Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has returned to posting about Liverpool after deleting photos related to the Merseyside club following the Reds’ Premier League clash with Tottenham in May.

The Uruguayan star started on the bench as Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated the North London club 4-2 at Anfield, a game which saw Nunez squander a one-on-one opportunity.

The striker had missed several chances in the weeks prior and after the Spurs match, the Liverpool star let comments from fans get to him, leading to the former Benfica star deleting the majority of photos related to the Premier League club on his Instagram page.

This sparked transfer speculation ahead of the summer transfer window but with the new season getting underway next Saturday, Nunez has returned to posting about Liverpool and it confirms that the Uruguayan is staying at Anfield for another year.

The 25-year-old posted a picture of himself at Liverpool’s AXA training ground looking into the glass on a stairway. This could have a deeper meaning that the striker has reflected this summer and is ready to begin a new era at the Reds with Arne Slot at the helm. The Dutch coach will hope to get the best out of the forward as he can be lethal on his day.

Liverpool need Darwin Nunez to step up this season

Nunez has shown signs of being an incredible talent but his finishing has let him down massively since moving to Anfield.

The Uruguay international has produced 33 goals and 17 assists across 96 games for the Premier League giants, but fans of the Merseyside club know that those numbers could be much better with the number of chances created for the forward.

Slot will need Nunez to step up with goals this season if Liverpool are to have a successful campaign and if not, it may be the 25-year-old’s last at the club.

Liverpool and Newcastle United are understood to remain interested in Marc Guehi this summer.

Suitors are thought to consider Crystal Palace’s price tag of over €60m [£51.1m] for the defender to be quite high.

Sources close to the player have confirmed that the England international – who played a prominent role in the Three Lions’ ultimately ill-fated Euros campaign – is open to departing the club. However, this is only on the basis of the Eagles receiving the right offer.

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is facing a very long ban from football following his Copa America semi-final bust-up with Colombia fans especially if FIFA get involved in the case.

The Reds striker landed himself in hot water after Uruguay were eliminated by Los Cafeteros in the semi-final stage of Copa America losing 1-0 to the Colombians.

After the match, a brawl broke out as an altercation occurred between Colombian fans and the families of Uruguay players. This resulted in members of the Uruguay squad jumping into the stands to defend their loved ones and Nunez was spotted punching fans.

The Liverpool star was also caught on camera attempting to throw a chair at Colombia supporters, only for the 25-year-old to be held back.

The organisation from CONMEBOL throughout the tournament was a disaster and although that played a big role in the scenes that occurred, Nunez looks like he could be facing a lengthy ban from football.

Former Tottenham star Eric Dier was previously involved in an incident with fans where he climbed into the stands to confront people who were abusing his brother and the England international received a four-match ban as a result, which is not good news for Nunez.

FIFA involvement is not good news for Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez

According to Football Insider, Nunez could be handed a lengthy ban from football should FIFA decide to get involved in the situation.

The world governing body has previously intervened in controversial incidents similar to the Copa America brawl, opting to provide the punishment they feel fitting immediately rather than waiting for future international games.

Dier’s incident has provided them a precedent to go off and considering Nunez hit fans, the striker’s ban would be a lot more than four games.

Should the 25-year-old receive a big ban, this would be a big blow to Arne Slot as the Uruguay star is a player the Dutch coach would have wanted to start work on right away as the former Benfica star has serious potential to be one of the best in the world.

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was involved in ugly scenes on Wednesday night in the United States as the Uruguay star got into a brawl with Colombia fans but the Reds are waiting for all the facts before deciding how to proceed with the player. 

Uruguay were knocked out of the Copa America having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia at the semi-final stage. It was a missed opportunity for Marcelo Bielsa’s men as the Colombians were down to 10 men for the entire second half.

Emotions were running high after the full-time whistle and once news reached Uruguay players that their families’ safety was at risk, everything kicked off between the team and Colombia fans.

Footage has emerged of Nunez punching Colombian supporters as the striker needed to be restrained from doing any more damage.

The Liverpool star could later be seen in another video attempting to hurl a chair towards several Colombia fans giving him and his team-mates abuse before it was removed from his hand and he was visibly pulled back by his international colleagues.

Out of context, the clips show an out-of-control Nunez going crazy and according to the Liverpool Echo, the Premier League club are aware of the incident but will wait to comment.

Liverpool to wait before making Darwin Nunez decision

Although Nunez was stepping in to defend his family and could later be seen consoling his young son on the pitch after the melee, this is not a look a club like Liverpool would want associated with one of their players.

According to the Echo, The Reds will reach out to Nunez when the time difference allows them to check in on the 25-year-old and his family’s welfare after a distressing evening in Charlotte.

The Merseyside club will also speak directly to the Uruguay Football Federation to get their version of events and it’s understood no official statement will be imminent with Anfield officials keen to establish all the facts around the ugly scenes before determining the best course of action.

This was a very bad night for football in South America and Liverpool are very likely to support their player throughout the aftermath of this incident.

Darwin Nunez is someone Arne Slot is thrilled to work with, and he has already discussed his position at Liverpool for the next season with the striker.

The attacker ended the previous season in a disappointing manner and his failure to score goals and criticism from the fans saw him get linked to a move to Barcelona.

Despite making 10 appearances without scoring in the last stages of the season, Nunez finished the previous season with 18 goals and 13 assists for the Reds.

He showed flashes of brilliance but for most part of the season, he was inconsistent despite a decent return in term of his stats.

The new Liverpool manager has admitted that he has spoken to the striker and has claimed that the Uruguayan is a crucial part of his plans for next season.

“I just told him that, from what I saw, he played multiple positions and what positions – or position – I see him playing.

“It’s clear for him which position he’s going to play. It’s clear for me as well and me telling him made it clear for him.”

New Liverpool manager is ready to support Nunez

After Liverpool defeated Tottenham 4-2 in May, the Uruguayan international decided to delete all images of Liverpool from his social media accounts.

The striker is often criticised by the fans for missing easy chances and they feel despite being given opportunities at the club, he has failed to perform at the level required from a Liverpool striker.

It did look like he will leave Liverpool this summer but the confidence given to him by the new manager shows there is a future for Nunez at Anfield and Slot has some plans for him ahead of the next season.
