Newcastle United’s initial bid worth €15 million has been rejected by Barcelona and the Magpies could return with a revised offer for Ferran Torres.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have been quite busy in the ongoing transfer window. They have already made a lot of additions to their squad but there is still work to be done as we head into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

The Magpies want more firepower in their attack and they are interested in the services of Ferran Torres. According to a report from Fichajes, Newcastle’s initial offer of €15 million plus add-ons for the Spanish international has been rejected by Barcelona. But, the Magpies haven’t given up yet and they could return with a revised offer in the near future.

The Catalan giants forked out a massive €55 million to sign Torres from Manchester City in the winter of 2022. While he has done a decent job for them, the former Valencia graduate hasn’t been able to establish himself as a mainstay in the team. The Spanish winger still has three years left on his deal at Barcelona but he is not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans moving ahead. As a result, they are ready to cash in on the 24-year-old.

The Spanish giants are not in the best of financial situation and his departure could help them raise a decent amount of funds which can be reinvested into their squad. Barcelona have set an asking price of €30 million for Torres as they look to recoup a part of what they had invested to bring him to Camp Nou.

Newcastle looking at attacking reinforcements

Newcastle did consider pushing for the services of Raphinha but the former Manchester City winger is a much cheaper alternative for them. More importantly, he is well capable of featuring anywhere in the attack. His arrival will add depth to the flanks and provide cover for their star striker Alexander Isak. While Barcelona have rejected Newcastle’s €15 million plus add-ons offer, the Magpies haven’t given up on the chase and could return with a revised offer before the end of the window.

Newcastle’s lack of European football might well count against them in the current transfer window, particularly if they’re trying to attract players of Champions League calibre.

The Magpies themselves were in the top tier competition only last season, but a drop off in form and a series of injuries curtailed their progress both domestically and in Europe.

Eddie Howe and his backroom staff will surely be looking for the formula which ensures their regulars spend more time on the pitch in 2024/25, and a complete lack of continental commitments could well work in their favour.

With that in mind, finishing lower than the top four in the upcoming season can’t be countenanced and surely won’t be acceptable to owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

In order to give themselves the best chance of doing that, and hitting the ground running at the start of the campaign, Newcastle need to bring in one or two more quality additions.

Newcastle have bid for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres

According to Fichajes, the club have put in a €30m bid for Barcelona’s exciting forward, Ferran Torres.

Fresh from winning the European Championship with Spain, Torres will understand that his place at Barca remains under threat, particularly given that the Catalans appear intent on signing Nico Williams.

Even if the 24-year-old felt he could do a job more centrally, there’s no shifting Robert Lewandowski unless the Polish hit-man succumbs to injury.

The outlet note that Barca would be willing to negotiate with their Premier League counterparts, and from Torres’ own point of view, he knows the league well enough having been at Man City for a couple of seasons.

Barcelona are preparing an offer of cash plus Ferran Torres for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

Guimaraes joined the Magpies from Lyon in January 2022, making an immediate impact with five goals and an assist in his first half-season at St. James’ Park.

The Brazilian has firmly established himself as a fan favourite on Tyneside after notching up 107 appearances, 17 goals and 16 assists across all competitions, helping Newcastle to reach the 2023 EFL Cup final and qualifying for last season’s Champions League along the way.

However, Eddie Howe’s side failed to qualify for Europe at all in 2023/24 and with the club facing a serious battle to remain compliant with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), there is a resignation that one or two key players may have to be sold this summer.

Barcelona in talks to sign Guimaraes?

Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United warms up prior to the Premier League match between Manchester United and Newcastle United at Old Trafford on May 15, 2024 in Manchester, England.

Newcastle have already raised handsome sums with the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

However, Guimaraes is the next player most linked with an exit from Newcastle this summer, with Manchester City strongly rumoured alongside Arsenal, PSG and, finally, Barcelona.

According to reports in Spain (via Football365), Newcastle have been in talks with Barcelona regarding a possible deal for Guimaraes.

The report states that Newcastle have been looking at Ferran Torres and Raphinha as possible targets of their own. Barcelona are understood to be more open to losing Torres, while Newcastle would prefer Raphinha.

Any swap deal for Guimaraes would also require a serious sum of cash from Barcelona given the midfielder had a release clause of £100m in his contract earlier this summer.

For his own part, Guimaraes has insisted he would be happy to stay at Newcastle beyond this summer.

“I have a contract with Newcastle, I’m very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me, I know everything I’ve been doing for the club. In short, I have a contract, I’m happy,” he said.

“I don’t know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy. It’s obviously very nice to be associated with big clubs; it indicates that I’m performing well, but I’m not concerned about it, as I said, I’m happy at the club.”

Spain have taken the lead against Albania in their final Group B clash which is good news for England’s Round of 16 hopes.

Gareth Southgate’s team will go through to the next round if Albania fail to beat Spain on Tuesday night but they will still be hoping to top their group when they play on Wednesday against Slovenia.

Spain have got off to the perfect start against the Albanians as Barcelona’s Ferran Torres gave them the lead after 13 minutes.

The forward received a delightful through ball from Dani Olmo and finished clinically to set Luis de la Fuente’s team on course to win all three of their group games.

West Ham United are reportedly on alert and ready to make their move for Barcelona misfit Ferran Torres this summer as he seems set to be made available.

The Spanish forward, formerly of Manchester City, has not quite lived up to expectations at Barca, and it will be interesting to see what kind of offers could tempt the Catalan giants to let him go this summer.

Torres might not be quite at the level that elite clubs like City and Barcelona are looking for, but one imagines he could have an impact at a club like West Ham.

Still only 24 years of age, Torres may well have it in him to improve in years to come, and playing regularly for someone like West Ham might be just what he needs at this stage of his career.

West Ham would surely do well to consider Torres and other similar attacking options to give them a bit more variety next season, having become a tad over-reliant on Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio in recent times.

New manager Julen Lopetegui will also know La Liga well, so should have had a close look at Torres at various points down the years.

Brave of Brighton to appoint Fabian Hürzeler – but a good idea

The appointment of Fabian Hürzeler is a brave one, absolutely.

Of course there’s risk but it’s Brighton style, to go for talented and young people. I think it’s good idea to follow their plans, their style.

Hürzeler did excellent at St Pauli so he has all the possibility and potential to shine also in the Premier League.

Patience will be needed, of course.

Morata wants Serie A return but Torres and Williams are happy in Spain

Álvaro Morata would like to return to Italian football, for sure. Nothing is happening now because he’s focused on the Euros, but there could be movement between July and August with Serie A the likely destination if there will be proposals.

He’s open to leaving Atlético Madrid because they’re already in talks for other strikers, Artem Dovbyk being one of them.

Sticking with La Liga, I’m not aware of any bid from Newcastle for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, despite the reports.

He’s happy at Barcelona, not in negotiations with any club at the moment so completely quiet. If something changes we will see, but at the moment no negotiations are taking place for Torres.

The situation is the same with Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Completely quiet at the moment, full focus on the Euros. There’s a release clause around €58m, so clubs are informed.

But again, Nico is happy in Bilbao and any club should pay big money to the player also, in terms of salary package.

Terzić bows out and De Zerbi set to sign in

After Manchester United decided to keep Erik ten Hag as their coach, what’s important to say today is that it’s over between Borussia Dortmund and Edin Terzić.

After the Champions League final and because of many problems internally he decided to leave the club. Among the big favourites to become the new manager is Nuri Şahin.

I will say almost a here we go for Olympique Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi too. There is an agreement on a three-year deal, and everything is fixed between De Zerbi and Marseille, just waiting just on some final details.

What is needed now is just an agreement between Marseille and Brighton.

Chelsea pushing hard for Michael Olise

We mentioned Michael Olise in October, in November, in December, and in the recent months he has become a target again for Chelsea and Manchester United.

Chelsea have always been there and some people on the board consider Olise a fantastic player. This is why Chelsea have approached Crystal Palace formally to ask about the release clause. They want to understand how it would work.

These details are still private in terms of official documents, but Chelsea need to understand about the clause in order to get the green light to have a conversation with Michael Olise and his agents over the contract.

Manchester United and Newcastle are still there and both clubs are really interested in Michael Olise.

Duran could sign but Gallagher focused on Euros

Staying with Chelsea, conversations are also ongoing between them and Aston Villa, and the agents of Jhon Duran about the contract, the salary, the commission, so the entire package is being discussed but important clubs are preparing to enter the race.

For now Chelsea are still considered a favourite because they know the player wants to go to there, and it’s on them to agree personal terms and agents fee.

Conor Gallagher at the moment doesn’t want to decide anything now before the Euros. He wants to focus on the tournament, but Gallagher will be one to watch in the next few months.

Juventus eyeing Mason Greenwood

We keep repeating since February, March that the Mason Greenwood story is over at Manchester United.

They want to sell Mason Greenwood and my information is that it could be a loan with obligation to buy, so it could be that kind of formula – a potential loan move with buy obligation not option.

Let’s see what’s going to happen but there are many possibilities around Mason Greenwood, and Man United will take the time to pick the best proposal.

There is interest from Juventus but they have to sell at least one offensive player before they can land the player.

Matias Soulé is attracting concrete interest from West Ham and others but no formal bid yet, so Soulé could be one to watch in terms of exits.

Juventus want around €40m to let Soulé leave the club, so it won’t be an easy negotiation between clubs… but for sure there’s lot of interest around Europe, including at least 4-5 clubs from abroad. It’s an open race, but West Ham are keen.

It’s also important to say we have to follow the situation of Federico Chiesa because that is another interesting situation for this transfer window.

Dzenan Pejcinovic courting interest from several clubs

Man City are one of many clubs monitoring Wolfsburg’s Dzenan Pejcinovic for the future, but there are several clubs keeping a close eye on him.

Nothing close or advanced yet, but normal to monitor one of the potentially best talents in Europe.

At the moment that’s it, keeping a close eye and we will see which club will “attack” the situation.

Newcastle United have submitted a bid to sign Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, according to reports.

Eddie Howe will be under serious pressure to deliver next season after missing out on European qualification in 2023/24. The Magpies’ Champions League nights against the likes of Dortmund, AC Milan and PSG will live long in the memory but supporters will simply not accept it being a one-off.

But given the fiercely competitive nature of the Premier League, Newcastle will most likely need to invest in key areas to keep up with the competition, especially given they were eight points off the pace in the race for the top four.

According to Spanish outlet Jijantes, Newcastle have submitted an offer of €15m plus €5m in add-ons for Torres, which would be a huge step down from the reported £46.7m Barca paid Man City up-front for his services back in 2021.

The Pep seal of approval?

Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has poured cold water on the rumour, posting on X that there is “no truth in the claims Newcastle have made a bid for Ferran Torres”.

However, Newcastle fans will be hoping Edwards is off the mark.

For starters, Torres posted a respectable 10 goals and three assists in 37 combined La Liga and Champions League appearances last season, despite just 15 of those outings coming from the start.

The 24-year-old also boasts an excellent national team record, with 19 goals and four assists in 41 senior caps for Spain, including scoring six goals across World Cup, European Championships and Uefa Nations League finals combined.

And let’s not forget that this is a player Pep Guardiola once labelled as ‘exceptional’ during their time together at Manchester City.

Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing up the potential transfer of Barcelona forward Ferran Torres this summer, with the former Manchester City player looking likely to leave the Nou Camp.

The Spain international has not lived up to expectations at Barca, and a report from Todo Fichajes now states that it seems almost impossible for him to stay at the club next season.

The report adds that Villa have already been in contact with Torres’ agent, and that they could be ready to try their luck with an offer in the region of €30million to bring him to Villa Park this summer.

Even if Torres isn’t quite at the level required for clubs like Man City or Barcelona, he could surely have an important role to play for Villa as they look to keep progressing under the expert management of Unai Emery, who has improved a lot of the players currently on the club’s books.

Ferran Torres to Aston Villa?

Ferran Torres transfer: Will Aston Villa be able to sign the Spaniard?

Villa seem to have a strong interest in Torres, but it will be interesting to see if they can emerge as the strongest candidate for the 24-year-old as one imagines there’ll be other suitors in the running if he really is on his way out of the Nou Camp.

Torres, however, could do well to choose Villa right now as they’re really going places under Emery, and may even have Champions League football to offer him next season.

AVFC could be even more of a force next season if they can continue to progress as they have, and if they can bring in signings of this calibre while also holding on to key names like Douglas Luiz, Youri Tielemans, Leon Bailey, and Ollie Watkins.

Emery’s side are currently six points ahead of Tottenham, but the north Londoners have two games in hand so could still overtake them into the Champions League places.

Chelsea is reportedly interested in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres as the Catalan club could look to raise funds in the summer.

With his side completely out of the race for the top four in the Premier League, as they currently sit 11th in the table, Mauricio Pochettino will now inevitably focus on securing domestic silverware.

After their dramatic 4-2 win against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Chelsea now faces a daunting trip to the Etihad in the semi-finals.

Despite their concerns this season, the Blues have performed well against the top teams with the treble winners drawing with the struggling London club during their two league clashes.

It was former City man Raheem Sterling who starred for Chelsea in both encounters and according to reports from Todo Fichajes via Team Talk, Pochettino’s side could look to recruit another former Guardiola player in the summer.

Chelsea interested in the signing of Ferran Torres

The report claims that the Blues are great admirers of the Spanish forward and could take advantage of Barcelona’s need to raise money in the transfer market.

Torres joined from Manchester City in 2022 for a reported £47 million and has grabbed 11 goals and four assists so far this season in all competitions.

But the versatile forward has only started 10 games in La Liga this season, which could lead to the Spanish international wanting to leave to secure consistent game time.

According to reports, Chelsea will try to recruit Barcelona’s 24-year-old Spanish international Ferran Torres during the summer transfer window.

A report from the Spanish publication Fichajes claims that Chelsea are interested in Torres.

Before the summer transfer window opens, the West London team will probably search the market for an offensive reinforcement. So, they now have a legitimate target in the Barcelona attacker.

After leaving Manchester City to join Barcelona, the Spanish attacker has been in and out of the team at Camp Nou.

He has failed to solidify his place in the starting line up for the Catalan club.

Chelsea have identified Torres as their summer transfer target

With 32 appearances in all competitions, the 24-year-old has racked up 11 goals and four assists so far in his strong 2023–24 campaign.

Considering that the player has only played for less than 1,700 minutes, that is a fantastic record. But coming into the summer transfer window, Torres’ future at Barcelona is unclear.

Raphinha and Torres have reached a turning point in their careers with the Catalan team, as Barcelona look to finalise a permanent deal for Joao Felix while Lamine Yamal is getting a more prominent role.

Ferran Torres to Chelsea?

Next season, they will most likely split playing time, and the defending La Liga winners have to offload some expensive assets to make ends meet.

Not surprisingly, this has drawn the interest of prominent teams, including Chelsea.

Chelsea could replace Sterling with Torres

It seems unusual that Chelsea are interested in Torres. During Todd Boehly’s tenure, the Blues have made significant investments in attacking players.

Despite his happiness and contentment at Stamford Bridge, Raheem Sterling at Chelsea has an unclear future. And so, Torres is now a realistic goal for the West London team.

Barça may also ask for a sum of money not far from the €55 million they spent on signing him from Manchester City.

The Spanish international should get off to a quick start at Stamford Bridge because of his prior Premier League experience.
