, and reminding them of the excellent football they had played to take them away from the relegation zone. However, Dicko forced a change of plan.

The 22-year-old bagged his twelfth goal of the season moments before the interval with a smashing effort. Questions however, could be asked of Whites goalkeeper, Marco Silvestri, who left his near post largely unguarded.

It appeared that the game was over when former Arsenal youngster Benik Afobe added a third three minutes into the second half. After the 3-0 defeat to Blackburn last time out – as well the recent off-field issues – it appeared Leeds’s awful week was about to be prolonged.

But they were provided with a glimmer of hope, when Wolves skipper, Danny Batth stabbed the ball past Ikeme from an Alex Mowatt cross just after the hour mark.

And it was Mowatt who then levelled the game with just over fifteen minutes to go with the best goal of the match. The midfielder curled a wonderful effort from outside the box, and somehow Leeds were level, and looking like they may steal a point.

But it was cruelly not to be, as McDonald atoned for his error for the Taylor goal with a dangerous cross that found Edwards. The midfielder leapt and placed an exquisite header into the top corner, sending Jackett’s men back into the top six.
