Liverpool are in pre-season action against Sevilla on Sunday afternoon at Anfield and the deadlock has been broken courtesy of sensational Diogo Jota goal. 

The Reds open their Premier League campaign against Ipswich Town on Saturday and the team that has started the match against La Liga side are likely to line up at Portman Road next week.

Jota is almost certain to start the clash up front as the Portuguese star has worked with Slot the most during pre-season and has played the most minutes out of the Reds’ major forward stars. The 27-year-old made his claim for the starting spot stronger on Sunday scoring a sensational goal at Anfield.

The Portugal international met a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross with a beautiful left-foot volley which got the fans in the stadium off of their feet.

The Merseyside club travelled to the United States over recent weeks and came away from America with three wins over Real Betis, Arsenal and Man United; while Slot also gained a better understanding of his squad.

Man United have reached an agreement with their captain Bruno Fernandes to extend his contract at the Manchester club until 2027. 

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2026 and the Portuguese star was keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford as his next contract will likely be the last big one he receives in his career.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fernandes has agreed a three-year deal with Man United, who have the option to extend it by a further year. This will see the Red Devils captain stay in Manchester until at least 2027 as the midfielder becomes one of the top earners at the Premier League giants.

The transfer journalist states that the deal will be signed before the summer transfer window shuts and this will come as great news for fans of the Manchester club.

Fernandes has been a major player for United since arriving at the club in 2020 and has gone on to feature in 233 games for the Red Devils, scoring 79 goals and assisting a further 66.

The Portugal international is a fan favourite at Old Trafford and this is more good news for supporters, following agreements with two new potential signings.

The news of Fernandes’ contract comes after it emerged on Saturday that Man United have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has returned to posting about Liverpool after deleting photos related to the Merseyside club following the Reds’ Premier League clash with Tottenham in May.

The Uruguayan star started on the bench as Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated the North London club 4-2 at Anfield, a game which saw Nunez squander a one-on-one opportunity.

The striker had missed several chances in the weeks prior and after the Spurs match, the Liverpool star let comments from fans get to him, leading to the former Benfica star deleting the majority of photos related to the Premier League club on his Instagram page.

This sparked transfer speculation ahead of the summer transfer window but with the new season getting underway next Saturday, Nunez has returned to posting about Liverpool and it confirms that the Uruguayan is staying at Anfield for another year.

The 25-year-old posted a picture of himself at Liverpool’s AXA training ground looking into the glass on a stairway. This could have a deeper meaning that the striker has reflected this summer and is ready to begin a new era at the Reds with Arne Slot at the helm. The Dutch coach will hope to get the best out of the forward as he can be lethal on his day.

Nunez has shown signs of being an incredible talent but his finishing has let him down massively since moving to Anfield.

The Uruguay international has produced 33 goals and 17 assists across 96 games for the Premier League giants, but fans of the Merseyside club know that those numbers could be much better with the number of chances created for the forward.

Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark is closing in on a permanent move to RB Salzburg as the two clubs are close to agreeing a deal for the midfielder. 

The original plan for the 19-year-old ahead of the 2024/25 campaign was to offer Clark a new deal at Liverpool before allowing the youngster to leave on loan to gain some experience, however, things seem to have changed.

According to DAVEOCKOP, RB Salzburg are closing in on a deal for Clark as former Liverpool coaches Pep Lijnders and Vitor Matos are extremely keen to work with the player again.

Last season was the midfielder’s biggest at Anfield as he was one of a group of youngsters who helped Jurgen Klopp through a tough period at the start of 2024.

The 19-year-old would come on in several Premier League games and was one of the young talents that helped beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

The upcoming campaign is a big one for Clark’s development and with the midfielder having a strong relationship with Lijnders, there is belief that under the former Reds coach, the player can reach his full potential.

That begs the question do Man United need to spend £50m on Ferguson? Other areas in Erik ten Hag’s squad need more urgent addressing and it is unlikely that the Irishman will leave Brighton this summer off the back of a poor campaign.

Liverpool target Maximilian Beier is close to completing a move to Borussia Dortmund as the German giants are close to concluding the deal with TSG Hoffenheim.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, negotiations between Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim for the transfer of Beier are in the final stages, with an agreement expected to be reached within the next 48 hours. 

BVB have been very keen to add the 21-year-old to their ranks ahead of the new Bundesliga season and the Germany international is now waiting for permission to travel to Dortmund for his medical before completing the move. 

Beier will sign a contract with Dortmund until 2029, which is a big coup for the German club given the level of interest in Beier.

The forward experienced a very impressive campaign in the Bundesliga last season scoring 16 goals and assisting a further three across 33 league games for Hoffenheim.

That caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund, but also the likes of Liverpool.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool monitored Beier for weeks and talks even occurred over recent days regarding the transfer of the German international. However, the 21-year-old already had his heart set on a move to Dortmund.

This shows that the Premier League club are looking at attacking options behind the scenes as Arne Slot may not be totally convinced by starting Darwin Nunez as his striker throughout the campaign.

Tottenham confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth on Saturday and the striker has already been welcomed to the club by some of his new teammates. 

The 26-year-old has joined Spurs as part of a £65m deal which will see the North London club pay the Cherries an initial £55m with £10m in add-ons for their goal scorer. Solanke has signed a six-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030 as Ange Postecoglou hopes the Englishman provides him with the goals he has been looking for.

Following the announcement of Solanke, Tottenham put out some behind-the-scenes footage and there was a lovely moment showing James Maddison welcoming the striker to Spurs.

Man United are closing in on the signings of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with his former players. 

The Dutch coach worked with the pair at Ajax and with Bayern open to selling the two players, the Man United boss has been keen all summer to bring them to Old Trafford to strengthen his backline.

The Premier League club have agreed a fee for De Ligt worth an initial €45m plus €5m in add-ons, while a guaranteed €15m plus €5m in add-ons has been settled on for Mazraoui.

Both defenders have signed five-year deals at Man United plus an option of an extra season and are expected to undergo their medical tests on Monday, while also completing all the formal steps.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Monday is going to be “Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui day” at Old Trafford and it could be when both players are officially announced as new members of Ten Hag’s squad.

Is Erik ten Hag recreating another Ajax at Man United?

It is hard to gauge whether De Ligt and Mazraoui will be a success at Man United but it is never a good sign when a club as big as Bayern Munich are willing to let the players go pretty easily.

Ten Hag seems eager to work with players he trusts and is looking to add the duo to the former Ajax stars already at Old Trafford. Andre Onana joined the Manchester club last summer, while Lisandro Martinez and Antony followed their Dutch coach to Manchester in 2022.
