Aston Villa’s summer transfer window has been smooth but there is an issue regarding the future of one of the players.

Villa have signed some prominent names this summer including Amdaou Onana and Ian Maatsen.

Under the leadership of Unai Emery, they have strengthened their squad as they prepare to play in the Champions League next season.

However, one player faces an uncertain future at the club and he faces being punished for his gesture.

Striker Jhon Duran has been linked with a move away from the club all summer and West Ham United have been mentioned as his next possible destination.

The striker made an Irons-shaped gesture on social media, hinting at his desire to leave the club to join the Hammers. His actions are being investigated by Aston Villa and he could face a punishment for that.

Finance expert Stefan Borson has told Football Insider that the Premier League club will not be lenient in dealing with Duran.

“I would imagine that he will be fined unless he’s sold,” Borson told Football Insider.

“If he’s sold, then clearly they will just wrap it all up in the deal and they will take a view on it.

“But those sorts of gestures have an impact because it’s a negotiation.

“We all know the way these things work in terms of negotiation. West Ham will try and leverage it.

“But Villa will probably take quite a hard line on it.”

It feels like the player has no future at Aston Villa and various sources have confirmed his desire to leave the club.

He wants more playing time after starting just three league games last season and at Villa that is impossible because of the presence of Ollie Watkins.

West Ham United have made big changes to their squad this summer with the Hammers strengthening all the positions.

They have managed to sign Niclas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and other players to become a force to be feared next season.

The Hammers have shown intent in the transfer market and the arrival of new manager Julen Lopetegui has given the club exactly the boost they needed.

West Ham could complete the signing of another striker as Aston Villa attacker Jhon Duran is keen on a move to the London Stadium.

According to information provided by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano to GiveMeSport, the striker is keen on a move to the east Londoners despite them signing Germany international attacker Fullkrug.

Romano told GiveMeSport:

“At the moment, West Ham’s full focus was on Fullkrug, so I think that also [signing] Jhon Duran would be really, really expensive. Let’s see what West Ham decide to do.

“For sure, the player would still be keen on the move, because the player always wanted to go to West Ham. There was also a call from Saudi from Al-Hilal for Jhon Duran, but the player always decided to give priority to West Ham.”

Duran impressed last season in a back up role at Aston Villa and scored five Premier League goals despite only starting three league games.

He couldn’t get enough playing time due to the presence of Ollie Watkins at the club but he looked threatening whenever he was given the opportunity.

The Hammers currently have Fullkrug, Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as their attacking options and with all the players coming in the 30+ age bracket, a young addition to the attack would be a sensible move.

The 20-year-old Duran wants to leave Villa and eyes a move to the Hammers as the right step to develop his career.

Jeff Stelling names another striker West Ham are signing after Fullkrug

West Ham United have already completed the signing of Germany international striker Niclas Fullkrug.

The Hammers needed a new striker and they have found the right player in Fullkrug, who scored 15 goals for Borussia Dortmund last season in the Bundesliga and the Champions League combined.

The attacker was picked in the Germany squad for Euro 2024, where he scored two goals for the European giants.

He is off to start a new journey in the Premier League now for the Hammers but he may not be the only striker that West Ham sign this summer.

According to Jeff Stelling, the east Londoners are still interested in a move for Aston Villa attacker Jhon Duran.

While speaking on talkSPORT, as reported by West Ham Zone, Stelling said:

“As well as Fullkrug, they’ve signed Max Kilman and Crysencio Summerville – £110million so far this window, second only to Aston Villa, and they might not be done yet because I understand they’re still interested in Jhon Duran as well. That’s despite signing Fullkrug.”

The Villains put the Colombian striker up for sale as a way to raise funds to comply with the Premier League’s strict rules of Profit and Sustainability (PSR).

Aston Villa have held talks with Fulham regarding the sale of defender Diego Carlos this summer, according to reports.

Fulham are still on the hunt for a replacement centre-back after Tosin Adarabioyo left to join Chelsea on a free transfer this summer.

And Sky Sports are reporting that the Whites have turned their attention to Villa’s Carlos as one of two possible arrivals in the position, alongside Villarreal’s Jorge Cuenca.

Carlos arrived at Villa Park from Sevilla in August 2022 for a reported £26m fee (per Sky Sports) but has endured a tough time in the Midlands, with an Achilles injury limiting him to just three appearances in his first season at the club.

In 2023/24, Carlos played 38 times across all competitions, but made just 20 starts in the Premier League as he faced competition from the likes of Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa for a place in Unai Emery’s starting line-up.

With Tyrone Mings also closing in on a return from a long-term injury, Aston Villa have are well-stocked for starting centre-backs, meaning they will likely be open to allowing Carlos to leave this summer.

Alongside the Brazilian, Aston Villa look set to part ways with striker Jhon Duran this summer, with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United linked with the Colombia international in recent weeks.

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui is delighted with technical director Tim Steidten’s choice to target Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug this summer, according to reports.

The Hammers were originally linked with Aston Villa’s Colombian talent Jhon Duran and were even understood to have agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old.

However, it appears they’ve now walked away from the deal after being unwilling to meet Villa’s £40m valuation of the player.

Now, according to HITC, Steidten is ready to switch targets and is lining up a bid for Dortmund target man Fullkrug.

West Ham could face competition from Atletico Madrid for the 31-year-old, but Steidten has at least earned Lopetegui’s seal of approval, with HITC reporting that the Spaniard is ‘more than happy’ to work with the German striker.

Could West Ham sign McCoist’s favourite striker?

Fullkrug is something of a late bloomer when it comes to top-flight football, with his first season notching double-figure goals coming in 2017/18 when he scored 14 times in 34 Bundesliga appearances for Hannover.

Counting the likes of Nurnburg and Greuther Furth among his former clubs, Fullkrug joined Dortmund from Werder Bremen last summer and scored 15 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions — helping Die Schwarzgelben finish fifth in the Bundesliga and reach the Champions League final.

Fullkrug boasts an incredible record at national team level, scoring 13 goals in 21 caps for Germany so far since making his debut in November 2022.

The striker has famously caught the eye of former Rangers and Scotland goalscorer Ally McCoist in the past as well, with the commentator waxing lyrical about the German on a number of occasions.

“One I’d like to see is Fullkrug. I have no doubt he would score goals in the top flight in England. I like him,” McCoist told talkSPORT of Fullkrug during Euro 2024.

“I don’t like using the term old-fashioned centre-forward. But he’s a proper centre-forward.

“He brings people into play, can go in behind, powerful, attacks things in the box. I think he’d be a tremendous signing for somebody.”

Aston Villa are on the lookout for potential replacements for Jhon Duran and Unai Emery has an interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Heading into the 2023/24 campaign not many clubs would have been chasing the 27-year-old as the forward’s time at Selhurst Park had been up and down since he moved to London from Mainz 05 in 2021.

However, the second half of last season saw the Mateta reborn under new Palace boss Oliver Glasner. The Eagles put together an impressive second half to their 2023/24 campaign and it was spearheaded by their French striker.

Mateta finished the Premier League term with 16 goals, but impressively 14 of them came in the final 16 games of the campaign.

With a contract expiring at Selhurst Park in 2026 and no agreement reached over a new deal, several clubs have been keeping an eye on the 27-year-old.

One of them is Crystal Palace’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa with the Birmingham club said to have reached out to Mateta’s camp to explore the possibility of a summer transfer, reports The Express.

Villa face tough competition for the French forward as Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested in the Crystal Palace star.
