Monchi targets two dream signings for Aston Villa before the window closes

Aston Villa are targeting two more signings in the transfer window according to reports as they prepare for Champions League football next season.

It’s been a busy summer at Villa Park with seven new faces coming through the door, whilst two key players from last season have departed.

The likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen have joined the club, whilst Douglas Luiz left for Juventus as part of a swap deal and club record signing Moussa Diaby was sold to Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Villa target two more signings

Unai Emery is building an exciting squad at Villa packed with plenty of young talent and experience and despite the money they have spent it appears the club might not be done in the window.

The Birmingham Mail have reported that Villa are targeting two more signings in Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix and Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

Villa are looking at Felix as a potential replacement for Diaby with the report adding that although no progress has been made on a deal Atletico are aware of Villa’s interest.

Felix’s future at Atletico Madrid is uncertain.

Felix has struggled to make progress following his big money move to Atletico from Benfica and has spent time on loan at Chelsea in the 2022/2023 season, whilst he spent the last campaign on loan at Barcelona.

Emery will back himself to get the best out of the Portugal international and at just 24 there’s still plenty of time for Felix to reach his huge potential, although a deal could likely be very expensive.

Geertruida has emerged as a target to replace Diego Carlos who looks set to leave with Fulham expressing strong interest in the defender.

Manchester United have drawn up a three man shortlist which includes a former Chelsea star, as they look to sign a new left back according to reports.

After a slow start to the window United have completed deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, whilst they are also in talks over moves for Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen a squad which finished eighth in the Premier League and more additions will be required if they are to get back into the Champions League next season.

United draw up three man shortlist for problem position

Defensive reinforcements have certainly been United’s main priority and they could still sign another centre back despite already landing Yoro.

The Old Trafford outfit are also looking to strengthen at both left and right back with Tyrell Malacia no closer to returning from a long term injury, whilst Aaron Wan-Bissaka only has a year left on his contract and is expected to leave.

Luke Shaw is United’s first choice left back, but there are also doubts surrounding his long term fitness, despite playing for the first time since February at Euro 2024.

Alonso is a surprise name under consideration as United look for a new left back.

The Mirror have reported that United have drawn up a list of three targets as they look to solve their problems at left back.

The report adds the names under consideration are David Hancko of Feyenoord, former Chelsea ace Marcos Alonso and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell.

Alonso is certainly a surprise inclusion , but he could be a smart signing given he’s a free agent and has Premier League experience, whilst there’s the chance of a cut price deal for Mitchell given he’s only got one year left on his contract.

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham look set to go head to head as they attempt to bring Feyenoord starlet Jean-Paul Boetius to their respective clubs, according to the Daily Star.

The 20-year-old is reportedly being watched by scouts from both clubs, having become a regular part of the Dutch side’s first team since his debut back in 2012.

Boetius’s contract expires at the end of next season, and with a move seeming almost inevitable, Feyenoord may decide to cash in on the winger this summer.

Despite the interest from the two top-four chasing clubs, Boetius already has links in place in England, which may scupper Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino’s plans to sign the youngster.

His manager when he made his debut for Feyenoord was current Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal handed him his first international cap last year, before selecting him for his preliminary Netherlands World Cup squad – although Boetius was cut before the tournament.

However, United are also reportedly more interested in bringing fellow countryman Memphis Depay to Old Trafford.

UEFA Charge Feyenoord For Fan Racism After Inflatable Banana Thrown At Gervinho

UEFA have acted after another dark day for European football.

Feyenoord have been charged following the racist behaviour of fans during their Europa League clash against Roma, reports the Guardian.

During a bad-tempered second leg clash between the two clubs – which was suspended twice – an inflatable banana was thrown onto the pitch, allegedly in the direction of Roma striker Gervinho.

Roma’s Adem Ljajic has also been charged for his celebration after scoring the opening goal in his side’s 2-1 victory, which seemed to provoke supporters.

But, it is the banana incident that has led to the largest condemnation.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Feyenoord’s coach Fred Rutten played down the motivation behind the banana being thrown onto the pitch.

“There is such a fuss made about it. I don’t see it that way. We have different nationalities in our team. It’s nonsense. We make too much of it,” Rutten said.

The Dutch club have already been in trouble with the continent’s governing body this season, for similar events, and will find out their fate following this latest event on March 19th.

The decision comes within weeks of UEFA announcing that they are unable to punish Chelsea, after some of their fans were filmed chanting about being racist and forcefully preventing a black man getting on a metro train in Paris, because the incident did not happen at the game.

There was controversy in the Europa League last night after an inflatable banana was hurled in the direction of Roma star Gervinho by Feyenoord fans.

However, well many were quick to condemn the incident there was those online who tried to defend it, claiming it was actually a club tradition to have inflatable bananas in the stands and it was accidentally blown onto the pitch.

Feyenoord Fans Arrested After Riots Following 1-1 Draw With AS Roma

Shocking scenes as Feyenoord fans riot in Rome city centre.

Feyenoord fans rioted in Rome yesterday following their side’s 1-1 draw in the Europa League with AS Roma, leading to 22 arrests by the Italian police, BBC Sport reports.

The Dutch side were visiting the Italian capital for the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash, but the meeting has now been marred by this violence and unpleasant scenes.

It has been a bad week for football fans’ reputations, with Chelsea supporters racially abusing a man in the Paris metro station after a game against Paris Saint-Germain.

22 arrests have been made and eight fans charged in the riots in Rome, with government official Livio Ricciardelli calling for Feyenoord to pay for the damage done.
