As the transfer market begins to heat up, CaughtOffside sources understand that Spanish top-flight team, Villarreal, are looking to plunder Premier League outfit, Wolverhampton Wanders, for two of their players.

Coach of the Yellow Submarine, Marcelino, is believed to be specifically targeting a striker and a winger, with the latter also able to operate as a second striker when needed.

That is seemingly what’s led to the interest in Wolverhampton’s 27-year-old Portuguese player, Goncalo Guedes, who as AS report was once a target for Catalan giants, Barcelona.

Premier League club Wolves set to lose two

CaughtOffside sources indicate that the Midlands-based side have set a reasonable price tag of around €20m for Guedes, though manager, Gary O’Neil, hopes to begin the 2024/25 Premier League season with the Portuguese still part of his squad.

It’s understood too that Marcelino is running the rule over 23-year-old Colombian defender, Yerson Mosquera, who Wolves have yet to place a value on, simply because O’Neil can’t countenance the thought of losing him.

Molineux Stadium, home of Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers

Villarreal would test the waters with an opening offer of €9m says sources.

Though losing either player is clearly going to impact on Wolves’ ambitions, if they’re able to bring in a decent amount in transfer funds, it would allow O’Neil to go on a late window spending spree, where there’s likely to be a few bargains to be had.

With almost a month left of the summer window, that would still give the manager a chance to bring new faces into the side without upsetting the team dynamic and dressing room equilibrium.

Transfer deadline day is always exciting for the fans, however, last-minute captures for clubs – some two weeks after the season has started – can rarely be considered good business, particularly if a club has been using the same system and personnel for the majority of pre-season.

Support Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing – Every morning I will round up the most important news in football, providing you with exclusive insight, inside stories and everything you need to know for the day ahead.

Al-Khaleej

Understand Saudi side Al-Khaleej have now made an approach to sign Bruno Costa from Porto. Discussions remain ongoing for the Portuguese midfielder

Al-Khaleej also approached Isco few days ago but the former Real Madrid man has turned down this possibility.

Arsenal

Arsenal wanted Mykhaylo Mudryk as a priority, but they feel they did their best by making a huge bid. Arsenal have been clear in the last two years: no bidding wars, respecting the club’s strategy, and no panic as with Dusan Vlahovic, Raphinha, Lisandro Martinez. This is their way, and it’s working well for them. Mikel Arteta and Edu have made several superb signings and this team is enjoying an incredible season, now eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

I’ve never doubted that this Arsenal side can be serious title contenders, and they are now the favourites. I see something special in this squad and I keep saying the same – for sure Manchester City have the better and deeper squad, but Arsenal are incredible, the team is amazing.

As for signings in attack, this week Arsenal will decide on the strategy after Mudryk. There are no concrete talks for any of the players mentioned yet; of course agents and intermediaries are offering solutions, Arsenal will take their time. On Raphinha, I’m told he’d really love to stay at Barcelona as priority – we’ll see if it changes this week.

Mikel Arteta on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea: “We’ve excellent players. We want to improve our squad in this transfer window and I mean myself, the staff, players, the board, and ownership. We’re on it but we will do the deals that we can do and that we believe is right for the club.”

Mikel Arteta on Gabriel Jesus’ return: “Hopefully we will have Gabriel back for the final months, it was a serious injury a bit longer than we expected it. He is gonna to do everything he can to make it shorter but we’ll miss him for a while.”

Confirmed: Arsenal third-choice goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo leaves Crewe to join Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz on loan until the end of the season. The deal was completed yesterday after medical tests.

Barcelona

Raphinha sends clear message: “This is my first trophy with this giant club, this enormous shirt of FC Barcelona — it’s incredible. And so now we go for more trophies.”

Further talks have been scheduled between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Memphis Depay. No doubts on the player side as Memphis wants the move and he’s set to leave Barca in January, as reported yesterday. Atletico want to anticipate English clubs on Memphis deal.

Chelsea

Graham Potter on Mykhaylo Mudryk deal: “Mykhaylo is a young player with exciting quality in the final third. He is very fast and direct, I like him. I think the crowd will like him!”

Mykhaylo Mudryk: “I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea. This is a huge club, Premier League is fantastic league and it’s a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. I’m excited to meet my team-mates and I’m looking forward to working under Graham Potter.”

Noni Madueke started for PSV yesterday as Chelsea discussions took place during the week but there’s nothing agreed between the two clubs at this stage.

Everton

Everton have offered Anthony Gordon a new deal, let’s see how talks will go in the next months. Chelsea have decided to invest in Mykhaylo Mudryk so they’re not in talks to sign Gordon now. Tottenham monitored him in the last few months but they now feel they need different players as a priority.

Fiorentina

Fiorentina CEO Joe Barone: “I can now confirm that Sofyan Amrabat and Nico Gonzalez are not for sale. The president Commisso already said that — I can confirm the same for both Gonzalez and Amrabat.”

Leeds United

Azzedine Ounahi deal. Leeds have to decide how to proceed with signings after spending big money on Georginio Rutter. The deal is not dead, but other clubs are also moving.

The next week is expected to be key — as Napoli have offered €15m to Angers one week ago.

Liverpool

As reported and as also mentioned here multiple times, I expect Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both have very good chances of leaving Liverpool in June, at the moment new deal talks are very quiet.

Manchester United

I don’t see Manchester United selling important players, the season is still long and so they will make decisions on Facundo PellistriAnthony Elanga but I don’t see Scott McTominay leaving as of now. Newcastle have many midfielders in the list, but no one is close yet.

Newcastle United

Newcastle have a number of midfield players on their list of targets, but none are close to joining at the moment. Despite links with Scott McTominay, I don’t expect him to leave Manchester United this January.

Nottingham Forest

Understand Danilo is expected to land in England imminently in order to undergo medical tests and sign his contract as a new Nottingham Forest player. Palmeiras will receive €20m fee, it will be permanent transfer as reported earlier.

Poland

Talks between Steven Gerrard and the Poland national team are ongoing. Waiting for his final decision but it’s being considered, as reported by Polish press earlier in the week. Polish FA will speak again to Gerrard in order to proceed with discussions.

Southampton

I mentioned in the summer that James Ward-Prowse was attracting interest from West Ham. However, Southampton want to keep him now, this is very clear; we will see in the summer, it’s really difficult to predict summer moves now… it depends on managers, directors, many factors.

Wolves

Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes will fly to England in the next hours in order to undergo medical tests and sign as new Wolverhampton player. Here we go, it’s confirmed. Wolves will pay €17m to Flamengo — also Pablo Sarabia deal will be sealed next week.

Goncalo Guedes future is open as Wolves coach Julen Lopetegui confirms he left him out because of “tactical decision”. Lopetegui also says “Goncalo is our player” but added “anything can happen” in the market when asked about his future.

Liverpool goalkeeper is one of the best goalkeepers in the world but he has just produced one of the worst howlers you will see this season.

The home side started off well but it is Wolves who have taken an early lead after goalkeeper Alisson passed it straight to Guedes who had the simplest of task to put it back in the net.

The home side who are without their star defender Virgil Van Dijk have looked shaky at the back. Thiago lost the ball first but quickly recovered to pass it back to the goalkeeper who then went on to make the uncharacteristic mistake.

Liverpool have plenty of time to bounce back but given their recent form, fans can expect a tense game.

Watch the mistake below:

Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Wolves forward Pedro Neto.

Arsenal have held a long-term interest in Portuguese star Neto, according to Football.London. The tricky forward struggled with injuries last season, but his impressive form over the last few years has led to interest from clubs such as Arsenal.

Following Arsenal’s opening day victory over Crystal Palace, Mikel Arteta expressed his desire to continue to bring in more players before the end of the transfer window.

“We are going to try and bring in more players,” said Arteta, as relayed by the Daily Mail.

Now, Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Neto, with Wolves closing in on signing Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes, according to Tribuna Deportivo (via the Express).

Neto would provide Arteta with some competition in forward positions, and with five substitutions now introduced in the Premier League, the Portuguese international should receive an adequate amount of game time.

The 22-year-old is yet to reach his full potential, and can play in multiple positions across the front line.

With Arsenal competing in European competitions this season, Neto may be tempted with a move to express himself at the highest level.

Wolves are on the verge of announcing Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes as their next new signing.

The Midlands side, led by highly-rated tactician Bruno Lage, have already made two signings during this summer’s transfer window.

Nathan Collins joined from Burnley for a fee of around £22m and Hee-chan Hwang completed a permanent switch from RB Leipzig in a deal worth approximately £15m (figures as per Transfermarkt).

Now, the latest name set to move to Molineux is reportedly going to be Guedes after the player’s Spanish side and Lage’s Wolves agreed on a deal worth an initial £27m (€32m).

That’s according to leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has claimed the talented winger is set to undergo his medical on Monday.

Destined for the Premier League, the 25-year-old wide-attacker, who has Portuguese nationality, will join a whole host of compatriots at his new club, including veteran midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Since joining Valencia’s senior first team back in 2017, although initially loaned out to PSG for a season, Guedes, who returned to the Mestalla in 2018, has gone on to directly contribute to 66 goals in 177 appearances, in all competitions.

Arsenal

Arsenal have received a new offer for defender Pablo Mari. Hellas Verona are offering a permanent deal, whereas Monza are pushing to sign Mari on loan with an obligation to buy. A decision is expected soon, but Mari will 100% leave Arsenal this summer.

Barcelona

A deal for Marcos Alonso looks closer, with Thomas Tuchel confirming the player has asked to leave after he wasn’t involved in the squad to face Everton: “Yes, Marcos asked to leave and we agreed to this. It would make no sense to put him on the pitch today.”

Bayern Munich

Exclusive: Here’s my current understanding of the Leroy Sane situation as he’s linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Boca Juniors

Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is edging closer to a move to Boca Juniors. Negotiations over the deal in key stages now, with a possible threat from Villarreal, though there’s nothing going on with Borussia Dortmund.

Bournemouth

Here’s my exclusive video of Barcelona goalkeeper Neto arriving in England ahead of completing a move to Bournemouth:

Bournemouth have reached full agreement with Marcos Senesi on personal terms. Work is in progress to come to an agreement with Feyenoord.

Brentford

Brentford have reached an agreement with Atalanta midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard on personal terms. Damsgaard will fly to England next week to undergo his medical, with a deal close to completion for around €15m. Having failed to keep hold of Christian Eriksen this summer, this looks like a smart piece of business by Brentford to bring in an alternative in that area of the pitch.

Chelsea have submitted a new £70m offer for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. The bid was rejected by Leicester, with Brendan Rodgers insisting he is not for sale this summer. Fofana is interested in the move, and Chelsea are determined to get their man.

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Marcos Alonso was left out of his squad to face Everton because he’s asked to leave: “Yes, Marcos asked to leave and we agreed to this. It would make no sense to put him on the pitch today.”

Everton

Amadou Onana is in England to undergo medical tests this morning as a new Everton player. Full agreement has been reached with Lille for a fee of €36m plus €4m in add-ons.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is Everton’s next move, with a deal close to completion.

Galatasaray

Dries Mertens and Lucas Torreira were in Istanbul last night to complete moves to Galatasaray. Torreira has signed his contract and Mertens has also accepted his proposal.

Juventus

Juventus are in direct contact with Eintracht Frankfurt over the transfer of Filip Kostic. West Ham are aware that Kostic’s priority is to join Juventus as soon as possible. Full agreement has been reached on personal terms between Juventus and Kostic.

Manchester City

Exclusive: Keep an eye on this potential €65million signing if Bernardo Silva ends up leaving Man City.

Manchester United

RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig director will meet with Benjamin Sesko’s agent to discuss a potential move. It won’t be an easy deal, with Manchester United and Chelsea both interested.

Tottenham

Full agreement has been reached on personal terms with Udinese full-back Destiny Udogie, for a five-year deal. A deal is expected to be completed with Udinese next week, and Udogie could be loaned back to the Italian club. This looks a potentially intriguing signing for Spurs, with Fabio Paratici’s connections in Serie A looking like being a real asset.

Valencia

Goncalo Guedes is set to leave Valencia, according to manager Gennaro Gattuso: “The club told me they’ve received a huge proposal for Guedes from a Premier League club.”

West Ham

West Ham could now miss out on Filip Kostic, who is looking to join Juventus as soon as possible, with full agreement on personal terms reached.

Wolves have had a bid accepted for Valencia’s Portuguese star Goncalo Guedes as Bruno Lage looks to ramp up his squad depth ahead of a gruelling season.

That’s according to Hector Gomez, who believes that the side from the Black Country will pay a fee of around £25.3m upfront for his services, with an extra £5m in add-ons should he reach the clauses set out in his contract.

Guedes, who burst onto the scene at Benfica aged just 17, starred at the Estadio Da Luz by contributing to three consecutive Primeira Liga titles, alongside two League Cup and one Taca de Portugal title.

His exploits earned him a move to PSG in January 2017 for £25m after reportedly beating Manchester United to his signature, as per Eurosport.

However, despite failing to break through to the first team at the Parc des Princes, Guedes was shifted to Valencia for £32m after his initial loan spell at the Mestalla went swimmingly.

Bruno Lage’s men lost in their opening day clash against Leeds United on Saturday.

But with the club in financial trouble, funds may be raised this summer in the form of player sales at the east coast side, and that seems to be including Guedes – with Wolves adding to their Portuguese contingent with one of the national team’s most exciting stars.

No less than 10 Portuguese stars are currently at the club, alongside manager Bruno Lage who has done wonders at Molineux on a small budget.

This summer is set to be another tough one for Valencia and their fans as the La Liga side looks to sell players and bring in low-cost replacements.

According to Todofichajes, four of Valencia’s best players Goncalo Guedes, Carlos Soler, Maxi Gomez and Jose Gayá will depart this summer and Los Murciélagos hopes that this will add more than €70million in profit, which will help to clean up their accounts.

Valencia have been run badly under the ownership of Peter Lim and are miles away from where the club should be. Fans of the side held a massive protest during their last match of the season as they are fed up with watching this great club continue to suffer.

The mass exodus of players comes as good news to interested parties as they will be able to recruit cheaply. In Spain, Gaya has been long linked with a move to Barcelona to be the replacement for the ageing Jordi Alba reports SPORT, whilst the others have interest from England.

Guedes is a target for Wolves reports the Telegraph as the Portuguese player’s agent is Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to Molineux. Whilst Soler is being watched by Liverpool states the Express who ran a story on the links.

It’s a really sad situation Valencia finds themselves in but their pain is clearly the gain of other European clubs.
