Manchester City are interested in the services of Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are always on the lookout for opportunities to further bolster their squad. While they already have a lot of quality in the final third of the pitch, according to a report from Bild, City are now considering making a move for the services of Kingsley Coman.

The French international has been an integral part of their first team since joining them back in 2015 from Juventus. It was an initial two-year-long loan spell that became permanent in the summer of 2017. Over the years, he has featured in 294 matches for the German giants and has contributed towards 129 goals (63 goals, 66 assists).

While Coman has played a big part in all the success they have had in recent seasons, he has slowly gone down the pecking order. Injuries have forced him to miss a significant amount of games in recent seasons and while he still has three years left on his deal, Bayern are looking to get him off their books following the arrival of Michael Olise.

The German club are open to a permanent switch as well as a loan move. Due to his lofty €20 million a year salary demands, Bayern are looking for a club that is willing to pay a significant part of his wages and Manchester City are one of the clubs linked with the 28-year-old.

Where will Kingsley Coman ends up?

Coman has already turned down the opportunity to join Fenerbahce. While Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are considering luring him away from Bayern, Manchester City could now look to enter the race for his services.

Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of the former Juventus winger and he is considering signing the French winger on a season-long loan. Since they can surely afford to pay a significant part of his wages, City have a strong chance of securing his signing. However, things are still in the early stages and there is nothing concrete to suggest that he will be playing for the Premier League giants next season.

Barcelona would like to add a new wide player to their squad this summer and it is being reported that the Catalan club have made contact with the representatives of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.

The 28-year-old is a player Hansi Flick knows very well having worked with the French talent in Munich and the German coach will have strong feelings towards the player as he scored the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final as Bayern defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.

The Bavarian club won the treble that season and Coman contributed with eight goals and seven assists across 38 games in all competitions.

Overall, Flick managed Coman in 63 games and the winger would produce 13 goals and eight assists while working under the German coach.

The former Bayern boss is now considering reuniting with the Frenchman as Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that contact has been made between the winger and Barcelona over the past few days. The La Liga giants have been told that a loan deal is possible, which will be music to the Catalan outfit’s ears given their financial issues.

However, nothing is concrete or serious yet as Barca are still hopeful of signing Athletic Club’s Nico Williams before the summer transfer window shuts.

Barcelona could make a late move for Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman

A move for Williams is not realistic for Barcelona this summer, therefore, the likelihood of the Catalan club making an attempt to sign Coman towards the end of the window is high.

Plettenberg states that Barca need to offload some players and free up wage space before a deal can be done, which in itself shows that a move for Williams is not possible if the La Liga club have to do this before submitting a loan proposal.

The signing of Coman would be a risky one for Barcelona as the winger has declined in recent seasons and has been very injury-prone.

If Matthijs de Ligt was in any doubt whatsoever as to how much he was wanted by Bayern Munich’s fan base, the Man United target has received an emphatic response.

At the last count, some 68,000 Bayern fans had signed a petition to keep him at the club according to German football expert, Christian Falk, writing in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside.

It would appear to be a foregone conclusion that the Dutch warrior will soon be signing on the dotted line to complete a move to Old Trafford, however, and ensure a reunion with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.

Matthijs de Ligt set to join Man United

“It’s true, there’s a petition to keep Matthijs de Ligt at Bayern, and many, many fans signed it already. At least 68,000 in fact. That shows you how important he is for Bayern and it’s a pity that Vincent Kompany doesn’t see it. I would sign the petition as well because I think the first step for a defender is to defend – and de Ligt is one of the best in Europe,” Falk noted.

“As you already saw, he’s very close now to Manchester United. A few months ago, when it wasn’t clear who the next coach would be, he told me that he wanted to stay at Bayern, but Erik ten Hag did a good job. He’s also shown the player what he wants to do with him so I think this will happen very soon because the clubs have now began to talk. Bayern want €50m plus add-ons, bringing the fee to nearer €60m. We will see if United wants to pay it because de Ligt has made it very clear that he only wants to go to United. I heard PSG were also interested but I don’t think this will happen.”

It isn’t just de Ligt that could be on the move either. Under new man in charge, Vincent Kompany, this really could be a summer of change for the Bavarians.

68,000 Bayern fans have signed a petition for Matthijs de Ligt to stay at the club
68,000 Bayern fans have signed a petition for Matthijs de Ligt to stay at the club

“Kingsley Coman is another player up for sale with PSG and a few other clubs interested in him. Bayern want €50m for him so let’s see where he will land. Leon Goretzka was told that he can leave the club but he’s made the decision that he wants to stay. Joshua Kimmich has a contract until 2025, so one year less than Goretzka. For him, the situation is easier because he can play this one more year and then leave for free,” Falk added.

“Bayern Munich pay him up till €20m a year but don’t want to give him as much money again. They want to get his salary down by at least 25%, perhaps even 50%, but that won’t be realistic. Kimmich is the only player too who is his own agent, he does all of the negotiations himself. It’s not so easy to do so with foreign clubs at the moment as that was the idea of Barcelona – to get him to join because of Hansi Flick. In one year, if he is a free agent, it’ll be really easy to get him.

“Serge Gnabry is on the list as well. Bayern want to sell him but it’s really hard because he’s earning so much and I think he only played in just 30% of the matches last year. They won’t get him away at the moment because there’s no club who will pay him the same salary and pay a transfer fee for a player who has been injured for virtually the whole season and didn’t play in the European Championship.

“Alphonso Davies is a real problem for Bayern Munich. They’ve bought Ito from Stuttgart to put a little bit of pressure on him because he didn’t sign a new contract.

“They were really close to signing but Bayern’s supervisory board kept saying no, that the terms were too much. The agents changed things and it was the same story, so they were really angry having to go back to Canada with no agreement.”

After what can only be said to have been an awful season under Thomas Tuchel, Bayern’s board will be expecting Kompany to restore the club to their rightful place at the summit of German football.

For a manager with big ideas but who was sixth choice for the Bayern job and got his last club relegated, it’s a huge risk for all concerned.

Man United have yet to really enter the summer transfer market in earnest.

The Red Devils need to strengthen in a number of areas but, as with many clubs, they are jostling for position in certain deals at present, waiting for others to show their hand before making their move.

A ‘domino effect’ of sorts is likely to kick-start the window, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this not begin properly until the European Championship and Copa America is over.

Man United on alert as up to six Bayern players could be sold

The Olympic Games throws another curve ball into the mix this summer, though they shouldn’t affect sales and purchases in the beautiful game from going through.

One player that Man United appear particularly interested in is Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, a centre-back who was previously Erik ten hag’s captain whilst both were at Ajax.

Should he end up at Old Trafford in time for the 2024/25 campaign, it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to be given the captain’s armband at Bruno Fernandes’ expense.

In any event, Bayern appear to be in a little financial difficulty.

According to Kicker (subscription required), though the Bavarians have signed Michael Olise and Hiroki Ito, and intend to land Joao Palhinha from Fulham, this shouldn’t mask the fact that the club need to make sales. Lots of them in fact.

The outlet name as many as six players that might need to pack their bags this summer and head out of Munich at the earliest opportunity.

Aside from de Ligt, Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich all appear to be available for the right price.

That’s an unprecedented fire sale from a club whose hierarchy clearly believe that such a move is warranted.

Good time for PSG to sell Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United

Manuel Ugarte has been discussed as a transfer target for Manchester United and it’s an interesting story after he only arrived at PSG last summer to great fanfare. He joined from Sporting Lisbon for a big price tag and started well, though he then dropped off quite significantly, especially after PSG’s Champions League adventure started.

I think the biggest issue for Ugarte at PSG was that he was signed before Luis Enrique’s arrival as manager was properly finalised. Enrique simply doesn’t play in a style that has space for someone of Ugarte’s profile. He was not signed off by Enrique, so when he inherited the squad, as much as others at PSG thought he would be a good signing, the Uruguayan has ended up being one of a number of signings from last summer to have not quite bedded in as well as many would have expected.

So, Ugarte to United seems to have gathered pace quite significantly and it’s not too surprising. I think Ugarte is tailor-made for the Premier League and I think the drop-off from Casemiro in the season just gone means it’s normal United would be looking for a profile like that to replace him.

It’s also a good time for PSG to sell Ugarte because he’s in good form for the Uruguay national team at Copa America, so the fact that he’s performing well at an international tournament means his value won’t drop as drastically as it may have done as he’s not been that important at club level in the second half of last season. So it makes sense for PSG, United, and for the player.

A lot of the interest in Ugarte prior to his move to PSG was from clubs in Italy, and it would probably now be quite difficult to find as many Serie A teams who can pay the same sort of fee and wages that United can, so that would have been difficult for PSG in terms of extracting the best possible value from him this summer.

Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United?

It’s a critical moment as well because if this drags on and Ugarte finds himself out of favour with Enrique at the start of the new season with PSG, it will become that much harder for them to command the kind of fee they’ll want, and perhaps even half what they paid for him 12 months ago. If he goes now, PSG won’t make as much of a loss.

Hard to see potential for PSG-United swap deals

There’s also been talk of PSG and United discussing a few other players as well as Ugarte, but it’s hard to see anyone in Erik ten Hag’s squad that would be what PSG are looking for right now.

There are of course a couple of United players that have been looked at by PSG in the last few years, for example Marcus Rashford, but it’s hard to see anyone that would make sense as being part of a deal for Ugarte. There are some potentially interesting profiles like Willy Kambwala, for instance, who could develop in the future and who could be useful cover for the injured Lucas Hernandez, who is likely to miss much of next season.

Other than that, I think it’s very difficult to identify a top player outside of Rashford who PSG might have thought there’s something they can do with. The only others who’d interest PSG are surely players United wouldn’t be ready to let go. Ugarte is a good midfield destroyer, but he’s also not the most eye-catching of players, so there will probably be a temptation in the end to jus stick to a cut and dry transfer fee that suits both clubs best, rather than any star names getting involved in the other direction.

Jean Clair-Todibo may snub West Ham transfer to stay at Nice

Jean-Clair Todibo’s potential move to Manchester United now looks problematic due to both INEOS-owned Nice and Man United being in the same European competition next season, catching the attention of the footballing authorities.

The situation with Todibo remains open, with the main offer coming in so far this summer being from West Ham, I believe, and though a move to the Premier League would appeal to Todibo, it’s not, I’m told, the destination he had in mind, as it’s not the same calibre of other clubs who’ve been chasing his signature in the last few months.

My understanding is that there’s now more of a willingness from Todibo to see how things go at Nice this coming season. There is the feeling that there could be an interesting project worth staying on for at Nice, though there might also be a willingness to wait and see if the United and Nice links via INEOS are cleared up in the next 6-12 months.

Todibo won’t miss out on European football if he stays this season at Nice, and he might look at the France squad at Euro 2024, and think that, although William Saliba has now made a starting place his own, there might be an opportunity to partner him in Didier Deschamps’ side at the expense of Dayot Upamecano.

It’s important for Todibo to consider the right move so he can be in the best position possible to put pressure on for that place with Les Bleus at the 2026 World Cup. These will all be considerations, so I think it’s safe to say West Ham don’t live up to Todibo’s expectations given the calibre of clubs to be linked with him in the last year or so.

Kingsley Coman to PSG is one to watch following Michael Olise to Bayern deal

The situation with Kingsley Coman looks pretty intriguing now that Michael Olise is close to joining Bayern Munich, who we also know are looking to move a few players on this summer. PSG are a club who could end up doing business with Bayern because of Xavi Simons – it’s difficult because PSG really don’t want to let him go, but it could be that Bayern will come to the table with players on offer.

If that happens, one name likely to be discussed could be Coman. He’s home-grown, which is important to PSG, so I think there’d be some consideration from them towards Coman, even if the downsides are that he’s quite injury prone and would be on a high salary.

It’s impossible to see Coman going anywhere else in France at the moment, given the concerning issue of there still being no TV deal in place – a major problem for French football as a whole. I do think Bayern’s purge won’t stop at Coman, there are a number of other players they’d like to move on and I think Joshua Kimmich is another PSG will be keeping an eye on, while there’s potentially also interest in Mathys Tel, who we know is not happy to be staying behind Harry Kane in the pecking order in Munich.

If PSG end up doing a deal for Xavi Simons in the end, it is likely to focus on one or maybe even two Bayern players moving in the other direction, so Coman could be one to be included in the deal, but there’s still a long way to go until. Simons’ Euros with the Netherlands is over. So there’s no movement on that front right now even if Bayern have very much positioned themselves to pick him up.

In terms of Olise going to Bayern, it’s an interesting move. It’s quite a big jump to go from Crystal Palace to a big club like Bayern, but I think he’ll get the developmental programme laid out in front of him that he probably needs to get up to speed. I do think Bayern are looking to go in a different direction now, so if Olise manages to get regular minutes that will put him on Deschamps’ radar, but I do think it’s going to be quite a challenge as well, so a lot will depend on how quickly he adapts and makes himself a contender for regular selection.

I think it’s a good move for Bayern and for Olise, but there is substantial risk attached as well, as I thought when he was previously also linked with PSG and other big clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain could sign one or two players from Bayern Munich this summer as part of a deal for Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons to move to the Allianz Arena, according to French football expert Jonathan Johnson.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Johnson explained that PSG are not too keen to lose Simons to Bayern, but it seems like it’s a possibility once the player gets back to focusing on his future after Euro 2024.

Simons has shone on loan at RB Leipzig and it’s clear he’s a player with a big future in the game, even if it looks tricky for him to find room in Luis Enrique’s star-studded PSG side.

Johnson expects, however, that Simons could leave PSG if Bayern are ready to include players in the deal, with the journalist naming French winger Kingsley Coman as one realistic option that could appeal to the Ligue 1 giants, while German midfielder Joshua Kimmich could be another to watch out for, and perhaps even young French striker Mathys Tel.

PSG to let Simons join Bayern if two players are included?

According to reports, a number of Premier League teams, including Liverpool, have been informed that Bayern Munich are prepared to part ways with Kingsley Coman this summer.

The French winger is likely to be shown the exit door at the Allianz Arena this summer with the German giants preparing for the arrival of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

Under new manager Vincent Kompany, the Bundesliga club are expected to make changes after losing out the league title to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen last season.

As per HITC, the German club have made contact with the Premier League giants to inform them that they intend to sell the 28-year-old winger.

The player is not confident about his playing time at the Allianz Arena next season and he could be willing to consider an exit in order to get more first team action.

The German giants are expected to demand £50 million for the player but the report mentions that there is no certainty that any club would be willing to pay that considering Coman’s injury record.

Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in signing the pacey winger and they would be willing to meet Bayern’s valuation for the player.

Liverpool Kingsley Coman Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich have informed Liverpool that they are willing to offload Kingsley Coman.

However, it remains to be seen if Coman wants to leave European football and move to the Middle East.

During his time at Bayern, the versatile winger, who formerly played for Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, has contributed 66 assists and 63 goals.

There is no doubt about his quality and what he would add to his future team but his injury record could be a huge concern for any potential suitor.

Liverpool should avoid signing injury-prone Coman

The French winger missed 21 games last season because of fitness issues and that could be a stumbling block for Bayern to move him on this summer.

Liverpool should not consider signing him as the Reds cannot have another player in the squad who is known for his injury problems.

The Premier League club struggled with an injury crisis last season and that hampered their chances of winning the league title and the Europa League.

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has been linked to the move away from the German club at the end of the season.

According to a report from HITC, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have been made aware of his availability and it remains to be seen whether the three English clubs are keen on making a move for the French international winger.

Coman has been an important player for Bayern Munich and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for all three clubs. The 28-year-old winger is likely to cost around £50 million and the asking price could be a bit of a problem.

The French winger missed a lot of games through injury last season and it remains to be seen whether he is over his injury nightmare now. Either way, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool will want to sign him for a more reasonable price.

It seems that the 28-year-old is no longer a key player for Bayern Munich and the German outfit are ready to cash in on him. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Kingsley Coman linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
Kingsley Coman could be a fine signing

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal could use Kingsley Coman

Liverpool could certainly use more depth in the wide areas with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah the only natural wingers at the club. At Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has not been able to rotate players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli due to the lack of depth in the squad. Chelsea spent substantial amounts of money on Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk. However, both players have been quite underwhelming.

All three clubs need more quality on the flanks and Coman could be a useful acquisition. He has proven himself in German football and there is no doubt that he has the technical attributes to do well in England as well.

Manchester United contact PSG to discuss several players

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have had contacts to discuss several players, but from what I’m hearing they have not presented an official bid to PSG for Manuel Ugarte. United and PSG have a good relationship, and although Ugarte was one of the topics, he was not the only one.

Still, United know that several players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be on the move this summer, while they still have to decide what they want to do with Sofyan Amrabat, and so midfield is an area they’re looking at, and Ugarte is a player they appreciate.

For now, United’s priorities are still centre-back, left-back and striker, but in midfield there could be some movement as well. Ugarte could be an option, he could be one to watch, but let’s wait and see if it turns into anything more concrete. On the centre-back issue, I can reveal that United called Lille again in the last 24-48 about Leny Yoro, to make all parties aware of their interest.

Yoro himself is pushing for Real Madrid, while there is also interest from Liverpool and PSG, but United have made it clear that they would like to enter the story in case any deal with Real Madrid collapses. So now it’s on Real Madrid – if they want to do what it takes to close the deal, then Yoro will go there as they’re his preferred destination.

Staying with United, the agreement with Erik ten Hag on a new contract is really close. We’re just waiting for the final details, but it’s almost done, the agreement is there. Ten Hag will sign a new deal at Manchester United and will also change some members of his coaching staff. It is a concrete possibility to see Ruud van Nistelrooy joining United as an assistant coach – he’s really tempted by the possibility.

Michael Olise closing in on Bayern transfer, but what could it mean for Kingsley Coman?

Michael Olise will this week become a new Bayern Munich player. Everything is okay between Bayern and Olise, and they will pay his release clause at Crystal Palace – £45m plus £5m in add-ons. Palace, meanwhile, are now negotiating for Antonio Nusa to replace Olise, and despite rumours I don’t have an imminent update on Eberechi Eze, Palace are still hoping to keep him, but his release clause is there. Jobe Bellingham also remains a target for Palace, they are still pushing for him, especially after the Olise story.

Bayern are now also working on other deals, including Jonathan Tah. The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back wants to go to Bayern, so let’s see if they can reach an agreement. For Xavi Simons, we’ll have to wait until after the Euros. With Joao Palhinha, negotiations between Bayern and Fulham are still ongoing, with the player pushing for the move.

With the Olise signing, I’ve had some fans asking me questions about what it could mean for the futures of Bayern’s other attacking players. My understanding is that Bayern are happy with Leroy Sane, while Serge Gnabry has publicly said that he’d be happy to stay, so we’ll see what happens in case of proposals. Kingsley Coman is probably the player I’d say has the highest chances of leaving Bayern – he’s open to possible proposals and so are Bayern, but despite links with PSG the race is still absolutely open, it’s not something concrete or imminent, despite what’s been reported elsewhere.

Marc Guiu to Chelsea, plus Aaron Anselmino pursuit

Marc Guiu to Chelsea is a ‘here we go’. Chelsea believe this was a fantastic opportunity for two reasons: huge potential as top talent, good price as his €6m release clause at Barcelona is considered a bargain. They are very happy to proceed with the Guiu deal, and they’re just working on formal steps now to trigger the clause this week.

I’m not sure this will be the only signing Chelsea make up front, I think they will take their time and consider other options, though my understanding as of now is that there’s still nothing new on Samu Omorodion or Jhon Duran, we’ll see what Chelsea decide to do.

In defence, Chelsea remain on a mission to sign Aaron Anselmino. Chelsea keep working on that, they are in active talks with Boca Juniors. Despite Manchester United also being linked, for now we will have to wait and see if other clubs will enter the race. For now, talks are with Chelsea now and they are trying to find a solution under the value of the release clause. Many people talk very highly of his potential, but of course he’s still very young, so it would be another signing for the future for Chelsea.

Rumoured Eddie Nketiah price tag and Johan Bakayoko Arsenal links

I’ve been seeing reports about Eddie Nketiah and a possible price tag of as much as £50m for him at Arsenal. However, I’m not aware of a final price tag being decided or communicated for Nketiah – Arsenal are expected to consider proposals for him but for sure it won’t be cheap. There’s interest from clubs in England but again, it’s not something advanced or concrete now as the strikers domino in the market is expected to start after the Euros.

Arsenal are also being linked with Johan Bakayoko by some outlets, while names like Chelsea and Liverpool have also come up, but I’m told nothing is concrete yet for Bakayoko. Many clubs are following the exciting young Belgian winger, but no club has reached out to PSV Eindhoven yet, so we need to be patient on this one.

Tottenham’s plans at right-back

Emerson Royal could leave Tottenham as he’s publicly acknowledged interest from AC Milan, even if nothing is done yet. As previously reported, Monaco right-back Vanderson is someone they are showing an interest in in case Emerson leaves the club.

I’m also aware there have been some rumours about Yan Couto, but I’m not aware of anything concrete on that story, let’s wait and see what happens. However, as Tottenham have Pedro Porro as their first choice, they want to sign a backup option for that position, and I see Couto as someone who would be more of a starter than a rotation player.

Bayern Munich could let Kingsley Coman go this summer as they close in on the signing of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column today, Fabrizio Romano explained that there could be a chance for Coman to leave Bayern as Olise adds yet another option to their attack.

New Bayern manager Vincent Kompany has a lot of quality in that position, with Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane seemingly more likely to stay at the Allianz Arena, with Romano singling out Coman as the most likely of those three to leave.

The Olise to Bayern deal is edging closer to completion, and it seems Bayern will keep being busy this summer as Coman could leave while other targets are still on the club’s agenda, such as midfield duo Xavi Simons and Joao Palhinha, and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, according to Romano.

Coman transfer following Olise signing at Bayern?

He added: “Bayern are now also working on other deals, including Jonathan Tah. The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back wants to go to Bayern, so let’s see if they can reach an agreement.
