‘Here we go’ x3 for Manchester United, plus update on midfielder search

Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham is a ‘here we go’ and it’s a crucial story because, as I reported previously, Manchester United were waiting for Wan-Bissaka to leave in order to be able to bring in a new right-back and also a new centre-back.

Now it’s happening, with Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham in a permanent transfer, and it’s an important sale as United could have lost him on a free when his contract would have expired next summer. Inter were also interested in the 26-year-old, though it would have been in a year’s time as a free agent, not in a swap deal this summer. Still, Wan-Bissaka decided to accept the offer from West Ham for a five-year contract, and he’ll have his medical tests with the Hammers this morning.

So, everything is done for Wan-Bissaka to move from Man United to West Ham for £15m – this is the value of the deal, and West Ham are truly on fire at the moment with a big summer that has seen them appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new manager whilst also completing deals like Wan-Bissaka, and also Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman, Guido Rodriguez, Crysencio Summerville and others.

As I previously reported, United want to attack the market and now we can say that it’s ‘here we go’ for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to move to Old Trafford. The deal is done with Bayern, and we have to congratulate United because the deal has been completed as they wanted – the timing was longer than expected, but it was worth it for United.

It was not always easy negotiating with Bayern, who for months insisted on guaranteed money, not add-ons, but United always wanted to get the deals done with add-ons. Now we can say that De Ligt will be joining the Red Devils for €45m plus €5m in add-ons. Bayern sources say these add-ons will be quite easy to reach, but it’s still structured quite favourably for United, and for Mazraoui it’s also €15m plus €5m in add-ons.

Now both players will travel to join United and both are set to sign five-year deals. In the case of De Ligt, this agreement was actually reached with his agent Rafaela Pimenta back in June, so he’s been waiting and waiting for United and was never negotiating with any other club. Mazraoui has also been waiting patiently since July, with United at times considering other right-back options like Vanderson and Denzel Dumfries. Still, Mazraoui looks a good option as he knows Erik ten Hag well from their time at Ajax, and he can fill in at left-back as well as on the right-hand side.

So, this is the double deal between Bayern and United, and now Bayern are expected to sign one more centre-back. Jonathan Tah’s agent is still working on the deal for him to move to the Allianz Arena so let’s wait for developments there, but he’s expected to be the new centre-back for the Bavarian giants.

Matthijs De Ligt is on his way to Manchester United

United also remain busy in the search for a new midfielder – they spoke with the agents of Sander Berge and have considered other options, but their top target remains Manuel Ugarte. PSG will have to drop their price as United will not pay crazy money, otherwise they could also sell one player in that position, it could be Scott McTominay or Casemiro, we will see, but they will likely need a sale in order to finance the deal.

Still, United could also go for a cheaper midfielder, so Berge could be one to watch after contacts with his agent, while Sofyan Amrabat remains a player on their list even after they initially decided not to sign him permanently from Fiorentina after last season’s loan came to an end. Amrabat remains appreciated by Ten Hag, so there are some Plan B options behind Ugarte, but let’s wait and see what happens with PSG on that one.

Two new signings close for Chelsea, but “impossible” for this Blues star to stay

Samu Omorodion is in London and ready to sign his seven-year deal with Chelsea, while Pedro Neto is also close to completing the formalities of his move as the Blues plan to unveil him in front of their fans at Stamford Bridge today.

Still, we also know that there are a few Chelsea players now out of the project – Romelu Lukaku, who has a three-year deal in place with Napoli, but also Kepa Arrizabalaga who is still dreaming of Real Madrid.

As well as that, Armando Broja is no longer training with the first-team, and it’s the same with Trevoh Chalobah. Both players are on the market, with Chalobah’s asking price at around £30m. It’s also important to say that David Datro Fofana is another player who could leave Chelsea on a permanent transfer, or on loan with an obligation.

Lukaku will not stay at Chelsea. Impossible. I keep saying it’s Napoli for Lukaku, regardless of the Osimhen story. Conte wants him, he wants to work with Conte, a three-year deal is ready and Napoli can accelerate soon. I don’t see any other option. Nothing is happening with Osimhen this week, there are no updates, but it’s not that strongly linked to Lukaku, and in any case the plan remains for the Nigerian striker to leave Napoli. Chelsea are still waiting, but for Osimhen we have to be patient because he is still not accepting a loan move, which is the only option at the moment for Chelsea, and also because Osimhen will not reduce his salary.

So, the conditions of the deal will have to change, or else other things could happen with the Osimhen story in the final few weeks of this summer’s transfer market.

There has been speculation about other potential Chelsea exits as well, with Carney Chukwuemeka linked with Barcelona. Still, my understanding is that there is nothing concrete so far. Chelsea have not received any bid for Chukwuemeka and the situation is currently quiet. Then in the next days we will see… but at the moment there has been no offer made to Chelsea from Barca.

Chelsea have also not received proposals from Juventus for Raheem Sterling so far, and Sterling has received no contact from Italy yet, despite rumours. What I’m told is that Juventus are working on the Nico Gonzalez deal with Fiorentina as their priority for the new winger.

Three Liverpool transfer updates

Liverpool are still working to convince Martin Zubimendi to join the club and are waiting for his final decision. Just a reminder that other clubs such as Arsenal have also been interested in the Real Sociedad midfielder in recent times but were unable to persuade him to move, though there were no negotiations from the Gunners for him this summer.

Elsewhere with Liverpool, Fabio Carvalho is closing in on completing his move to Brentford. It’s a permanent deal worth £20m plus add-ons. However, there is no news at all on Virgil van Dijk, despite some stories at various points this summer.

It’s currently very quiet as Liverpool are counting on Van Dijk and there are no significant updates so far. In my opinion, he should stay and continue as he’s a key player for Liverpool and new manager Arne Slot will need him and the quality and experience he brings.

In other news…

Jadon Sancho – There’s still no major update on Jadon Sancho’s future, but he remains one of the cases of this market. PSG have been making contact with Sancho’s agents, but there’s no bid yet, and he’s back in the Man United squad so let’s see what they will decide to do.

Marc Guehi – Newcastle are still there, yes. It’s not over yet. They want to try again but Crystal Palace insist on £65m fee. There are currently no other clubs involved, but Newcastle have not completed the deal yet so it’s one to follow in the next days.

Vladimir Coufal – There has been talk of West Ham sales, and it is the case that Coufal could leave and also some players upfront, but for now I can guarantee that focus remains on completing signings. The Wan-Bissaka deal is being sealed, then West Ham will discuss outgoings in the final three weeks, with nothing imminent yet.

Crystal Palace are lining up a bid to sign midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea this summer, according to reports.

Chukwuemeka is a product of the Aston Villa youth system and made 16 senior appearances for the club between May 2021 and July 2022.

The midfielder then signed for Chelsea, where he’s played 27 times across all competitions during the past two seasons, scoring twice but never truly establishing himself as a first-team regular.

Still only 20 years old, Chukwuemeka is a player with considerable talent and has 25 caps to his name across various youth levels for England, who he helped win the 2022 U19 Euros — being named in the Team of the Tournament along the way.

In fact, with Chelsea looking to thin their squad after another busy summer of spending, Spanish giants Barcelona have been heavily linked with his signature — although Fabrizio Romano has cooled speculation slightly.

“There has been speculation about other potential Chelsea exits as well, with Carney Chukwuemeka linked with Barcelona,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“Still, my understanding is that there is nothing concrete so far. Chelsea have not received any bid for Chukwuemeka and the situation is currently quiet. Then in the next days, we will see… but at the moment there has been no offer made to Chelsea from Barca.”

Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on May 19, 2024 in London, England.

Crystal Palace lining up Chukwuemeka bid

According to The Sun (via The Chelsea Chronicle), Crystal Palace are also lining up a bid for Chukwuemeka.

The report states that the Eagles are ‘willing to spend big’ on the youngster, who is keen to leave Stamford Bridge in search of first-team football, with new manager Enzo Maresca seemingly preferring other options.

There has been no offer from Barcelona for Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka so far this summer, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

The talented 20-year-old looks a fine prospect but has so far struggled to fully establish himself at Stamford Bridge, largely because of fitness concerns, while there is already plenty of competition for a place in this Blues squad.

Chukwuemeka has been linked as a possible target for Barca, but Romano has discussed these rumours with CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his exclusive Daily Briefing column, and has played down the story.

Things could change, of course, but for now it seems there’s nothing particularly concrete to the Chukwuemeka to Barcelona rumours, so Chelsea fans will probably be reassured by this news as it gives the Englishman another chance to try to make more of an impact for the club this season.

Chukwuemeka transfer links with Barcelona played down by Romano

“There has been speculation about other potential Chelsea exits as well, with Carney Chukwuemeka linked with Barcelona,” Romano said.

“Still, my understanding is that there is nothing concrete so far. Chelsea have not received any bid for Chukwuemeka and the situation is currently quiet. Then in the next days we will see… but at the moment there has been no offer made to Chelsea from Barca.”

Chelsea do have an overly inflated squad, though, so it may be that this is something which will need addressing soon.

A number of CFC first-team players will most likely leave soon, with Romano mentioning Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja as likely candidates for the exit door, though he has not yet suggested that Chukwuemeka is particularly likely to leave.

Barcelona could do well, however, to snap up this big prospect and give him a chance if Chelsea are ultimately not willing to do that in the months ahead.

Chelsea are preparing to hold new talks over the potential transfer of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the coming week, while they also have an eye on Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi.

Sources with a close understanding of Chelsea’s plans have informed CaughtOffside that new contacts over Osimhen could take place soon, with Romelu Lukaku and Cesare Casadei likely to be on offer to the Serie A giants as part of any potential deal.

Osimhen has been a world class performer in his time in Serie A, and it would be exciting to see him coming in to lead the line for a club like Chelsea, who are building something promising at Stamford Bridge but who are still just lacking that one clinical goal-scorer, as well as a more experienced figure to lead this group of young players.

CaughtOffside understands that Chelsea still hope to make some progress on Osimhen soon, while Adeyemi is also emerging as an increasingly concrete target after his eye-catching form for Dortmund last season.

Victor Osimhen to Chelsea?

Adeyemi would most likely join Chelsea if Raheem Sterling leaves, and that is not certain yet, as the England international is understood to be happy and settled in west London.

Osimhen transfer could transform Chelsea, while there’s other positive news too…

Chelsea fans will no doubt hope the Osimhen deal comes to fruition, but there’s also some other exciting news as the Blues are now discussing a new contract for Conor Gallagher, who has just a year left on his current deal.

The England international will be free to negotiate with CFC now that Euro 2024 is over, but it had previously looked doubtful that he could stay at the club amid interest from elsewhere.

On top of that, Chelsea should be able to make some money from selling goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer, with Saudi Pro League clubs understood to be interested in the Spanish shot-stopper.

Chelsea are not keen to let Carney Chukwuemeka leave the club on loan in this summer’s transfer window despite links with AC Milan, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

The talented 20-year-old has long been regarded as an exciting young player with a big future in the game, and it seems Chelsea plan to keep him this summer, though Romano has also pointed out that he has a release clause.

How to buy tickets for England vs Spain

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he’s not aware of anything happening with Milan at the moment, despite speculation, with the journalist stating that Chelsea don’t want to loan the player out, meaning the situation is currently quiet.

Chelsea fans will probably be pleased to hear that, as Chukwuemeka could be a player worth being patient with, even if he hasn’t quite made his breakthrough as a regular starter for CFC yet.

Chukwuemeka transfer update from Fabrizio Romano

“Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has also been linked as a loan target for Milan, but I’m not aware of this story either. Chelsea don’t want to loan him out, so the situation is quiet and in any case he has a £40m release clause in his contract,” Romano said.

Chukwuemeka was also considered a huge talent during his Aston Villa days, so Chelsea fans will have been excited when he first joined, so perhaps if he has a bit more luck with injuries, he can finally make more of an impact in the team in the season ahead.

New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will surely find room for Chukwuemeka as he looks the ideal coach to help the west London giants with this long-term project built around elite young players like this.

Milan, meanwhile, seem to be focusing on another midfield signing as they close in on Youssouf Fofana, according to Romano.

AC Milan are reportedly targeting Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of next season.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Aston Villa in 2022, but having started in just four Premier League has failed to become a first-team regular.

Consequently, the young midfielder has found himself facing an uncertain future. Seemingly unlikely to break into Enzo Maresca’s plans, the Eisenstadt-born playmaker is attracting interest from at least one big-name European club.

According to a recent report from Fichajes, Chelsea’s number 17 is a top target for Serie A giants AC Milan.

Carney Chukwuemeka in action for Chelsea.

The Rossoneri are believed to view Chukwuemeka as the ideal player to solve their creative problems but reaching an agreement with Chelsea could prove difficult due to the Blues’ reluctance to sanction a loan, therefore, a permanent sale may be the only way the Italians can land their man — but he won’t come cheaply.

Although valued at a modest £15 million (TM), Chelsea will almost certainly demand a fee much higher.

Chukwuemeka has four years left on his contract.

AC Milan are ready to start transfer negotiations over the potential signing of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, who has a £40million release clause.

Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Chukwuemeka is primarily a loan target for Milan, but they would be prepared to negotiate a buy option for around €20-25m.

For now, Chukwuemeka is understood to be favouring staying at Chelsea, though it remains to be seen if he’ll get much playing time at Stamford Bridge in the season ahead, with Milan hopeful that they can convince him to make the move to the San Siro instead.

Chukwuemeka has been a little unlucky with injuries during his time at Chelsea so far, so it may be that the 20-year-old would do well to be patient and try again to challenge for a place in the 2024/25 campaign.

Carney Chukwuemeka in action for Chelsea

Still, with so much competition in this big CFC squad, it might also be worth looking at how some former Blues players have revived their careers since leaving the west London club for Milan.

Chukwuemeka transfer: Could he shine alongside former Chelsea rejects?

If Chukwuemeka were to move to Milan, he’d be lining up with other former Chelsea players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic.

None of those players really established themselves as key players at Chelsea, but have done much better during their time in Italy, so perhaps there’s a lesson to be learned there for Chukwuemeka, who is at that stage in his career where he needs to play regularly and have the trust of his manager.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops, and if Milan can afford a dal as well, as Chelsea may well push to keep the England Under-20 international unless his £40m release clause is triggered.

Bayern still pushing for Xavi Simons, plus replacement for Man Utd target Matthijs de Ligt

There is a pact between Xavi Simons and Paris Saint-Germain, as the club are aware of his intention to leave, and this is for the player to decide where he will play on loan next season. Simons will have a big say over where he will play next season.

When PSG re-signed Simons from PSV last summer, they had to concede something to the player for him to give the green light. This means Simons will have a big say together with PSG over which club he will play for next season, and two clubs are really pushing for him – Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

Bayern director Max Eberl is calling every single day to try to convince Simons. He was the man who brought Simons to Leipzig last summer, and now he’s at Bayern and wants to do the same. He is pushing a lot on player and club side to have Simons at Bayern, but Leipzig are doing the same, even though Eberl left the club. The idea of Leipzig remains the same – to do something important this summer.

So it’s a work in progress, with Bayern and Leipzig pushing, with the race still open as Simons has been very clear – he doesn’t want any distraction during the Euros, and he will decide his future after the tournament.

Staying with Bayern, they are also pushing to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, and they are very optimistic. The German centre-back could replace Matthijs de Ligt, as he has given the green light to Manchester United. At the moment, De Ligt is only negotiating with Man United, there are no other clubs involved at the moment because his full focus is on a potential move to Old Trafford.

Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United?

De Ligt’s agent Rafaela Pimenta is working on this deal, she is negotiating with Manchester United, and I can guarantee that the contract is not going to be a problem. Man United know De Ligt is on a big salary at Bayern, but also that he’s keen on the move and won’t create an issue there, so personal terms are being negotiated and are advancing.

United will try to be creative in negotiations with Bayern, who want around €50m for De Ligt. United could try offering something more like €35-40m with add-ons to try a different structure of the deal, let’s see if it’s going to be successful. Personally, I think it would be a very good signing. De Ligt is experienced but still young, and he needs a new project where he has 100% trust of everyone at the club. Hasan Salihamidzic signed him for Bayern but then things changed and De Ligt was no longer trusted as a key player; so being reunited with Erik ten Hag could be the best solution for him.

Remember – another name on United’s list, and the only player they have bid for so far, is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. They’ve had a £35m plus add-ons bid rejected, but for sure their appreciation remains, and it depends on Everton because they still want £65-70m for the player. That’s too expensive for United, but if the price changes, they are ready to attack the situation.

Even with De Ligt potentially joining, it’s also a possibility for United to go for one more centre-back. It depends on the budget and opportunities but it’s a possibility. In terms of the future of players like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and many others, it depends on proposals, if they receive good bids. But in general, one more centre-back is a possibility – Branthwaite remains on the list but Man United have no plans to pay £70m, so the only way is if Everton’s price drops.

Arsenal and Chelsea face paying €45-50m for Riccardo Calafiori transfer

Arsenal’s interest in Riccardo Calafiori is there, and negotiations could be something to mention in the next days. Arsenal and Chelsea are the two clubs interested in Calafiori, though we’re waiting for a bid and for formal steps. Still, the interest is there, because both clubs are looking for a similar player – left-footed, and someone who can play either left-back or centre-back.

Arsenal already had Jakub Kiwior playing this kind of role last season, but Calafiori is a different kind of player, both in terms of his overall quality and how he plays in that position. So, Calafiori is on Arsenal’s list, though they also have other names, and it’s the same for Chelsea – both clubs are very interested, so we’ll provide an update if or when they make proposals.

For now, they’re still waiting to understand the player’s preference and also how much is needed for Bologna; the price tag is not clear yet, some sources suggest around €45-50m because his former club Basel will receive almost 50% on the future sale.

Meanwhile, more good news for Arsenal is that the contract extension for Mikel Arteta is getting closer. He has one year left on his contract, but it’s a work in progress and there is confidence to get it done as Arteta wants to stay at Arsenal, and they want to keep him. When Arteta was linked with the Barcelona job, the truth is he was never tempted – his mission is to continue at Arsenal with a new contract.

Carney Chukwuemeka has a £40m release clause at Chelsea

We’ve had many rumours about Chelsea’s talented young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and clubs being interested in the player. What I can say is that my information is there is a release clause in his contract worth £40m. This would be his asking price, and at the moment Chelsea are showing no intention to negotiate for any other price or a deal of any other formula.

We know the market is always changing, but for now Chelsea’s intention is clear – they won’t accept proposals, and they’ve already said ‘no’ to loan offers from some clubs in recent months. Chelsea want to continue with Chukwuemeka unless a club comes in with enough money to trigger the release clause.

Chukwuemeka is also happy at Chelsea, so even if a club triggered the release clause, they would have to convince the player, so let’s see what happens.

Latest on Juventus transfers as Adrien Rabiot speaks with other clubs

Adrien Rabiot is technically a free agent now after his contract with Juventus expired at the end of June. Juventus want to keep the player and their proposal remains on the table: around €7m net salary per season, but Juve won’t offer more.

It’s up to Rabiot now. It’s still early and he will decide after the Euros, but he has also had some contacts with other clubs. I can’t mention names at the moment because nothing is imminent, it’s just general contacts with several clubs around Europe to discuss possibilities. Let’s see how this will develop after the Euros.

In general, it’s looking like a busy summer for Juventus, who have already signed Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, and now it’s also ‘here we go’ for Khephren Thuram to join from Nice. They will also keep going as they sign Di Gregorio from Monza as their new goalkeeper, and will continue with one more midfielder, one winger, one defender and more.

Juventus have been smart with Thuram, closing the deal one year before expiring of his contract for €20m plus €5m add-ons. Despite rumours, there was nothing really close with Premier League clubs. No one really advanced in talks with Nice, there was just some scouting and that’s it.

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has a £40m release clause in his contract according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chukwuemeka arrived at Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 in a deal worth £20m, but his time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injuries.

The 20-year-old has only made 27 appearances in two seasons, and a knee injury limited him to just 12 appearances in all competitions last season.

Chukwuemeka has £40m release clause

Reports in Italy have linked the midfielder with a move to AC Milan, who are thought to be trying to negotiate a loan deal with an option to buy for the former Villa man.

Romano has exclusively revealed that Chukwuemeka has a release clause of £40m in his contract, and that Chelsea won’t allow him to leave on loan.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Carney Chukwuemeka’s contract includes £40m release clause.

“Chelsea insist on their position not to allow talented midfielder to leave on loan.

“Every approach for potential loan in the recent months has been rejected so far.”

Competition for places in midfield is fierce with Chukwuemeka competing for minutes with the likes of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher if he remains at the club, and new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

It’s unlikely AC Milan can afford that fee outright, and it would make sense that they are reportedly trying to negotiate a loan with an option or obligation to buy.

Despite his obvious talent Chukwuemeka needs to get on top of his fitness issues, and he will have an opportunity to impress new boss Enzo Maresca on the club’s pre-season tour of America later this month.

If Chelsea were to lose Chukwuemeka this summer they would be in line to double their money on the midfielder.

The Blues have been busy in the window already and have signed Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian who will join in 2025, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu and Dewsbury-Hall as they aim to get back into the Champions League next season.

Chelsea have no intention of letting Carney Chukwuemeka leave on loan this summer according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues signed Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa in 2022 in a deal worth around £20m, but his time at Chelsea has been plagued by injury.

The 20-year-old was limited to just 12 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Chukwuemeka won’t be leaving on loan

With Chelsea spoilt for choice in midfield and closing in on the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester, reports emerged from Italy suggesting that AC Milan were negotiating with the Blues over a loan deal with an option to buy.

However, Romano has taken to X.com to confirm that the midfielder won’t be leaving on loan this summer and Chelsea are very happy with the player.

He said:

“Chelsea current position on Carney Chukwuemeka: no intention to let him leave on loan. Chelsea remain very happy with Carney and the only way for potential exit is on a permanent transfer, in case of good proposal.”

Chukwuemeka, who is a hugely talented player had a really good pre-season and started the last campaign well scoring his first goal for the club against West Ham before picking up a knee injury which essentially ruined his season.

Where the former Villa midfielder’s minutes are going to come from remains to be seen given the array of options in midfield, and more than anything Chukwuemeka needs to show he can stay fit as he’s only made 27 appearances across two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher is expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with the England international set to decide his future after the Euros, whilst youngster Cesare Casadei could be involved in Chelsea’s move for Dewsbury-Hall.

A decision has yet to be taken on Andrey Santos, who could yet return for another loan spell at Strasbourg, whilst Lesley Ugochukwu is likely to depart on loan.

Chukwuemeka will have a chance to impress new manager Enzo Maresca when Chelsea jet off for their pre-season tour of America at the end of July.
