West Ham will only move for Trippier if Wan-Bissaka deal breaks down

Talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka continue for West Ham and he remains their priority for the right-back position, although it is a complicated deal to get over the line.

Despite the rumours, I’m not aware of talks for Arnau Martinez, and Kieran Trippier will only be an option if the Wan Bissaka deal falls through.

There’s no imminent move for Vladimir Coufal either from what I heard.

Chalobah will take his time and choose the best option

On Trevoh Chalobah’s situation, Crystal Palace are interested but it’s the same with clubs from abroad.

Chalobah will take his time to decide what will be the best opportunity for him.

What I’m told too is that Crystal Palace also have Lacroix on their shortlist, a player that’s really appreciated by Glasner.

So, a decision will be made once Marc Guehi’s future is clarified as talks with Newcastle are still ongoing, not done yet.

De Gea has a verbal agreement with Fiorentina

David de Gea is back, guys.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper, finally back after more than almost 13/14 months with no activity on the pitch, is gonna play in Serie A.

Let’s wait for the signature because we know that with agents it’s always kind of dangerous on the market, but the verbal agreement is in place.

David said yes to Fiorentina. One year contract plus one year option, €2m net salary plus €1m in add-ons.

Good luck to David, after a long time out of the game for him.

Arsenal continue working on Nketiah and Merino deals

I also wanted to mention what’s going on at Arsenal, because we know that they are busy with the situation of Eddie Nketiah after selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham.

It was kind of a tense situation with Marseille because they had an agreement with the player. Nketiah wants to go to Marseille, he’s open to joining and attracted by the project.

But the negotiations were really tense in the recent days because Marseille had a new bid rejected and so they started exploring other options.

What they are doing now is to renegotiate again with Arsenal for Eddie Nketiah.

What I’m hearing is that they presented a new proposal in the last 24 hours, but now they want to close the deal only at their conditions – because they already spent other money in other positions.

Remember that Arsenal are also working to close the deal for Mikel Merino.

He hasn’t been called up for Real Sociedad’s next game because they say that he’s not 100 percent fit, but we know the transfer is behind this story because Mikel Merino has an agreement with Arsenal.

The contract is already agreed. The player said yes. He knows that Mikel Arteta wants him. This is the reality.

Arsenal have been closing in on the deal since last week, but they need to agree on the payment structure, payment terms, so a work in progress.

Barca pushing for Nico but Athletic are relaxed

Lots of questions still regarding Nico Williams, and as I wrote on Substack yesterday guys, no changes…

Barça keep calling Nico’s agent, but at the moment Athletic Club remain completely confident and optimistic to keep him at the club.

They are sure that Nico will end up staying. Barça have a dream and they are trying to make it a reality, but Athletic are currently relaxed.

Still chances for Ivan Toney to find a new club

I think there’s still a chance for a move to happen this summer for Ivan Toney.

There could be movements in the next days and weeks, but there’s nothing imminent so far.

We have to see about which clubs have a concrete interest, because about 10 different clubs have been rumoured to be interested in him this summer.

I don’t want to put out names without any concrete updates but, for sure, it’s still an open situation.

Richarlison’s focus won’t change Tottenham’s plans for Solanke

There are no changes to Tottenham’s plans on signing Dominic Solanke, despite Richarlison wanting to stay.

Solanke remains the priority target.

Richarlison is fully focused on Spurs and Tottenham were already aware of this so his situation doesn’t change the plan to bring in more players.

It’s never easy to negotiate with Bournemouth but Spurs are trying.

Chris Smalling could be on the move this summer

No concrete talks are taking place for Chris Smalling now but it’s yet another open case.

Roma are looking for a new centre-back and Smalling could leave in the case of a good proposal for both Roma and the player.

Jadon Sancho’s situation is still wide open

I wanted to finish by mentioning Jadon Sancho. It’s important to say that his situation too remains open.

He is 100 percent part of the Man United team, but in case of a formal proposal in the next three weeks, there could still be movement for Jadon Sancho.

Man United could be open to doing business and the player could also be open to the move, so it all depends on the proposals.

Now, everything is okay, but PSG and others have been making contact with Sancho’s agents.

Still no bid but the situation is one to watch until the end of the window.

David De Gea is on the verge of signing for Italian side Fiorentina.

This has been confirmed by multiple reports, including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the Serie A heavyweights are closing in on the deal, which is awaiting the official confirmation from the Spaniard.

He is expected to sign a one-year contract with an option to extend for another season and will earn €3m per season.

Romano shared the following update on X:

“Fiorentina are closing in on David de Gea deal, just waiting for Spanish GK confirmation to book medical tests. One year contract plus option for further season around €3m net salary per season. Almost there.”

Manchester United’s treatment of David De Gea

David De Gea has been without a club since leaving Manchester United last summer.

Despite his significant impact at Old Trafford, where he made over 500 appearances and won multiple trophies, United chose not to renew his contract, opting instead for André Onana as their new first-choice goalkeeper.

Manchester United’s treatment of David De Gea has been criticised by many

The decision marked a bittersweet end to De Gea’s nearly 12-year tenure with the club, leaving both the player and many supporters disappointed.

The move to Fiorentina represents a new chapter for De Gea, offering him the opportunity to continue his storied career in Serie A.

For a professional football player in decent form to suddenly drop out of the game entirely for over a year sounds like a tall tail indeed, but that’s exactly the fate which has befallen former Man United custodian, David de Gea.

The Spaniard was pushed aside by United manager, Erik ten Hag, who clearly wanted to bring in his own man in Andre Onana.

Depending on your point of view, Onana has either been a significant upgrade on de Gea or a bit of a liability.

Ex-Man United ace de Gea could be making a return shortly

In any event, 14 months after he last kicked a ball professionally, de Gea is still without a club.

That might be about to change, however, after page seven of Wednesday’s Corriere dello Sport (detailed by Football Italia) noted that the keeper had set out his demands to Fiorentina, who had expressed an interest in his services.

De Gea, 33, has asked for a one-year deal and an option for a second and wants €2m net as well as another €1m in add-ons. That figure is to increase to €3m in the second year with another €1m in add-ons.

David De Gea is a potential target for Fiorentina.
David De Gea is a potential target for Fiorentina.

It isn’t clear at this stage if La Viola will accept those terms at this point, though they’ll need to make a quick decision if they want de Gea to begin the season between the posts for them.

From the player’s point of view, if he doesn’t sign up for someone soon, he could well be spending another few months twiddling his thumbs.

It would appear that his demands have been a major reason behind the inability to secure a move to this point.

If he can come to an acceptable arrangement with Fiorentina, however, his hiatus from the game could soon be over.

David De Gea has not featured from a club since he left Manchester United as a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Taking a season’s career break, the Spanish shot-stopper, who made 545 appearances for the Red Devils, remains on the lookout for a new club.

And according to a recent report from journalist Alfredo Pedulla, although the 33-year-old has a ‘couple of proposals’, it is Serie A side Fiorentina who are showing the most interest.

Expected to continue talks to sign the 2012-13 Premier League winner next week, Raffaele Palladino’s side are hoping to complete what would be an ambitious deal in time for the new 2024-25 Serie A season, which begins on Saturday 17 August.

Fiorentina working on deal to sign David De Gea

Fiorentina’s currently have four first-team goalkeepers registered — Tommaso Vannucchi, Tommaso Martinelli, Oliver Christensen and number one Pietro Terracciano. De Gea would certainly represent an upgrade though. The Spaniard has a wealth of experience, both at domestic and international levels.

David De Gea is a potential target for Fiorentina.

Capped 45 times for Spain, De Gea, who was born in Madrid in 1990, has lifted seven major trophies, including the 2010 and 2017 Europa League. His last contract at Manchester United saw him earn a reported £375,000-per week — a figure he will have to compromise on though due to Fiorentina’s weaker financial position.

Pedulla’s latest report claims Fiorentina have more talks with De Gea’s representatives scheduled for Monday with the goalkeeper ‘greatly appreciating the possibility of playing in Serie A’.

One to watch.

Fiorentina are ‘evaluating’ a move for former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, according to Matteo Moretto.

The veteran Spanish goalkeeper spent the entire 2023/24 season as a free agent following the expiry of his Manchester United contract.

However, still only 33 years old, De Gea — who won Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League titles during his stay at Old Trafford — hasn’t called time on his career and with 45 caps for Spain and over 600 appearances under his belt for Man Utd and Atletico Madrid combined, he surely remains an attractive prospect for clubs needing an experienced goalkeeper.

Even his market value doesn’t seem to have taken too much of a hit, still standing at €5m according to Transfermarkt.

Rumours have come and gone in recent months regarding De Gea, with a move to Genoa most recently falling through according to reports.

However, according to Moretto, fellow Serie A side Fiorentina are still considering the Atletico Madrid youth product as an option.

“There’s the David de Gea matter for the goalkeeper spot,” Moretto told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing. “He was offered to them, they are evaluating him as an option, but they have not taken a decision yet on whether to go to him.”

It’s proving to be a busy summer for the back-to-back UEFA Conference League runners-up — who finished eighth in Serie A last season — with Moise Kean, Andrea Colpani and Marin Pongracic already arriving, while Nikola Milenkovic, Gaetano Castrovilli and Alfred Duncan are among a host of players to leave the club.

Things are certainly changing around Man United, with the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era well underway as can be seen via their summer signings thus far.

It’s the first transfer window where the INEOS regime have been able to flex their financial muscle, and the signings that they’ve made to this point, bode well for the 2024/25 campaign.

One player that was offloaded well before Sir Jim and his board got their feet under the table at Old Trafford was Spanish keeper, David de Gea.

Romano’s definitive update on David de Gea

United manager, Erik ten Hag, appeared to withdraw any contract offer that had been on the table for the 33-year-old, and brought in his own man between the posts; Andre Onana, who ten Hag worked with at Ajax.

Though de Gea had his critics and he had made a few high-profile mistakes, the general feeling appeared to be that he was still a reliable keeper and a safe pair of hands in the main.

And yet, here we are, a year later and the player still doesn’t have a new club.

CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has detailed too that any rumours that the former Man United ace was about to sign for Serie A side, Genoa, were wide of the mark.

With only four weeks left of the current transfer window, there is a very real possibility that de Gea could go yet another summer and still not find himself a club.

It isn’t clear if the issue is financial or down to a prospective buying club not being high profile enough for him, but what is abundantly clear is that if de Gea doesn’t align himself with a new employer soon, his career at the highest level could soon be over.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is in talks to join Serie A outfit Genoa on a free transfer.

De Gea has been without a club since he left Old Trafford at the end of the 2022/2023 season after his contract expired, and hasn’t played football since United’s defeat to Manchester City in the 2023 FA Cup final.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as well as the MLS and Italy, and it appears it might not be long until he’s back playing football again.

De Gea in talks with Genoa

The Spaniard has dropped a number of cryptic messages on social media since he left United and has clearly been biding his time before he decides what his best option is.

The Athletic have reported that De Gea is in talks with Italian outfit Genoa over a possible move to Serie A, in what would be a surprise move.

Genoa are in the market for a new goalkeeper after Josep Martinez joined Italian champions Inter Milan, and some reports suggested Chelsea had offered Djordje Petrovic to the Italian side, but they deemed the 24-year-old too expensive.

David De Gea in action for Manchester United.
De Gea hasn’t played football since the 2023 FA Cup final.

De Gea, who joined United from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 spent 12 years at Old Trafford and made made 545 appearances for the Red Devils.

The former Atletico man surpassed Peter Schmeichel’s record for most clean sheets at the club, and set the record for the most appearances made by a goalkeeper for the Old Trafford outfit.

De Gea won five major trophies for United, including the Premier League, League Cup, Fa Cup and Europa League, and has been capped by Spain 45 times, although he’s not appeared for the newly crowned European Champions since 2020.

It will be interesting to see where De Gea ends up, and whilst it might take a little bit of time for him to get back up to speed, at 33 he still has plenty he can offer to any potential suitors and could be a smart pick up for a team.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was prepared to make a stunning return to the club last season.

Despite his lengthy and dedicated service to the Red Devils, the club chose not to extend his contract last summer.

Instead, United replaced him with Andre Onana, who subsequently had a challenging season, with several errors leading directly to goals.

De Gea willing to return to United despite rocky exit

De Gea’s departure from Manchester United after nearly 12 years and over 500 appearances, during which he won numerous trophies, was marked by disappointment and a perceived lack of respect in the manner of his exit.

The Spanish goalkeeper was reportedly upset with those he held responsible for his departure, particularly Erik ten Hag and former football director John Murtough.

Despite these feelings, De Gea was willing to return to Old Trafford in January to provide cover for Onana during his absence for the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, according to The Athletic, De Gea told close friends that he would happily return to United if both ten Hag and Murtough were no longer at the club.

De Gea close to joining new club

De Gea ended up not joining the club and rejected a chance to return to Nottingham Forest as well.

And while Murtough was replaced this summer, the club’s new minority owners INEOS have decided to retain Erik ten Hag.

Since his departure from United, De Gea has been without a club. However, recent activity on his social media suggests that he is close to joining a new team, marking the next chapter in his storied career.

Has David de Gea found a new club?

De Gea rarely posts on social media, with his only X post over the last month prior to Saturday paying tribute to Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara after he announced his retirement earlier in July.

But on Saturday, De Gea posted a sand timer emoji, sending fans of clubs around the world into a frenzy trying to predict where he’ll end up next.

De Gea — who won Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup titles with the Red Devils — has continued living in Manchester since becoming a free agent, during which time he’s been spotted training with local non-league side Altrincham and donning Man Utd training gear.

Since De Gea’s departure, Andre Onana has taken over as the Manchester United No.1, keeping 13 clean sheets in 51 appearances across all competitions and winning the FA Cup.

It’s been an entire year since former Spanish international and Man United custodian, David de Gea, has kicked a football in earnest.

Seemingly, any offers that came his way this time last year when it became clear that he was surplus to requirements at the Red Devils, were not acceptable to the now 33-year-old.

Unceremoniously dumped by Erik ten Hag, who wanted to install his own man in Andre Onana between the sticks at Man United, de Gea nevertheless appeared to take the snub with good grace.

David de Gea could finally be heading for Saudi Arabia

Though he would have been forgiven for letting rip on social media and in print at his treatment by the club after giving them a number of years of brilliant service, his silence at the time spoke volumes as to the man he is.

As the months went on, however, there was a very real possibility that the Spaniard might not be seen playing professional football again.

It’s believed that he has kept himself fit and active during the 12 months that he hasn’t been aligned with a club, and now journalist Rudy Galetti notes that he could be about to end his time in the footballing wilderness.

According to his message on X (formerly Twitter), Saudi Pro League side, Al Shabab, and another Saudi club appear to be are working hard to convince the keeper to sign for them.

If successful, it would see de Gea join a handful of his former colleagues and opponents who are now plying their trade in the Emirates.

Given that the new season will begin in August, it’s in the keeper’s best interests to get his future sorted quickly, rather than drag things out even longer than is necessary.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if any more European clubs try one last time to keep him on the continent.
