Virgil van Dijk has admitted Liverpool haven’t offered him a new contract and thinks the club could do with making some summer signings.

The Dutchman started the 4-1 win over Seville at Anfield on Sunday, but there are still question marks surrounding his future given he’s only got one year left on his contract.

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in a deal worth £75m from Southampton in 2018 and has won the Premier League and Champions League during his time at Anfield.

Van Dijk yet to be offered new contract

Liverpool run the risk of losing the 33-year-old on a free next summer if they don’t agree a deal with the Dutch international.

Van Dijk, who was part of the Netherlands side that lost to England in the semi finals of Euro 2024 has provided an update on his future and revealed he’s no closer to signing a new deal.

“There is no changes at the moment,” he told The Independent.

Van Dijk has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield.

The former Southampton man isn’t the only key player in the last year of his contract at Anfield with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the same position, leaving Liverpool with some difficult decisions to make.

The Reds are the only club in the Premier League yet to sign anyone, although they are in talks with Real Sociedad over a deal for Martin Zubimendi and Van Dijk believes they need to make some additions to the squad.

“Obviously I think we should make some signings based on how long the season will go but I think they are working behind the scenes and I am fully convinced and trust the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad in order to compete in every competition that we are in,”  he added.

“That is the main thing I am focusing on, having the trust and we will see what happens. I think they are working very hard behind the scenes, we will see how that pans out.”

Liverpool kick off the new season away at newly promoted Ipswich on August 17th in what will be Arne Slot’s first competitive game in charge.

Brentford have agreed a deal with Liverpool to sign Fabio Carvalho according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It’s been a quiet summer at Anfield for new manager Arne Alot with the Reds yet to make any signings, although they are working on a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

However, it appears Slot will have one less player to work with as Carvalho is set to leave the club despite impressing on the pre-season tour of America.

Carvalho set to join Brentford

Carvalho arrived at Liverpool from Fulham for £5m in 2022 and had loan spells at both RB Leipzig and Hull City last season.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals for the Tigers last season as they missed out on the play offs, but is now set for a new challenge in London.

Carvalho had attracted interest from the likes of newly promoted Southampton, who had a bid rejected and Leicester but Romano has reported he’s set to join Brentford.

He took to X.com and said:

“Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, here we go! Liverpool sell Carvalho on a permanent deal.

“Understand fee will be £20m fixed plus add-ons as part of the package. Carvalho has accepted as @abolapt reports; he’s set to undergo medical tests at Brentford soon.”

It’s been reported that Liverpool will receive a fixed fee of £20m with a further £7.5m in add ons and the Anfield outfit will also have a 17.5% sell on clause, with the fee likely to be put towards their pursuit of Spain international Zubimendi.

Fulham are also in line for a cash windfall having secured a 20% sell on clause when they sold the attacking midfielder to Liverpool.

Carvalho made just 21 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three goals for the club and he will make  a much needed difference in the final third for a Brentford squad which finished 16th last season.

Southampton boss Russell Martin has spoken on their pursuit of Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho and said he’s a player the Saints like a lot.

Following promotion back to the Premier League last season Southampton have been busy in the market making a number of additions to their squad to give them the best chance of survival.

Among their new signings are striker Ben Brereton Diaz, and midfielders Flynn Downes and Adam Lallana.

Southampton want to sign Carvalho

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Sunday that Liverpool had rejected an offer from Southampton worth up to £15m for Carvalho and were unwilling to sanction another loan deal for the 21-year-old.

The report adds Carvalho wants to be a regular starter and any permanent offers will need to be higher than what the Saints offered.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Martin addressed Southampton’s pursuit of Carvalho and said he was a player the club like a lot.

Southampton have had a bid rejected for Carvalho.

“He is a player we have liked for a while. We spoke in January but couldn’t get it done. He is a player I admire and like,” he said.

It’s also thought Southampton are keeping an eye on Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley if they are unable to land the Portuguese.

Carvalho, who joined the Reds from Fulham in 2022 has impressed for Liverpool on their pre-season tour of America and opened the scoring in the 3-0 over Manchester United on Saturday.

He’s provided 29 goal contributions in 56 Championship appearances for both Fulham and Hull, but has only made 21 appearances for the Anfield outfit, in which he’s managed just three goals.

The attacking midfielder has so far failed to nail down a regular starting spot at Anfield and has had loan spells at RB Leipzig and Hull City where he impressed with nine goals and two assists from 20 appearances as Hull narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the last campaign.

Curtis Jones insists he loves Jurgen Klopp after he was accused of disrespecting the German with comments about new boss Arne Slot.

It’s been a quiet window for Liverpool and the club have yet to make any signings with start of the season just over two weeks away.

Slot, who faces the huge task of filling Klopp’s shoes is currently in America on Liverpool’s pre-season tour, as preparations for the new campaign heat up.

Jones insists he loves Klopp

Jones had said that he’s the happiest he’d been under Slot and that he preferred the new style of play, which led to some accusing him of being disrespectful to Klopp.

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday Jones cleared things up and insisted he had nothing but love for his former boss.

“The principles are always the same, we want to work hard, press, dominate teams, that’s what I think came across a little bit wrong,” Jones said.

Jones insists he loves Klopp after being accused of disrespecting the German.

“I’d like to say now on this, I’ve seen things that it seemed like I was disrespectful in a way.

“But Jurgen knows I’d never be that kid. He knows how much I love him, that I love all of his staff.

“It was just me saying that how I’m going to play now is a little bit of a change.

The 23-year-old could be set for a prominent role under Slot next season, and since making his debut for the club in 2019 he’s won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Last season Jones made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

Liverpool have held discussions with the representatives of Wolves star Pedro Neto, whilst they are also weighing up a move for his team-mate Rayan Ait-Nouri according to reports.

It’s been all change at Anfield with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds have been quiet in the market and are yet to make any signings.

The club will also be looking to clarify the future of some of their key players with some uncertainties surrounding the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool plot double raid on Wolves

Liverpool are in the market for reinforcements and the wide areas are believed to be of interest to the club.

There had been questions over the future of Luis Diaz earlier in the summer, but it now appears the Colombian is set to stay.

Liverpool have been linked with moves for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but nothing has materialised with the new season drawing closer.

Liverpool are interested in both Neto and Ait-Nouri.

However, GIVEMSPORT have reported that the Anfield outfit have held talks with Wolves and the representatives of Pedro Neto to discuss the possibility of a move.

Neto still has three years left on his current deal meaning Wolves are in a position where they can command a big fee, and the report adds that Liverpool’s interest isn’t going away at they look for competition for Diaz.

The Portugal international is thought to be valued at around £60m, and wants to play for a club with European football if he leaves.

Neto isn’t the only Wolves player the Reds are looking at and GIVEMSPORT add that Ait-Nouri is thought to also be on their radar.

Some reports had suggested the Algerian has a £38m release clause in his contract, but Wolves haven’t confirmed if that’s the case, and a number of Premier League clubs are thought to be interested in the 23-year-old.

The Reds are currently in America on their pre-season tour, where they have matches against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Crystal Palace are facing a tough decision over Marc Guehi’s future with multiple Premier League clubs interested in the England international according to reports.

Guehi was one of England’s best performers at Euro 2024 as the Three Lions came up agonisingly short against Spain in the final.

The 24-year-old’s performances for England are likely to have increased his value, with Palace believed to want in the region of £65m for the centre back.

Palace face Guehi headache

Any potential sale would see Palace make a huge profit given they signed Guehi for £18m from Chelsea in 2021.

The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly all shown interest in the past.

Palace will be desperate to keep hold of Guehi having seen Michael Olise leave for Bayern Munich, and Journalist Dean Jones has said that Chelsea and Liverpool are the ones to watch in the race.

Marc Guehi in action for England.
Guehi is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

“Arsenal, Man United and Spurs have all had an eye on Guehi since last year and his performances for England are going to cause Crystal Palace bosses a bit of a headache because his status has been on the rise this summer and it would be no surprise to see other clubs also having a look,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“But, in turn, his value is going up too, so who is going to pay upwards of £60million for him in the coming weeks? They have every reason to expect £65 million for him in the current market.

“Chelsea and Liverpool are two clubs to pay some attention to as the player now refocuses and considers what he wants next in his career. His ambition will be heightened.”

Whilst Guehi would likely be a welcome addition at Stamford Bridge there simply isn’t space for him in the current squad unless someone departs, with Trevoh Chalobah the most likely candidate to do so.

A move to Liverpool would make sense given Virgil van Dijk’s future is unclear and they are also in the market for a replacement for Joel Matip.

Liverpool have shown an interest in RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan, but no offers have gone in yet according to reports in Germany.

It’s been all change at Anfield with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp and it’s been a quiet transfer window to date with no incomings.

Liverpool are thought to be in the market for a centre back following the departure of Joel Matip, whilst they will also be keen to address the future of several key players including Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool interested in Simakan

The Reds fell away in the title race towards the end of last season and will be looking to add more quality and depth to their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze has reported the club are interested in Leipzig’s Simakan who could be available for between €40m-€45m.

He took to X.com and said:

“We hear from England and Spain that @LFC and @Atleti have expressed interest in Mo Simakan (24/).
“No concrete negotiations, no offers, but there is interest. Possible sale price: €40m-€45m.
“Simakan can imagine a transfer but is also not unhappy in Leipzig. He is focused on the new season. @RBLeipzig is planning with the Frenchman @SkySportDE.”
Mohamed Simakan in action for RB Leipzig.
Liverpool are believed to be interested in Simakan.
Simakan made 42 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions last season and scored three goals and provided four assists.
The 24-year-old is a centre back who can also play at right back, and he’s under contract with the Bundesliga outfit until 2027, having joined from French side Strasbourg back in 2021.
The Reds have also been linked with Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, who had a brilliant Euros with England, but Palace are believed to want around £65m for the England international, which Liverpool might not be prepared to pay.
The Reds are currently in pre-season training and will face Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Betis in America, before a game against Seville at Anfield a week before the season starts.

Inside Spain is a weekly instalment brought to you by Football España, providing an insight into all of the major stories coming out of the rich and intense climes of La Liga and beyond.

Spain have by most people’s estimates been the best side at Euro 2024, and their victory over France was met with the euphoria of genuine moment that will go down in history – Lamine Yamal’s golazo.

In Iberia, Spain are no doubt regarded as favourites, and while there is optimism, and a belief that La Roja are the better team, England’s knack for finding a way in extremis, and the underperforming quality in their ranks has brought with it a certain cautiousness ahead of Sunday. The good atmosphere around the Spain squad has been one of the most visible reasons to believe in their side though.

That atmosphere has been felt throughout Spain, but a little less in Bilbao. Although their players are a key reason for their success, the constant speculation surrounding Nico Williams, linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona, has rubbed Athletic Club up the wrong way. President Jon Uriarte criticised Barcelona counterpart Joan Laporta for publicly declaring an interest – Williams reportedly has agreed personal terms with the Blaugrana.

Arsenal intend to compete with Barcelona for Mikel Merino by all accounts too, but there Mikel Arteta may have more reason for optimism. Chelsea are also interested in Williams still, even if they are looking at alternatives, but they have given up on Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, as per the latest in Spain.

Real Madrid can finally present Kylian Mbappe as their ultimate galactico signing on Tuesday at noon at the Santiago Bernabeu after France were knocked out – already there is a 4-6 week wait for ‘Mbappe 9’ shirts.

Their efforts are now focused on Leny Yoro, who they have agreed terms with. Manchester United are trying to persuade him to change his mind and head to Old Trafford though, and the fact that Los Blancos have identified an alternative to Yoro is perhaps a reason for a little optimism for Erik ten Hag.

Alvaro Morata’s future remains in the air with talk that he will U-turn on his decision to stay in Spain, and head to AC Milan. United’s Donny van de Beek has arrived in Girona to sign with the Champions League side. Finally, a warning to the England squad, just avoid the topic of Lamine Yamal in press conferences, Adrien Rabiot wasn’t even that critical of him, and it did not end well for him.

Former West Ham assistant Johnny Heitinga has revealed he’s in talks with Liverpool over becoming part of Arne Slot’s coaching set-up.

Heitinga is currently out of work having left the Hammers with David Moyes at the end of last season.

It’s all change at the London Stadium with the newly appointed Julen Lopetegui now in charge, and the Hammers have been getting to work in strengthening their squad.

Heitinga reveals he’s in talks with Liverpool

Heitinga, a former Everton defender was surprisingly named as one of Moyes’ assistants last September and it appears he might not be out of work for long.

The 40-year-old could be set for an immediate return after revealing he’s been talks with Liverpool over becoming part of Slot’s coaching staff.

Johnny Heitinga on the training pitch at West Ham.
Heitinga could be set to become part of Liverpool’s coaching staff.

The only thing I can say now is that I have been approached (by Liverpool) and that my agent Rob Jansen and I are in talks,” he told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

Heitinga joined the Hammers after leaving Ajax following a short spell in charge of the Dutch giants.

The former defender spent five years playing for Liverpool’s rivals Everton but that doesn’t appear to be putting him off a potential link up with fellow countryman Slot, who appears to still be finalising his coaching staff ahead of the new season.

Whilst there’s plenty of change at West Ham this summer, there’s arguably more at Anfield following the departure of Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool are somewhat heading into the unknown next season as they prepare for a new era under Slot.

Liverpool haven’t been active in the transfer market and are yet to make a signing, and maybe they are waiting until Slot has finalised his coaching staff before making an approach for any players, with the Reds needing to add to their squad having fallen away in the title race at the end of last season.

Harry Kane was non-committal when asked whether he would rather come up against Virgil Van Dijk or Matthijs de Ligt in Wednesday’s Euro 2024 semi final.

England lock horns with the Netherlands knowing they are just one win away from a second consecutive European Championships final.

The Three Lions put in an improved display against Switzerland, but will likely need to find another level if they are to get past the Dutch who have shown signs of improvement against both Romania and Turkey.

Kane admits Van Dijk and De Ligt are both tough opponents

Kane has started every game so far for Gareth Southgate’s side and has scored two goals in five matches, but his performances have come in for criticism.

The Bayern Munich ace doesn’t look like he’s fully fit and has been criticised for not getting involved in the game enough and dropping deep instead of staying up the pitch.

There’s no doubt the 30-year-old will start on Wednesday night, but it certainly feels like England need more from their record scorer, and the semi final would be the perfect place to start.

Kane is likely to come up against at least one if not two defenders that he knows very well in Van Dijk and Bayern team-mate De Ligt.

Harry Kane and Virgil Van Dijk in action against eachother.
Kane and Van Dijk have come up against each other a number of times over the years.

The former Tottenham man was asked in the pre-match press conference who he would rather come up against out of the pair, but he was non-committal with his answer.

“Matthjis has been a [Bayern Munich] team-mate of mine, a fantastic player,” he told reporters.

“I’m not sure if he’s going to start tomorrow or not but if he does we’ve had a lot of battles in training so I’m sure tomorrow will be no different.

“I’ve had a lot of battles with Virgil over the years, sometimes he’s won and sometimes I have.

“Whoever plays will be a tough opponent. I’ll always prepare in the same way to make them as uncomfortable as possible but they’ll do the same as me.

“I enjoy playing against the best in the world, that’s why you want to play these games. I’m looking forward to that challenge tomorrow.”

De Ligt has been an unused sub for the Dutch in all five games with Stefan de Vrij preferred over him, so it would appear unlikely he will play.

The 24-year-old is believed to be close to a move to Manchester United which would see him link up again with his former manager Erik ten Hag.
