Tottenham outcast Emerson Royal is all set to complete his move to AC Milan.

Emerson Royal’s future has been the talk of the town throughout the summer. AC Milan have been working very hard to strike a deal with Tottenham for the Brazilian full-back and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the transfer saga has finally come to an end as Spurs have completed the paperwork for his departure.

While Emerson was an important part of their first team following his arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, he went down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. Last season, he could only manage 24 appearances and the majority of those came because of an injury crisis at the back.

He still has two years left on his deal at the North London club but they have been looking to cash in on him throughout the transfer window. AC Milan are well aware of his situation at Tottenham and they have been looking to strike a deal for a cut-price fee. Negotiations with the Premier League outfit were not easy as Daniel Levy was not ready to lower his demands.

Emerson Royal would be a quality addition

But, in the end, the Italian giants have an agreement in place for Emerson’s transfer. They have agreed to pay €15 million plus bonuses to sign the South American utility man who can feature on both flanks as well as a centre-back when needed.

The 25-year-old is set to be a Milan player in the 2024/25 season with a deal now closed. Both clubs have signed the documents related to the transfer. Tottenham have given Emerson the green light to travel to Italy and undergo his medical before being officially presented as a new AC Milan player.

As per Di Marzio, “the operation is closing and the ok should arrive between today, Thursday 8 August, and Friday, 9 August.”

Letting Emerson Royal leave the club makes sense as the player has fallen down in the pecking order at the Tottenham Stadium.

Pedro Porro is the club’s first choice right-back and considering how he has played, Emerson Royal or any other player is not getting into the team ahead of Porro.

Spurs have the option of Djed Spence as well now while Archie Gray is someone who can also play in that position, making it difficult for Emerson Royal to make a place for himself in the starting line up.

They could still sign a new right-back but their priority after selling Emerson Royal should be signing a new attacker and strengthening their front line.

AC Milan have had fresh contact with Tottenham over the transfer of Emerson Royal, but the two clubs still haven’t agreed a fee according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Serie A side have reportedly already agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old, but so far they haven’t been prepared to meet Tottenham’s valuation.

Spurs are open to selling a number of players this summer, with midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg recently joining Marseille, and Royal could be next to follow him out the exit door at the north London club.

Milan and Spurs still in talks over Royal

Milan are in the market for a right back this summer and have identified the Brazilian as a player they want, but negotiations reportedly went cold earlier this month with Spurs still wanting more than €20m for the former Barcelona man.

However, Romano has provided an update on the situation and reported that fresh contact has taken place between the two clubs as they look to come to an agreement.

He took to X.com and said:

“AC Milan had new contacts with Tottenham for Emerson Royal. There’s still almost €3m difference between fee offered and proposal received. Personal terms agreed in May, talks still ongoing between the two clubs.”

The Brazilian made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, with 22 of those coming in the Premier League, and if he were to leave then Spurs would need to find a replacement to act as back up for Pedro Porro.

Royal joined Spurs from Spanish giants Barcelona back in 2021 and still has two years remaining on his deal having signed a five year contract with the club.

It would seem likely that an agreement will eventually be reached given both clubs are back in talks, and a switch to the San Siro would see Royal play Champions League football next season.

AC Milan are set to re-start transfer talks with Tottenham over Emerson Royal as they’re prepared to walk away from a potential deal to sign Aston Villa full-back Matty Cash.

Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Cash has been a target for Milan this summer, though Villa’s asking price of €35-40m for the Poland international is deemed too high for the Serie A giants.

Royal was also looked at by Milan earlier in the summer and he remains an option on their radar, with the Brazilian also keen to leave Spurs for a move to the San Siro, CaughtOffside understands.

Cash transfer: Villa will want to avoid further big-name sales

Keeping hold of Cash looks like a boost for Villa as they will no doubt have been keen to avoid losing more big names after the departure of Douglas Luiz earlier this summer.

The Brazilian midfielder was a star player for Unai Emery’s side last season but has left to join Juventus, while it also looks like Moussa Diaby is closing in on leaving Villa Park for Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad.

Losing Cash would have been another big blow for AVFC, but Royal is not as important a player for Tottenham, so this certainly looks like a more realistic target for Milan as they look to strengthen on that right-hand side of their defence.

Emerson’s move to AC Milan on standby

AC Milan are in the market for a right back this summer and have identified Royal as a target, with Spurs said to want more than €20m for the Brazilian.

The north London club are said to have rejected two approaches from the Serie A outfit and Romano has now provided an update on the situation.

He took to X.com and said:

“Negotiations have gone cold after Spurs rejecting two approaches and still asking for more than €20m fee.

“Milan and Spurs are not advancing, at this stage.”

Reports in Italy have suggested that Milan are looking at alternative targets and have enquired about Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Manchester City’s Issa Kabore.

With Tottenham seemingly unprepared to budge on their valuation, and Milan also not prepared to go above what they believe Royal is worth, a deal for the Brazil international is currently not progressing.

Royal joined Spurs from Spanish giants Barcelona in 2021 and he currently has two years remaining on his deal having signed a five year contract following his move to the club.

Spurs are clearly happy to move the Brazilian on if their valuation is met, but if a move to AC Milan fails to materialise, it will be interesting to see if he remains in north London, or whether any new suitors come in.

Borussia Dortmund need to convince Emerson Royal

It will be interesting to see if the German giants can agree on personal terms with the defender now. The 25-year-old Brazilian has proven his quality in La Liga and in the Premier League. He has the attributes to thrive in the Bundesliga as well. He is versatile enough to operate as the right back as well as the left back. He could be an asset for the German club if they can get the deal done.

The defender is entering the peak years of his career and signing him for €20 million in today’s market could prove to be a bargain.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be hoping to improve their squad this summer and they will hope to get rid of the fringe players quickly. Selling Emerson for €20 million will allow them to improve their squad as well. It will be interesting to see whether the Brazilian defender is open to moving to the Bundesliga with Dortmund.

Emerson Royal would improve AC Milan

The 25-year-old has been a useful squad player for Tottenham and he should prove to be a quality addition to the AC Milan defence as well. He is not a regular starter for the North London club and he needed to leave in search of regular playing time. It remains to be seen whether he can establish himself as a regular starter for the Italian outfit.

Emerson is versatile enough to operate on both flanks as the full back, and he could be an asset for Milan if he manages to adapt to Italian football quickly and hit the ground running. Further more, he has the quality and the experience to justify the €20 million investment as well. The Brazilian defender has shown his quality in La Liga and in the Premier League over the years. He has the ability to shine in Serie A as well.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to bring in a quality replacement for him in the remaining weeks of the transfer window. They will need a capable backup option to Pedro Porro, who is currently the first choice right back at the club.

Zirkzee, Van de Beek and De Ligt latest at Manchester United

Manchester United are set to sell Donny van de Beek to Girona. The Dutch midfielder was also a target for Girona back in the January transfer window, but it wasn’t possible at that time as he decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan. However, Girona are still there and have now agreed a deal with Manchester United.

Many of you have been asking me about the strange structure of this deal, because it’s been reported that the initial fee will be just €500,000. This would obviously be an incredibly cheap fee for Van de Beek, but the reality is different.

For now, this is a potential fee as it’s still subject to a personal agreement with Van de Beek and on the player passing a medical. Girona have an agreement with Man United but there are still some steps, and early next week we should know more. As for the fee, it is €500k initially, but there is a big structure of add-ons. There would be around €4-5m paid to Man United if Van de Beek plays a certain number of games, and this is expected to be quite an easy number. If he achieves more in his time at Girona it could even end up being around €10-15m.

Staying with Dutch players and Man United, I can confirm that Joshua Zirkzee remains an important target, he’s high on their list. Between Friday and Saturday there were new contacts between United and the agents of Zirkzee. So, what’s the situation? We know Zirkzee has been on United’s list and that the €40m release clause is there – it’s valid until August, so United have time, but the internal decision will be crucial.

United are now advancing in talks with Zirkzee and his agent. Zirkzee already reached an agreement with AC Milan, and Man United would match that proposal with similar numbers, but Milan don’t want to pay the big commission, while United are prepared to meet that number.

Erik ten Hag wants the player and has been calling Zirkzee on a regular basis, but then other key figures at Old Trafford will also have to decide, such as key figures deciding on transfers like Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell. So, the internal discussion is ongoing, and it’s up to them now to decide if they want to proceed with Zirkzee or go for another player.

Finally on United, negotiations continue for Matthijs de Ligt between all parties involved. There’s still no substantial update but negotiations are ongoing, and going well. De Ligt has only approved Man United as the club are in talks with his agent, I’m not aware of contacts with any other clubs now, despite some rumours about PSG.

Juventus to start Teun Koopmeiners talks with Atalanta soon

Despite some rumours about Liverpool entering the race for Teun Koopmeiners, my information is that the only club in negotiations for the Atalanta midfielder right now is Juventus. Of course it could change and we’ll see what happens in the next days, but Juventus have agreed terms with Koopmeiners, and he seems keen on staying in Serie A.

Everything is agreed on the player side, and so now Juventus have to reach an agreement with Atalanta. Talks will start very soon after Juve already signed Khephren Thuram, which should be announced in the next days, while Douglas Luiz has also been confirmed as joining in another exciting move to strengthen the Juve midfield.

Juventus are working on it with Koopmeiners, and we’re just waiting now for their first bid to Atalanta, which should come really soon.

Al Ittihad chaos casts doubt over Kevin De Bruyne transfer

We’ve had more Kevin De Bruyne Saudi rumours again, with some reports over the weekend about the Manchester City playmaker possibly becoming an Al Ittihad player, but my understanding is that nothing is close or imminent as of today.

The situation at Al Ittihad is really complicated at the moment, and it’s possible that their move to hire Stefano Pioli as manager will collapse, while the president could also leave the club. It’s a confusing situation at the club, and so they are not advancing for De Bruyne, as you can imagine. It’s not something happening today, maybe later in the summer, as we know interest from Saudi in De Bruyne has been there for some time, but it’s not close to happening now.

De Bruyne is now on holiday after the Euros and he still has one year left on his contract at Manchester City. As for Al Ittihad, we’ll have to see what happens later on in the summer because right now the situation has become very complicated and confusing.

Chelsea close in on Veiga, but what about Omorodion?

Renato Veiga is on his way to Chelsea in a €14-15m move from FC Basel. He’s seen as someone who can play centre-back, left-back or defensive midfield, so he covers a lot of positions. Chelsea see Veiga as a talent with huge potential, and available for a cheap price. He’s the perfect profile for what they wanted and needed. There are no add-ons or sell-on because Chelsea preferred to agree on €14m fixed fee believing it was a good deal for them. Now the priorities for Chelsea on the market will be a right-footed winger, and a new central striker.

Samu Omorodion remains one of the names appreciated by Chelsea for the striker position this summer. Omorodion is a player they like, as I reported 20 days ago when Chelsea had a bid rejected by Atletico Madrid. For now it remains the case that Atletico don’t want to sell Omorodion, but Chelsea are still keeping contacts active with those close to the player.

In case Atletico change their stance on Omorodion later in the transfer window, Chelsea could then have a chance to contact the Spanish club about this talented young striker again. It’s not guaranteed, because Omorodion is very happy in Madrid and Atletico don’t want to sell, but in case the situation changes, Chelsea still appreciate the player and will hope the door can perhaps open for them at some point.

Let’s see what happens, but for sure Chelsea really rate Omorodion as a player with big potential, so they’re keeping a close eye on his situation, but let me also say that he’s not the only name on their list for the striker position. It’s not guaranteed that Chelsea will make a move for a new signing in that position as we’ll have to see how players like Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu perform in pre-season, but for sure Omorodion is a player they appreciate.

There have been some reports about Barcelona looking to re-sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham as he could be on the move out of Spurs this summer.

However, I don’t have this information about Barca. As previously reported, AC Milan are in talks for Emerson – they already spoke to Tottenham but Spurs want around €20m to sell the Brazilian full-back

There’s still a gap in valuation, so let’s see what happens, but Emerson himself is keen on the move to AC Milan.
