‘Here we go’ x3 for Manchester United, plus update on midfielder search

Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham is a ‘here we go’ and it’s a crucial story because, as I reported previously, Manchester United were waiting for Wan-Bissaka to leave in order to be able to bring in a new right-back and also a new centre-back.

Now it’s happening, with Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham in a permanent transfer, and it’s an important sale as United could have lost him on a free when his contract would have expired next summer. Inter were also interested in the 26-year-old, though it would have been in a year’s time as a free agent, not in a swap deal this summer. Still, Wan-Bissaka decided to accept the offer from West Ham for a five-year contract, and he’ll have his medical tests with the Hammers this morning.

So, everything is done for Wan-Bissaka to move from Man United to West Ham for £15m – this is the value of the deal, and West Ham are truly on fire at the moment with a big summer that has seen them appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new manager whilst also completing deals like Wan-Bissaka, and also Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman, Guido Rodriguez, Crysencio Summerville and others.

As I previously reported, United want to attack the market and now we can say that it’s ‘here we go’ for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to move to Old Trafford. The deal is done with Bayern, and we have to congratulate United because the deal has been completed as they wanted – the timing was longer than expected, but it was worth it for United.

It was not always easy negotiating with Bayern, who for months insisted on guaranteed money, not add-ons, but United always wanted to get the deals done with add-ons. Now we can say that De Ligt will be joining the Red Devils for €45m plus €5m in add-ons. Bayern sources say these add-ons will be quite easy to reach, but it’s still structured quite favourably for United, and for Mazraoui it’s also €15m plus €5m in add-ons.

Now both players will travel to join United and both are set to sign five-year deals. In the case of De Ligt, this agreement was actually reached with his agent Rafaela Pimenta back in June, so he’s been waiting and waiting for United and was never negotiating with any other club. Mazraoui has also been waiting patiently since July, with United at times considering other right-back options like Vanderson and Denzel Dumfries. Still, Mazraoui looks a good option as he knows Erik ten Hag well from their time at Ajax, and he can fill in at left-back as well as on the right-hand side.

So, this is the double deal between Bayern and United, and now Bayern are expected to sign one more centre-back. Jonathan Tah’s agent is still working on the deal for him to move to the Allianz Arena so let’s wait for developments there, but he’s expected to be the new centre-back for the Bavarian giants.

Matthijs De Ligt is on his way to Manchester United

United also remain busy in the search for a new midfielder – they spoke with the agents of Sander Berge and have considered other options, but their top target remains Manuel Ugarte. PSG will have to drop their price as United will not pay crazy money, otherwise they could also sell one player in that position, it could be Scott McTominay or Casemiro, we will see, but they will likely need a sale in order to finance the deal.

Still, United could also go for a cheaper midfielder, so Berge could be one to watch after contacts with his agent, while Sofyan Amrabat remains a player on their list even after they initially decided not to sign him permanently from Fiorentina after last season’s loan came to an end. Amrabat remains appreciated by Ten Hag, so there are some Plan B options behind Ugarte, but let’s wait and see what happens with PSG on that one.

Two new signings close for Chelsea, but “impossible” for this Blues star to stay

Samu Omorodion is in London and ready to sign his seven-year deal with Chelsea, while Pedro Neto is also close to completing the formalities of his move as the Blues plan to unveil him in front of their fans at Stamford Bridge today.

Still, we also know that there are a few Chelsea players now out of the project – Romelu Lukaku, who has a three-year deal in place with Napoli, but also Kepa Arrizabalaga who is still dreaming of Real Madrid.

As well as that, Armando Broja is no longer training with the first-team, and it’s the same with Trevoh Chalobah. Both players are on the market, with Chalobah’s asking price at around £30m. It’s also important to say that David Datro Fofana is another player who could leave Chelsea on a permanent transfer, or on loan with an obligation.

Lukaku will not stay at Chelsea. Impossible. I keep saying it’s Napoli for Lukaku, regardless of the Osimhen story. Conte wants him, he wants to work with Conte, a three-year deal is ready and Napoli can accelerate soon. I don’t see any other option. Nothing is happening with Osimhen this week, there are no updates, but it’s not that strongly linked to Lukaku, and in any case the plan remains for the Nigerian striker to leave Napoli. Chelsea are still waiting, but for Osimhen we have to be patient because he is still not accepting a loan move, which is the only option at the moment for Chelsea, and also because Osimhen will not reduce his salary.

So, the conditions of the deal will have to change, or else other things could happen with the Osimhen story in the final few weeks of this summer’s transfer market.

There has been speculation about other potential Chelsea exits as well, with Carney Chukwuemeka linked with Barcelona. Still, my understanding is that there is nothing concrete so far. Chelsea have not received any bid for Chukwuemeka and the situation is currently quiet. Then in the next days we will see… but at the moment there has been no offer made to Chelsea from Barca.

Chelsea have also not received proposals from Juventus for Raheem Sterling so far, and Sterling has received no contact from Italy yet, despite rumours. What I’m told is that Juventus are working on the Nico Gonzalez deal with Fiorentina as their priority for the new winger.

Three Liverpool transfer updates

Liverpool are still working to convince Martin Zubimendi to join the club and are waiting for his final decision. Just a reminder that other clubs such as Arsenal have also been interested in the Real Sociedad midfielder in recent times but were unable to persuade him to move, though there were no negotiations from the Gunners for him this summer.

Elsewhere with Liverpool, Fabio Carvalho is closing in on completing his move to Brentford. It’s a permanent deal worth £20m plus add-ons. However, there is no news at all on Virgil van Dijk, despite some stories at various points this summer.

It’s currently very quiet as Liverpool are counting on Van Dijk and there are no significant updates so far. In my opinion, he should stay and continue as he’s a key player for Liverpool and new manager Arne Slot will need him and the quality and experience he brings.

In other news…

Jadon Sancho – There’s still no major update on Jadon Sancho’s future, but he remains one of the cases of this market. PSG have been making contact with Sancho’s agents, but there’s no bid yet, and he’s back in the Man United squad so let’s see what they will decide to do.

Marc Guehi – Newcastle are still there, yes. It’s not over yet. They want to try again but Crystal Palace insist on £65m fee. There are currently no other clubs involved, but Newcastle have not completed the deal yet so it’s one to follow in the next days.

Vladimir Coufal – There has been talk of West Ham sales, and it is the case that Coufal could leave and also some players upfront, but for now I can guarantee that focus remains on completing signings. The Wan-Bissaka deal is being sealed, then West Ham will discuss outgoings in the final three weeks, with nothing imminent yet.

Brentford have agreed a deal with Liverpool to sign Fabio Carvalho according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It’s been a quiet summer at Anfield for new manager Arne Alot with the Reds yet to make any signings, although they are working on a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

However, it appears Slot will have one less player to work with as Carvalho is set to leave the club despite impressing on the pre-season tour of America.

Carvalho set to join Brentford

Carvalho arrived at Liverpool from Fulham for £5m in 2022 and had loan spells at both RB Leipzig and Hull City last season.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals for the Tigers last season as they missed out on the play offs, but is now set for a new challenge in London.

Carvalho had attracted interest from the likes of newly promoted Southampton, who had a bid rejected and Leicester but Romano has reported he’s set to join Brentford.

He took to X.com and said:

“Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, here we go! Liverpool sell Carvalho on a permanent deal.

“Understand fee will be £20m fixed plus add-ons as part of the package. Carvalho has accepted as @abolapt reports; he’s set to undergo medical tests at Brentford soon.”

It’s been reported that Liverpool will receive a fixed fee of £20m with a further £7.5m in add ons and the Anfield outfit will also have a 17.5% sell on clause, with the fee likely to be put towards their pursuit of Spain international Zubimendi.

Fulham are also in line for a cash windfall having secured a 20% sell on clause when they sold the attacking midfielder to Liverpool.

Carvalho made just 21 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three goals for the club and he will make  a much needed difference in the final third for a Brentford squad which finished 16th last season.

West Ham will only move for Trippier if Wan-Bissaka deal breaks down

Talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka continue for West Ham and he remains their priority for the right-back position, although it is a complicated deal to get over the line.

Despite the rumours, I’m not aware of talks for Arnau Martinez, and Kieran Trippier will only be an option if the Wan Bissaka deal falls through.

There’s no imminent move for Vladimir Coufal either from what I heard.

Chalobah will take his time and choose the best option

On Trevoh Chalobah’s situation, Crystal Palace are interested but it’s the same with clubs from abroad.

Chalobah will take his time to decide what will be the best opportunity for him.

What I’m told too is that Crystal Palace also have Lacroix on their shortlist, a player that’s really appreciated by Glasner.

So, a decision will be made once Marc Guehi’s future is clarified as talks with Newcastle are still ongoing, not done yet.

De Gea has a verbal agreement with Fiorentina

David de Gea is back, guys.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper, finally back after more than almost 13/14 months with no activity on the pitch, is gonna play in Serie A.

Let’s wait for the signature because we know that with agents it’s always kind of dangerous on the market, but the verbal agreement is in place.

David said yes to Fiorentina. One year contract plus one year option, €2m net salary plus €1m in add-ons.

Good luck to David, after a long time out of the game for him.

Arsenal continue working on Nketiah and Merino deals

I also wanted to mention what’s going on at Arsenal, because we know that they are busy with the situation of Eddie Nketiah after selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham.

It was kind of a tense situation with Marseille because they had an agreement with the player. Nketiah wants to go to Marseille, he’s open to joining and attracted by the project.

But the negotiations were really tense in the recent days because Marseille had a new bid rejected and so they started exploring other options.

What they are doing now is to renegotiate again with Arsenal for Eddie Nketiah.

What I’m hearing is that they presented a new proposal in the last 24 hours, but now they want to close the deal only at their conditions – because they already spent other money in other positions.

Remember that Arsenal are also working to close the deal for Mikel Merino.

He hasn’t been called up for Real Sociedad’s next game because they say that he’s not 100 percent fit, but we know the transfer is behind this story because Mikel Merino has an agreement with Arsenal.

The contract is already agreed. The player said yes. He knows that Mikel Arteta wants him. This is the reality.

Arsenal have been closing in on the deal since last week, but they need to agree on the payment structure, payment terms, so a work in progress.

Barca pushing for Nico but Athletic are relaxed

Lots of questions still regarding Nico Williams, and as I wrote on Substack yesterday guys, no changes…

Barça keep calling Nico’s agent, but at the moment Athletic Club remain completely confident and optimistic to keep him at the club.

They are sure that Nico will end up staying. Barça have a dream and they are trying to make it a reality, but Athletic are currently relaxed.

Still chances for Ivan Toney to find a new club

I think there’s still a chance for a move to happen this summer for Ivan Toney.

There could be movements in the next days and weeks, but there’s nothing imminent so far.

We have to see about which clubs have a concrete interest, because about 10 different clubs have been rumoured to be interested in him this summer.

I don’t want to put out names without any concrete updates but, for sure, it’s still an open situation.

Richarlison’s focus won’t change Tottenham’s plans for Solanke

There are no changes to Tottenham’s plans on signing Dominic Solanke, despite Richarlison wanting to stay.

Solanke remains the priority target.

Richarlison is fully focused on Spurs and Tottenham were already aware of this so his situation doesn’t change the plan to bring in more players.

It’s never easy to negotiate with Bournemouth but Spurs are trying.

Chris Smalling could be on the move this summer

No concrete talks are taking place for Chris Smalling now but it’s yet another open case.

Roma are looking for a new centre-back and Smalling could leave in the case of a good proposal for both Roma and the player.

Jadon Sancho’s situation is still wide open

I wanted to finish by mentioning Jadon Sancho. It’s important to say that his situation too remains open.

He is 100 percent part of the Man United team, but in case of a formal proposal in the next three weeks, there could still be movement for Jadon Sancho.

Man United could be open to doing business and the player could also be open to the move, so it all depends on the proposals.

Now, everything is okay, but PSG and others have been making contact with Sancho’s agents.

Still no bid but the situation is one to watch until the end of the window.

They’ve already bought Joshua Zirkzee this summer, but it appears that Man United could still be ready to add a £50m-rated international ace to their strike force before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

Focus seems to be on defensive reinforcements at present, given that Erik ten Hag is set to be without Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof for the Community Shield game against Man City, and potentially beyond.

Man United’s striker chase signals real intent

Moves for Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt have been in abeyance for some while now, and as each day passes, the need to sign the pair becomes more and more acute. It isn’t entirely clear at this point what the hold up is.

Though defence remains a priority, if the club can bring in another front man, it looks likely that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his board will authorise the deal.

Football Insider suggest that the Red Devils will make a bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney, and Fabrizio Romano, talking to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing, hasn’t ruled out such a move.

Man United could bid for Ivan Toney before the closure of the transfer window

“I think there’s still a chance for a move to happen this summer for Ivan Toney,” he said.

It seems fairly clear that, as we enter the final few weeks of the window, that the race for certain players, including Ivan Toney, is going to hot up.

Brentford have had to drop their price significantly, and if anything that makes him a more attractive proposition to buying clubs.

He will have to get back on the goal trail quickly, however, with WhoScored noting he managed just four since his comeback in January, none of which were scored after February 17.

Arsenal have been advised to seal the transfer of Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer as he’d add 25 goals a season to their team, according to Paul Scholes.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes is clearly a big fan of Toney, suggesting that the England international would surely score that number of goals for basically any Premier League club.

Arsenal didn’t exactly struggle in front of goal last season as the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard shared the scoring burden out quite evenly, but there’s surely a case to be made for Mikel Arteta bringing in more of an out-and-out goal-scorer to help his side get over the line in the title race.

Arsenal came so close to ending their twenty-year wait to win the league last season, with Manchester City only pipping them on the final day, and one has to wonder if they could have gone all the way if they’d had a more clinical finisher in that difficult period they had before the winter break.

Ivan Toney to Arsenal?

Toney transfer: Is he just what Arsenal need?

Toney has a proven scoring record at this level, and Scholes told The Overlap that he can see the 28-year-old giving the Gunners that edge they need.

“It’s hard to say they’ve not got enough up there because of the amount of goals they scored,” Scholes said.

“It was ridiculous, but I do think signing a centre forward would help. Signing an out and out number nine who will guarantee you 25 goals, obviously that would help.

“Are those players out there? Ivan Toney has been mentioned a lot, I think he scores 25 goals in that Arsenal team. I think he scores 25 goals in a lot of teams.”

Arsenal might prefer to go for a younger player, but there’s a bit of a shortage on the market right now, so fans would surely welcome Toney as a Plan B option at the very least.

Spurs are intent on signing a new striker this summer.

The Lilywhites have yet to replace Harry Kane after he joined Bayern Munich this time last year.

Ange Postecoglou spent last season juggling his front three which included Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Saudi-linked Richarlison. However, keen to revert Son back to his preferred left-wing position, the no-nonsense Aussie has prioritised signing a new number nine.

The London-based giants have been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke following an impressive individual campaign that saw him score 19 goals from 37 Premier League starts.

Spurs shift focus to Brentford’s Ivan Toney

The Cherries’ £65 million asking price has prevented negotiations from progressing though, forcing chairman Daniel Levy to sound out alternative targets, and according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Spurs are now showing a ‘concrete interest’ in Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Spurs are interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford.
Spurs are interested in signing Ivan Toney.

The 28-year-old, who is entering his contract’s final 12 months, is expected to leave the Bees this summer.

Having spent much of last season sidelined due to suspension following a guilty verdict for betting-related offences, Toney, who was part of the England squad which reached this summer’s EUROs final, is looking to reignite his career as he eyes a big move.

And while most of the league’s top clubs have been linked at some point during the summer window, it now seems Spurs are frontrunners for the Englishman’s signature.

During his four years at the Community Stadium, Toney, who is represented by leading agency CAA Stellar, has scored 72 goals and registered 23 assists in 141 games in all competitions.

Three Premier League clubs are showing interest in Liverpool talent Ben Doak as the Reds are keen to loan the winger out for the 2024/25 campaign.

Last season was a disaster for the 18-year-old as the youngster suffered a meniscus injury which caused him to miss the majority of the campaign. This came off the back of a very positive pre-season for Doak and many Liverpool fans felt he was ready to make a big impact on the term.

Doak would only play in five matches for Liverpool last season as a result of his setback and the Merseyside club feel that a loan move would suit the player’s development ahead of the 2024/25 campaign getting underway.

According to Football Insider, Brentford, Leicester City and Southampton have all registered an interest in the Liverpool star, however, none of the Premier League clubs have yet to make a move.

Experience in England’s top flight would go a long way in helping the Scottish star cement a place in Liverpool’s starting 11 and the 18-year-old will have an eye on the right-wing role at Anfield given the uncertain future of Mohamed Salah.

Three Premier League clubs are showing interest in Liverpool talent Ben Doak
Three Premier League clubs are showing interest in Liverpool talent Ben Doak

This season is crucial to Ben Doak’s Liverpool future

Salah’s contract at Liverpool expires in 2025, which means that this season could be the Egyptian’s last at Anfield, which frees up the right-wing role for the 2025/26 campaign. Should Doak impress at a Premier League club this term, that would put the youngster in prime position to take over from the superstar.

Liverpool fans have already been impressed with what they have seen from Doak so far and being only 18, there is a lot more room for development, which will excite the Anfield faithful.

The Merseyside club need to make sure they send the winger to a club where he will get regular minutes as a successful loan spell could save the Reds a lot of money next summer should they need to replace Salah.

Man United could still make a late-window approach for Brentford striker Ivan Toney with the England star’s future yet to be decided ahead of the new Premier League season.

There was a lot of talk about the striker’s future heading into the summer transfer window as the 28-year-old has just one year left on his Brentford contract and the Bees will not want to lose their star man for free next year.

The London club are seeking £50m to part ways with Toney over the next month but so far, no club in the Premier League has been willing to match that price tag.

The talk around the Englishman’s future has gone very quiet, however, Football Insider are now reporting that Man United could make a late move for the 28-year-old as Erik ten Hag wants another number nine at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund suffered an injury during the Manchester club’s pre-season tour of the United States, which will rule the Danish star out of action until mid-September.

New forward signing Joshua Zirkzee is also unavailable due to a lack of match fitness and that means that the Red Devils head into Saturday’s FA Community Shield clash against Man City without a recognised striker.

Despite this, a move for Toney makes no sense having signed the Dutch forward, and only time will tell if Man United make a move for the Brentford star.

Ivan Toney to Man United makes no sense

Before the summer, a move for Toney would have been a great signing for Man United as the England star is a lethal goal scorer and is proven in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has netted 72 times and assisted a further 23 across 141 games for Brentford in the Premier League and Championship in recent seasons, and it is not hard to see why the Manchester club would want the Englishman.

The Red Devils splashed out £36.5m to sign Zirkzee from Bologna this summer, therefore, it makes no sense to spend more money on a new striker when other areas of the pitch need addressing.

Man United should save their money and try to get a deal for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte over the line as Ten Hag cannot go another season with Casemiro in his midfield following his disastrous campaign last time around.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has said he would be “over the moon” if striker Ivan Toney remains at the club this summer.

Toney, who has one year left on his current deal with the Bees has been linked with a move away with the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United said to have expressed an interest although nothing has materialised.

The 28-year-old was part of the England squad which went all the way to the final of Euro 2024, and he made an impact for the Three Lions as he set up the winner for Harry Kane in the last 16 against Slovakia and also scored in the penalty shootout victory over Switzerland.

Frank would be delighted if Toney stayed

Toney has spoken about his aspirations to join a top club, but so far no offers have come in for the England international who is said to valued in excess of £50m.

The striker returned from an eight month ban in January but could only manage four goals in 17 appearances across the second half of the season.

It would seemingly be in Brentford’s best interest to sell Toney this summer given they run the risk of him walking away on a free at the end of next season.

Toney has one year remaining on his Brentford deal and could leave on a free next summer.

Frank has been speaking about the striker and said he would be “over the moon” if the Englishman remains at the club.

“What I’m focusing on is that Ivan is a Brentford player, I’m very happy he’s here and if Ivan is here at the start of the season, I’ll be over the moon,” Frank told Sky Sports News.

“I’ve said before we’re a selling club but what I know is Ivan is a player for us.”

Despite his struggles last season Toney is a proven quantity in the Premier League with only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland scoring more than his 20 league goals in the 2022/2023 campaign.

The longer the window goes on the more chance there is for a club to get a great value for money deal for Toney, but strangely no suitors have come forward and made serious moves, although that could change as the both the season and the end of the window draw nearer.

West Ham United are among the clubs pushing to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez before the summer transfer window closes, according to reports.

Gomez is a long-serving player for Liverpool having joined from Charlton Athletic as a youngster in 2015.

Since then, the centre-back — who can also play on either flank as a full-back — has made 224 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, lifting Premier League and Champions League titles among a host of other honours.

Gomez has also managed to pick up 15 caps for England and was named in the Three Lions’ squad that reached the Euro 2024 final this summer, though he failed to make an appearance.

Premier League clubs prepare for battle over Gomez

Despite all the positives, a mixture of injuries and serious competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate during his time with the Reds have meant Gomez has never truly held down his place in the starting XI.

And now, it looks like the 27-year-old might be on the verge of an Anfield exit.

HITC report that a host of Premier League clubs are pushing to sign the highly-rated defender before the end of the summer transfer window.

West Ham, Brentford and Crystal Palace appear to be at the forefront of the battle to sign Gomez, while Aston Villa are also understood to be keen on the defender ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Newcastle United are admirers of Gomez as well, but at present seem more likely to pursue Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who caught the eye with England at the Euros.
